  1. I feel like I just watched Melbourne win, love seeing those Richmond sooks lose. Side note: Dew’s guts side on are impressive.

  2. Whilst I do agree with all of that and have loved watching Jackson's development. But people have underestimated how bloody hard Jordon has worked to get into the position he has. Was picked up in the draft in the 2nd round when many draft experts tipped him to be a rookie draft selection. He's then had to tailor away in the VFL for 2 years with disruption last year through injury. Was delisted then picked up as a rookie. Puts in a fantastic summer to the point where the coaching staff have no choice but to pick him. Prior to the bye he was top 3 in the AFL for tackles and is currently averaging 18 disposals per game playing in one of the best midfield in the comp. Not only that he's actually having huge impact on games with his toughness and hardness, but also his ability with his two way running. Obviously I am bit bias because I've known Jimmy since primary school days as he's best mates with my little brother, so bit of conflict of interest I try to avoid discussions around him on here. But even to my surprise his development has been absolutely through the roof. Just feel like Jordons consistency has been much more apparent then Jacksons. Jackson may well win the RS, but I love the Diamond in rough types like Jordon.

  3. It is a mistake imo. We had nobody to kick to for large parts of the Essendon game. Also, McDonald plays 5x better when another key forward in the side. Brown had earnt his spot.

  4. To be fair, if every draft nets us an Oliver and literally nothing but trash in every other round, you would take it and run. Oliver is actually a superstar. You only get those once in a blue moon.

  7. I though BB deserved to play selection committee have been getting it right all year so i'll back their judgment but i would think BB has to come in next week. We can't continue to tolerate a misfiring forward set-up and leave a 60-goal per season player in the 2's.

  8. I watched the replay again last night and while it was hilarious, the victim mentality was so far beyond a joke it was embarrassing. Their players falling into it and starting to focus on the umpires rather than the game made it even better, as did the fella having a crack at the umps as they walked off the ground with the female cop having to stand in between. Petracca's wave to the sooky fan after he kocked his 1st goal also a highlight.

  9. It should be James Jordon has been consistent week in and out since round 1 with few exceptions. It won't be because he's not a flashy player but I'd have him ahead of Jackson this season. Jackson, Rivers, Jordon, Pickett, Sparrow, Petty, Spargo, Fritsch a pretty handy collection from a triumvirate of drafts. If Bowey, Laurie and Rosman come on JT will go down as a legend of the club.

  10. Don’t tell me that. I can’t begin to enjoy any international tournament until England have been knocked out. If someone were to tell me that we could only win the flag if they also won the Euros I’d be in a right bind.

  11. But it's an ABC story, so clearly unbalanced. I need to see how the Murdoch press cover the issue. Oh. Sorry, wrong thread.

  12. I'm not sure you know who the Left are. Australia has some of the most concentrated media ownership in the world and they're all right wing. Murdoch (owns most of the newspapers, including every regional QLD newspaper and Sky News), Costello (9 and Fairfax), Seven West and Rinehart's Channel 10 (her representative on the board now is Andrew Robb, you know, the traitorous Liberal MP that sold the Darwin Port to a Chinese company when he was in politics and then went and sat on that company's board after politics). Like conservatives in Britain that constantly attack the BBC for being supposedly left wing (this is the IPA playbook for privatisation - see the IPAs 'Why We Should Privatise The ABC and How To Do It'), conservatives here attack the ABC for a supposed left wing bias. All this comes out of the Murdoch/Rinehart think tank, the IPA. Single handedly responsible for shutting down the climate debate. Abbott implemented two thirds of their policies in his first year in office. Yet whenever independent studies into ABC bias are conducted, they usually always show a plain old centrist mix of issues and equal coverage of both the major parties (like here). The problem with the two major parties is one is centrist, the other is right wing, so the whole left wing right wing paradigm is played out on the conservative side. There's not a lot of left wing about Labor. They abandoned that in the 70s, when they abandoned the class conflict. They've been raging neoliberals since 1974. If you look at the Menzies Liberal Party, modern Labor sits well to the Right of that economically. Meanwhile, we've got the Murdoch media deliberately claiming Labor are some sort of Socialists.

  13. Third hand word. but is the same person who told me about Brown's six week mini preseason. BB is to play seniors this week. The club really happy with his GPS numbers last week. If you watched the game on turnover BB would sprint up the centre of ground defensively and that plus he was able to get into game on scoreboard has scored him a game apparently.

  14. The bomber fans were pumped up on Saturday. The match was going to be their coming out party for entering the 8. It was to be the confirmation of their charge to the flag by destroying the pretender Demons and extinguish the affront of us topping the ladder. One can’t blame them entirely though, the media propaganda pumping up their vital juices has been relentless for the past couple of weeks. They couldn’t handle the game not going to script.

  15. Jones desperately unlucky. Not surprised Brown did not come in. Give him another week to build his strength and fitness. He has played bugger all football in the last 6 weeks. Another game at vfl level and he comes in for Port game. And that will be tbe forward line settled. Assuming his form is ok I suspect he will play the rest of tbe season and finals from next week.

  16. As usual I am in the Confusion Room. In the last 2 matches Tom, Charlie, Kozzie and Bayley have kicked 3 goals. That’s not 3 goals a match that is 3 goals in total. I get Pressure Acts are some sort of God that gets worshipped by the coaches, but can’t we expect Pressure Acts + goals from our forwards? Surely if Ben kicks 5 in a match, albeit VFL, he deserves a chance? He is proven at AFL level and was drafted to kick goals. I’m hoping it’s the weather as most have pointed out

  17. Damien Barrett spoke about Melbourne’s drafting from 2017 to 2019 on the AFL site over the weekend. 17. Spargo Fritsch Petty 18. Jordan Sparrow 19. Jackson Pickett Rivers All playing consistent roles for the team. He was essentially arguing we’ve drafted as well as anyone - particularly in 17 and 18 when we didn’t have early picks. One third of the team in 3 drafts is exceptional.

  20. There are other compelling reasons in play as well. 1. The last time we won the flag, the Olympic Games were held in Tokyo. 2. We won our last flag in 1964, which is 57 years ago. I was born in 1957 which is 64 years ago. Make of that what you will, numerologists!

  28. I would agree for consistency, however Jackson plays a much more difficult role for a young player and is definitely someone who has a higher ceiling. Very few 19 year olds would be taking ruck time away from Gawn.

  29. Given England have progressed at the Euro’s, I was googling the origins of the chant/song “It’s coming home”. I couldn’t help but draw a parallel….. Both teams haven’t had a major trophy since the 1960’s Both teams invented the modern version of the game. Both teams are playing games at the home of football Both teams have had long suffering supporters. Im turning this into my new theme. Come on dees bring football home…..

Early payout @ $7.50 now - I'm going to hang in. I think Luke's best is yet to come. Should have eaten my own Pollyanna dog food and gone LJ into Demon's flag at something like $600 if it was allowed ...

  35. Going by the Chinese calendar (and why wouldn’t you ?), we will play, but not necessarily win a grannie in 2024. The years we’ve played for the flag since and including 1964 were all in the year of the Dragon. Make of that what you will, people who believe in that sh*t. ?

  38. Strange year in The Rising Star award. No real, absolute standout young players, but a huge number of very good youngsters with massive potential. Jackson is nowhere near the dominant force that Hogan was in 2015, but you can see the immense player that he could develop into.

  40. I always assumed it was because with the hair and his playing style it looks like an enthusiastic floppy-eared Beagle puppy has been allowed on the field. He's a very tough one to judge for Rising Star chances because of his versatility. His only outstanding areas stats-wise are hitouts where he has no rivals at all, contested marks where he is in the very top group, and slightly surprisingly contested possessions where he is right up there with inside mids like Tom Green. Thing is, he is also 'good' in every other category: possessions, tackles, disposal efficiency, clearances, one percenters, score involvements and even tackles inside 50. For all these things the lists go 'specialists in the role' and then there is Luke Jackson being 'best of the non-specialists'. He is the ONLY Rising Star ruckman worth mentioning, and he is also the most complete and well-rounded footballer in the entire Rising Star cohort. It's remarkable. Heh, I've actually talked myself into believing in his chances.

  41. Hi Skuit. An ex GF of mine is from Eindhoven so I have a big soft spot for the dutchies and PSV. I'm familiar with the hooligan element over there as well. Being a Scot there are a hundred reasons why I won't support our southern neighbours in international football. Some political, some historical, some media related. Having lived in England for a number of years though it has always puzzled me why so many genuinely lovely, funny and welcoming individuals turn into such a grotesque collective every two years for the Euros or World Cup. It's the only time I wished I was somewhere else and brexit unfortunately has only emboldened them. I think that there has been a deliberate attempt by both the media and political class over many years to airbrush the deeds and consequences of the English empire to the effect that it was at worst benign. As a result their people have been fed a deluded sense of place and entitlement in the world that the tories used to their benefit to get elected back in 2010 and continues today with their union jackery flag waving nationalism.

  43. The simpletons continue to say nonsensical things. The knocks on Fritsch are absolutely fair. And the fact that his name has come up as a forward to drop is justified and reasonable. We all know his strengths and that he is a weapon offensively. But those strengths have been absent for the last two games and due to his mostly incompetent efforts and willingness join in defensively, then his place in the side should obviously be up for discussion. Posters should really stop bringing up his what he's don't previously. It's irrelevant. This is a rolling season and our players must be contributing weekly of they want to keep their spot. Fritsch might be given another chance this weekend but it wouldn't surprise me if he was dropped. BB deserves another chance a Jones is next in line. BB for Fritsch imo. But I imagine they'll go with BB for Sparrow.

  45. Wise decision. What good would it do? After all, the AFL are the ones in cahoots with the umps in this nightmare. Only people who refuse to wake up can't see that. If it wasn't for the umps -- obviously jealous that they were never good enough to play for the mighty Bombers -- pulling strings behind the scenes, the noble pure and strong Essendon Bombers would have won this year's flag already. And the AFL clearly are okay with this!

  46. That is brilliant. I have never heard the term but know tactic very well. Its funny, because the tactic is pretty much the organising principle of the Murdoch mafia's business model - millions of spurious arguments designed to create furious arguments and division. And Murdoch's genius is the model is not based on ideology. He'll leave that to the suckers. It is about monetising conflict. And power of course. Theirs, that is. Trump, and his acolytes, has taken the core of the gush gallop model and put their own spin on it - flood the zone with so much [censored], so often that rebuttal becomes futile. And the very act of rebuttal confers some level of credibility to complete and utter nonsense. Imagine having to rebutt a claim like the Jan 6th insurrection was a false flag event. Or that trump won the election.

  47. Faulty, as i say there is little value in us batting this one back and forth. That said, i have one question - do you really believe this to be true? If so what evidence do you have that it is the case. And by evidence I don't mean the Murdoch/Sky echo chamber. I mean hard evidence. Not a Paul Murray or Peta Credlin editorial. Not anecdotal evidence, or a vibe or all my mates reckon. Hard evidence. I would argue it is completely and utterly untrue. And there is a mountain of hard, real evidence to back up that postion. Public polling for one (google it). I'll be my bottom dollar that even in NSW polling will show very strong support for the decision to lockdown. The Western Australian election. The New Zealand election. Landslide victories on the back of hard health restrictions, border closures and lockdowns. The fact that that every state and territory, bar tassie and Canberra, has chosen to lockdown at some point. And will continue to do so whenever there is on outbreak. Well, until such time as the feds get their [censored] together and 70% of the population is vaccinated. The public support (again see the polls) for the country to be in a virtual lockdown and not allowing international visitors is more evidence. We love that [censored]. Shut the door. Stay away. We're an island The fact there is broad support (again see the polls) for us allowing Australian citizens being stranded overseas. Bad luck mate - we're in lockdown. Which is why a Liberal government not making any move to change the settings on international visitors and travel. Why isn't the coalition, who are all about the free market, doing everything in its power to open the borders to get all businesses humming and international dollars flowing? The answer is obvious - because they would risk being smashed at the next election because there is overwhelming public support for closed borders (again see the polls). If anything they are going the other way becuase narrow path to victory Scotty is a political animal and he knows the public love nothing more than being kept safe. Lock us down ScoMo. Do people hate lockdown? Of course But the evidence that the public support lockdowns to control outbreaks is incontrovertible. If you have evidence to the contrary i would be interested in seeing it.

  48. The ABC has a full roster of pastisan zealots and yet you happily swallow every gulp of the tripe they feed you. Paul Murray is brilliant, as is Credlin. Kevin 07 must have palpitations every time they are on air. Defund the ABC and put the money into mental health treatment. At least the cash will find its way back to the newly unemployed activists. And Qanon is embarrassing garbage. Why bring that into an adult discussion?
