  1. On the topic, Brown will announce his choice to join The Demons sometime in next 24hrs. A massive win for the club and the third main target landed in 3 years. This is significant and most have no idea just how much this helps drive the new game plan Cannot wait to see big #50 leading hard in 2021!!!

  2. Brown will play for Melbourne for the next few years. I'm pleased without being ecstatic. BUT I'm not ''underwhelmed'' by this bloke, as some seem to be. In 3 years - 2017-2019 - he kicked the MOST goals in the AFL (188 frigging goals), which is no mean feat. And he hardly had the best midfield slotting it down his throat. I watched every one of his 65 goals from 2019 and two thirds did NOT come from leads. They were a combination of frees, contested marks, tackles, ground balls, and general play. And plenty of the goals from ''leads'' were not lace-out. In fact, only a few were. Plenty were just getting separation with smart leads and speed. Both Brown and Weideman cover a lot of territory. It's great that Weideman will get the second tall. Jackson will relieve ruck, play a bit on-ball, occasionally push deep as well as resting on the bench. It's a good get for the MFC.

  3. I know that we at least have had a conversation with Phillips and that it included Trac who knows him from junior footy days. This was before we missed on Smith and before the heat increased in the media on Pies having to dump significant salary. I dont know how it went but even if it was promising I suggest at this point we may be more keen for Collingwood to show us how much they need to relieve themselves of him or Treloar rather than us showing how desperate we are to bring in a second wing. I think Baker has potential but if anyone thinks we will be sitting back and not trying to solve our outside run or bringing in more mature consistent role players at a suitable cost then they underrate how we work. You just need to look at how much mature depth we are trying to push out the door.

  7. Apparently we can start expecting a bit more news in this area the next few days or so. The coaches are having the review findings presented to them along with the changes to staff and structure tomorrow. Haven't heard anything yet about who might come in, I would guess it's being kept very quiet out of respect for those that are being moved on.

  9. Please let's attempt to keep this conversation on the topic of 100% securing Ben Brown.

  10. I think you all need to back off a bit on Omac, ok he didn’t end up as we were all hoping, but a lot of you keyboard warriors who have probably never played a competitive game of football in your lives . Pretty average

  11. My brother came across this while cleaning out the house today. Someone must have the full set of 56 - all the sorry letters (and now emails) dating back to 1965. It begins: "I feel sure that you are probably relieved that the football season, for us anyway, is now over." How else to spin a season in which we won 1 game, by 1 point? The good news is the coach can see light at the the end of the tunnel, and if we donate to the club, the funds "will be utilised in acquiring some top name interstate recruits for next season." Now where have I heard all that before?

  12. @dazzledavey36 here is the small part of the article you're after. I hope this is okay @Demonland as it isn't the whole article. DEES LOOK INTERNALLY AFTER MISSING OUT ON ISAAC Melbourne speedster Oskar Baker looks set to be given the chance to step up on the Demons’ vacant wing next season. The Demons were keen on Hawthorn premiership midfielder Isaac Smith but the Hawk’s decision to land at Geelong means Baker will be first in line to cement a wing position. The Demons have Ed Langdon on one wing and plan to play Adam Tomlinson in defence next year. Baker, 22, has top speed and has played 12 games in the past two years including only three last season. The Demons are excited by his capacity to help add some speed and polish on the wing but the 184cm running machine will have a big pre-season ahead of him. The Demons also spoke about North Melbourne’s Jared Polec but the midfielder’s giant salary at the Kangaroos is a hurdle to any move – unless North paid a chunk of his wage. Harley Bennell was also given the opportunity on the wing but blew a contract extension when he broke COVID-19 protocols and then refused to return to Melbourne’s hub. Mitch Hannan will depart the Demons for the Bulldogs

  13. There will be a few others on this site around the same age as me. I was born in 1950 and saw my first game around 1955-56. Dad pointed out Ivor Warne Smith and the Cordner brothers. I think it was a week or two later I wanted to go to the footy again but Dad (Jack) said no- so I decided to drive there myself- not that I had any idea of how to drive let alone how to navigate to the MCG from Ashburton!! Ha Ha ! I only succeeded in rolling Dads car down the driveway and smashing the front headlight on his car--not a Happy Jack! Despite the harshness of the last 56 years, I lived through the great era and am so grateful for the memories that provided. I would dearly love another premiership or even a great era again-but if it doesn't happen I will always have those great memories to carry with me. :)

  14. Bennell, Dunkley, Wagner x 2, Hannan, Preuss, Macs x 2, VDB and ANB? That is 10 players possibly gone, with maybe another 1-2 added. At this stage it looks like only BB is likely. Rest assured we won’t be going to a draft with 9 late picks. We clearly are involved in other trades and our new cone of silence might be annoying to news hungry fans, but it has been an improvement on the past, in terms of successfully getting players in.

  15. Shout out to Sean Connery, Never Say Never Again. I really hope we aren’t pinning out hopes on Baker though. That’s not to say I don’t like him but I really would like us to push for Phillips.

  20. Latest from the Scum - St Kilda submits offer for free agent Brad Crouch as Adelaide hopes for pick two as compensation “In other trade news, North Melbourne spearhead Ben Brown is expected to nominate Melbourne as his prefered new home to help significantly bolster the Demons’ scoring power. “The Demons are expected to offer a future second-round pick for Brown. “But the move will almost certainly end Tom McDonald’s time at Melbourne with the swingman set to seek a new home, potentially at either GWS or Sydney.”

  22. More from the ever-reliable Ricky Nixon’s AFL Trade Scoops on Facebook — • Cedric Cox from Brisbane has requested trade back to WA home Fremantle set to offer him three years and West Coast has offered him two years. • Alex Witherden been linked to a three year deal at Essendon talks depends on trade deals him to consider it as part of a Daniher swap but most likely Brisbane did say they would ideally prefer to keep after Grant Birchall announced next year will be his last year at Brisbane. • Tom Phillips from Collingwood linked to a three year deal at Fremantle. • Jaidyn Stephenson from Collingwood in the last 48hrs only two clubs have asked about him was North Melbourne and Hawthorn. • Adam Treloar talks - Carlton and St Kilda pull out on Treloar with the last 24hrs Richmond has also expressed interest in him again but looking like he will stay at Collingwood now despite Gold Coast losing interest in him. • Shaun McKernan will tour St Kilda facilities very soon. • Devon Smith despite being linked to Collingwood talks / he told the club he wishes to stay at Essendon next year. • Jacob Townsend despite being linked to Sydney again talks Essendon is keen to sign him on for another year. • Sam Simpson from Geelong been linked to a two year deal at GWS • Peter Wright from Gold Coast been linked to two clubs Collingwood and Essendon Collingwood are favourites to lure him over. • Jack Gunston after being linked to a three year at Collingwood talks - he wishes to stay at Hawthorn. • Chad Wingard been linked three clubs the last 48hrs Carlton Richmond Collingwood talks he will stay at Hawthorn. • Neville Jetta from Melbourne talks - he was spotted at Collingwood having a meeting with officials. • Bachar Houli told Richmond he wishes not to go to Essendon - he wishes to stay at Richmond next year. • Marlion Pickett talks he will sign on at Richmond talks is two years have been put on the table to him. • Jack Lonie from St Kilda talks he’s set to have a meeting with Bulldogs officials today. • Jimmy Webster – Is understood to be on his way to Adelaide alongside Dunstan as the Saints and Crows work out a deal for Brad Crouch • Lachie Young has requested a move to North Melbourne from Western Bulldogs • Also heard Brad Scott was spotted having a meeting with Essendon talks going around he’s favourite to get Dan Richardson job as head of football for Essendon

  23. I hope the club isn’t getting carried away by a couple of nice goals by Baker in the GWS game. He didn’t play particularly well in the Freo and Essendon games. They need to chase a proven winger such as Polec or Phillips to be our starting winger next year and retain Baker as depth. I agree that they should keep Tomlinson as a defender rather than winger next year as he was solid and reliable when he played down back.

  25. was the jack watts of the backline but that's a tad harsh on jack. Oscar never passed the eye test from day 1. His best games were when no-one noticed him because his blunders were usually horrific. If he leaves, i'll promise to be a completely different poster in 2021. I've been calling for his delisting for 4 years. The Mfc are usually a few years slower than me though.

  26. Who cares how he gets them, staging, double grabs, spoon feed by the umps... does he kick fing goals?! Does he have the potential to kick more goals than our current fwds and help us win games/finals? $5, I’d like to take that pony for a loooong ride.

  27. I can understand the cash side of it, but why would you want to go to Essendrug at the minute with spot fires popping up everywhere? He would be transferring to a club with the equal amount of complete hopelessness as the club he's come from.

  32. 89 games with 44 goals. Averages 22 disposals a game and 2.5 tackles. Had a fairly ordinary season this year by his standards in this disrupted and truncated season. I’d jump all over him. He would be a great get and only 24 years is yet to hit his prime.

  33. Should TMac stay it shouldn't directly affect contracts with Oliver and Petracca. Any new contracts with them will add to current which expire in 2021 and 2022 respectively. So one way or another TMac's cotract will be off the books or at a vastly reduced level by the time we pay Petracca more. And for Oliver we can tip more in the years post 2022. But there are other important deals to be done next year: Gawn, Jackson, Salem, Weideman etc but I would think timing of their $ over the term of the contract will overcome any major issues. I don't expect TMac to stay and it would be better to have his $ off the books but don't see his sal to be a major hurdle if he stays. Tom has been as loyal as Jones, Jetta and Gawn and has stuck thru the tough years. If we don't get Brown, I wouldn't be too unhappy for Tom to stay and give him a chance to find form and fitness.

  34. In my surfing youth, Geelong was a nice place to drive towards from home in the SE suburbs of Melbourne, in my 351 GTHO (and Sandman before that). A quick feed, usually great hamburgers or a small pizza when these were made by great pizzariers in the Geelong hill strip, refuel at cheap prices, and off to the coast road for the waves, sands and sheilas. Never thought the old Geelong was a bad place; it was usually a great place filled with great people. Cannot say that about the footy club down there - but that was winter and on the weekends, it was Mt Hotham or a home game at the 'G. There were always good memories of Geelong as a town, a stop-over, a launching pad for some of my real interests 'back in the days...' I hope Geelong has not deteriorated since then. In summer, it was a hub of sheer delight.

  37. Arrogant? Pretty rough I reckon mate. Pretty sure 99% of posters could recognise I was having a bit of a laugh. I was confident in my info but things clearly changed but I certainly don’t think I was arrogant. Outside of a few posters I think most worked out I wasn’t taking things too seriously pretty quickly.
