  1. Mate, what on earth are you thinking?

  2. This was the best win of the season by any team by a long way. Off a 5 day break, 8 changes from 5 days ago against a team that rarely loses at home for 15+ years. They had 1 other fit player on their list to choose from, staggering.

  4. To all ... if you can get vaccinated, get vaccinated!! Don't leave it to others. Nothing will change if you don't. (Well, it may get worse.) P.S. Disclosure ... I've had AZ x 2.

  6. I have good news to report. Just 30 minutes ago we heard the whole thing about exposure at my GD’s school was wrong. A false alarm. Needless to say there are a lot of [censored] off parents. Some sat in testing queues for hours. But the problem has gone away I feel better than if we won the GF.

  8. I'm trying very hard sticking to the rules in this thread and not making political posts. But can I just say this post, which makes a lot of excellent and very valid points does not, in my view, show the other side of the story. These points are the story. And all relate to political failings of one sort or another. Which is not to under sell the incredible complexity of the issues. Mistakes are inevitable in a crisis such as this. And state governments, including in Victoria, have made their share of errors that have contributed to the situation we are in. As have individuals of course. But the fact remains that the federal government is responsible for both the root cause of the issues we face and the solutions to those issues - the quarantine and vaccination programs. One of the key failings relates to this point: 'Delta mutation: Its arrival and age group targets surprised everyone. It made early vaccination plans to do older folks first somewhat redundant. Younger folk needs have increased demand.' This is not the case. And the federal government should not get away with their messaging it is. The delta is a game changer narrative needs to be challenged All the talk of following the expert advice rings hollow. For one thing, epidemiologists warned at the start of the pandemic of the risk of mutating strains that are more contagious. It is how viruses work. We should have been prepared for the inevitability of a variant like delta. For example by making sure our quarantine system was robust (we had Howard Springs as perfect model to replicate) and making sure the vaccination program was fit for purpose to respond to such an inevitability Secondly, the delta variant first emerged in India in OCTOBER last year. The danger it represented was apparent by the end of last year and it peaked in May of this year. The horror it wrought was there for the whole world to see. So it arrival, impact, infectiousness and impact on younger people was anything but a surprise. Australia has a big Indian community. Australians were coming home from India. It was always coming here. We had advance warning of a tsunami coming towards us. And seemingly made no attempt to prepare for it. This is not an attempt at political point scoring. We live in a democracy and i fully respect that collectively we elected the current federal government to lead us. I support good public policy. I want my federal government to implement good policy. I want my federal government to succeed. And they are best placed to do so by reviewing any failings and addressing them. I don't see much evince that this is happening.

  10. Sorry, LF that simply is not true. Hindsight was not required, nor was a crystal ball Anyone with access to the internet knew what was coming well ahead of May. April/May was the PEAK of Delta in India. It has been been there since October 2020 and began to surge out of control at the beginning of March 2021. So its impact, and the risk it posed, was clear at a minimum five months ago. Five months. Why didn't they accelerate the quarantine roll out then? It took the current crisis in NSW for them to find some urgency. But lets say the federal government only became aware of the impending tsunami in May. It is now August. And it was only a few days ago that they advised a sharp, fast lock down is the best approach to manage delta. A full month after NSW failed to lock down immediately, when all available evidence suggested they simply had to. The lack of federal advice or pressure to lock down hard and fast gave NSW cover to delay their lockdown. And no one could now argue that decision was the wrong one. The horse has now bolted. And here we are.

  13. Looked at the replay frame-by-frame. Selwood took his eyes off the ball and chose to bump, collected Taylor in the head - should get 2-weeks.

  14. Great summary Binman. From what I saw of the game, also I thought the key was that Taylor didn't engauge physically so much with Hawkins and relied more on his ability to read the play and intercept. Has me thinking that would we perhaps be better playing Lever on Hawkins and May on Ratugolea or one of their other key forwards in a few weeks? Not that I thought May did badly on Hawkins last time around before he got taken out by his backhander.

  15. What's to say Petty can't do the job? Taylor is same as as Petty and both from the same draft. There is a lot of similarities between Taylor and Petty. Both good reading the play, and dropping off to intercept forward entries. Petty surprisingly strong one on one also.

  16. Don't get me wrong Hawkins is a really good player and has had just about his nest season this year. The best set shot for goal in the AFL. But I've always thought he is overrated. When he is getting beaten his body language is appalling. Throws up his hands if teamates kick poorly to him. And like many cats, whinges to the umpires. All on display last night. But my main knock on him is he is too one dimensional. He gets up the ground a bit more than he used to, but really still plays like an old school full forward. Yes he gets tbe occasional goal from an inside 50 ruck contest but in the main he needs a leading lane or a clean one on one contest to kick goals. The big issue is that if teams take these options away he not only doesn't kick goals, he offers bugger all else. The giants got back hard to block leading lanes but crucially did not allow the cats to transition quickly after intercepting half back. And they didn't allow them to chip it around and xontrol the temp until they could execute a set play where they switch and orchestrate a pass to a leading Hawkins. This was a function of their pressure. And the cats not applying enough pressure (which means they get fewer intercept marks in their back half). And for the same reason tbey didn't give Hawkins many one on one opportunities. And in particular the ones he always wants/needs/is looking for - a one on one wrestle, which he wins with his strength. And whe did have one, the pressure the giants were applying on the last kick inside 50 meant it wasn't kicked perfectly to his advantage. So he couldn't wrestle Taylor. When he did get a one in on one, Taylor read it brilliantly and reacted so much more quickly than Hawkins, who looked flat footed. He looks a gun Taylor. Clean hands, reads it well, reacts quickly and decisively and makes good decisions. I think petty has those traits to, and is also a gun.

  18. If anything was to sum up the BS of the MRO, this is it. One incident happening in the action of a fend off with ball in the hand given 2 weeks, the other a blatantly dangerous and dirty act given a weak as p!$$ fine. Micheal Christian needs to be replaced.

  19. I actually don’t think the penalty is big enough, particularly financially. The AFL industry spends millions every year on indigenous programs, and a highly publicised and well regarded indigenous round. Indigenous players have brought an extraordinary amount to our game, and the AFL acknowledges this and wants to protect their place in it. Monkhurst and Long was 26 years ago. There’s no excuse for not being aware of any of this. It might be the dumbest thing a player has done on field in 15 years. If I was a sponsor at the crows I’d be pulling my money.

  20. The Green/Dangerfield incident is almost identical to the Fritsch incident without the damage. Player going low for the ball, tackler coming in hard and low at same time. Both were reaction incidents. To me Green should get off as incident appears accidental and unavoidable. Selwood on the other hand exhibited a classic run past the ball, chose to bump a player bending down for the ball and hit him squarely on the side of head. This is the kind of premeditated incident that has caused numerous concussions and the AFL have punished severely to stop them happening. In this case he should rightfully be suspended. He did everything wrong expect hurt Taylor but as well included the bad “optics” that sunk Viney for 2 weeks. Selwood deserves the same. For the sake of the integrity of the rules Selwood should not get away with it because he didn’t cause serious damage.

  21. Dub Dee this post didn’t age well. Great win by the Giants and just confirm how over rated the Cats old list is. Has been amazing how many commentators got sucked into the Cats bandwagon. Was great to see Dees fly under the radar. So many critic make week to week snap judgements. Dees have the best win loss record against top 8 opposition yet somehow Cats have been at shorter odds. Inexplicable. Cats play a stodgy brand which will not hold up on the fast decks of September. Their demise is going to be sweet to watch. Dogs are our biggest danger.

  22. A simple and respectful no to OP. I don't get why people get so emotional and critical of peoples opinions - no need to get nasty. I get where you are coming from, he lacks too much common-sense, ethics and integrity, which would upset the mental balance of our team. if we could recruit him purely on the basis of his football talent, then I would actually take a look at it as I think he has a good understanding in how to play the CHF hit up role. Probably still in the top 5 in the comp. Set shot kicking is also pretty good.

  23. That’s a bit over the top don’t you think? He made a private, racist comment to a mate, that was overheard. We don’t even know what he actually said. He copped 6 games and a $20000.00 fine, not to mention public humiliation. Think he has copped his whack. You want to end his AFL career, seriously?

  27. I can’t see how this is anything but intentional . He lined him up from a distance with no desire for the footy whatsoever. The calculator needs the “ not a good look for footy” button that was applied to Viney!

  34. Amazing win. Just shows if you give 100% and attack the footy all game you are always a chance. massive choke from the Cats. They now need to win one of their last two games to guarantee top 4. More conceding for them would be going into finals in bad form plus 3 injuries

  35. My difficulty with political type posts is that they usually present just one side of the story. There are a variety of reasons why we are where we are: Low vaccination rates: lack of supply due to fed government stuff ups, EU withholding supply etc, lack of and miscommunication due to Europe's bad PR on AZ, ATAGI vacillating on advice, state CHO's not supporting ATAGI recommendations, language barriers etc lack of demand due to complacency, anxiety, cultural influences, antivaxers Irresponsible people. The current east coast wave started when an unvaccinated 60+ man worked in the most high risk job possible: transporting air crew from airport to accommodation. Not blaming him - it is his right not to get vaccinated. But he should not have been in that job. Like any work Health and Safety policies all stakeholders need to be protected. Its like if people don't wear a safety harness they don't work on skyscrapers. The man should have been given another role in a low risk area. Human error: People being released from quarantine while positive. Delta mutation: Its arrival and age group targets surprised everyone. It made early vaccination plans to do older folks first somewhat redundant. Younger folk needs have increased demand. I could go on but I hope people see the bigger picture.

  36. The biggest cultural problem the Crows have is Tex Walker and always has been. Ordinary when Lever left and ordinary when Lever returned there to play at AO. Ordinary during the aftermath of the ill-fated camp a few years ago. Ordinary when he gave Fritsch an absolute gobful before he took a set-shot this year. and very ordinary with these remarks. There are plenty of other examples over the years. He's just an ordinary individual whom i never liked or respected.

  37. Taylor owned Hawkins and is to the eye, 10kg+ lighter, that was a serious game by him. I also watched Hawkins do half a dozen dirty things to try and put him off. Was sitting CDG Paris waiting for my flight back to Sudan (would rather be in Melbourne believe me) and had nothing to do so watched the game. I was very impressed with how excited they were about the win as well.. Just sad we don't pound the cats next week, they will be very sore [censored] after tonight.

  38. Interesting stat. Geelong have only won 4 games against top 8 sides including the umpire robbery by 1 point against Brisbane and a lucky 5 points against Bulldogs. Their resume is well padded by beating easy beats in a dream draw and a dream home ground advantage. 4 out of 5 losses are against current top 8 sides.
