Jetta's attack on that contest in the last will be my lasting memory of this game - and the man himself. I appreciate you Neville.35 points

While he didn't hit the scoreboard, I thought Mitch Brown was good for us tonight. 13 touches and 7 marks and he got up the ground to give us a target as well. His experience was on full display throughout this game. Makes the decision to drop him last week for Preuss look even worse than it already did.28 points

A great win indeed. But job is not done. Glad the players didn't over celebrate. Job is not done, as we need a few things to go our way. On a personal note, I'm very proud of Charlie Spargo. Kid (yes he is only 20 years of age) cops it more then any other player on our list, and to see him play a significant role in tonight's win kudos to his extreme hard work off field.20 points

Shame on you @dazzledavey and anyone else who wanted us to lose. I might get upset with things at the club but always want my boys to win Love Rivers and again Spargo showed his worth20 points

That's a bloke who knows that the job isn't done. That's the maturity we want. Be happy with the win, but we need to focus on next week very quickly.17 points

Something interesting to note. Rivers post-game said the senior players were helping the kids defend. Then this from May: Maybe, finally, some proper leadership?16 points

Looks gone, but still giving 110% How was that hit late, really made the contest count14 points

Remember the last time we had Melbourne people running the club? It was a disaster. Stynes, Connolly etc. PJ even said when he started at Melbourne that the club kept going back to Melbourne people too much (rather than going and getting the best people to run the club) and was part of the reason we’ve been ****house for so long. So people keep whinging that we suck but then go and say for the club to “go and get Garry Lyon” or “go and get (insert other unqualified Melbourne person here)”. That’s basically contradicting yourself. It’s stupid and goes against what the best clubs and organisations do. You bring in the best and most qualified people no matter their background. If the best person for the position just happens to be a Melbourne person then who cares? It’s a bonus. But it shouldn’t be the reason they get hired ffs.12 points

Steven May is just about the best player I've ever seen in red and blue. There I said it.11 points

Yep, the Spargo-trashing really needs to ease up around these parts. People have been unreasonably unkind about the kid at times. He’s developing nicely and has been a big factor in some of our wins this year.10 points

Shows us that he knew the pressure was on us, knew we were not good enough in Cairns, and knows it's not done yet. Funny - if he's going on about how great we are people would criticise him for overcelebrating, wouldn't they?10 points

I really did not see that coming. Lever made mistakes early but he and May in the final quarter were huge. Rivers is a gem. Spargo certainly did his job. Pickett much improved. Baker gave us a second wing. Keeps hope alive for one more week at least. And was a great game to boot.10 points

A win is a win and if nothing else helps this group a lot in terms of next season. I'm very proud of the boys as I was after St Kilda because if you can prove you can grind out a win over quality opposition that has to count for something. A real enjoyable game, didn't think it was the most skillful and both teams really honked it up at times but there were some amazing goals and some serious ticker. Everyone put their body on the line and weren't afraid to go when they had to. Was happy with the way Baker was used and expect the same next week, Petracca - 19 contested possessions! A ripping goal too. Steven May - This might be the whisky talking but give him AA now! Spargo continues to keep pressure on and has always had a decent set shot. And then we get to a young man names Trent Rivers. Make no mistake, this kid was a huge reason why we won tonight. Hits targets for fun by foot and two clutch goals, but maybe the thing I loved most of all was his desire to get to that contest and punch with about 18 seconds left. The guy very much looks the part. Langdon is without a doubt pickup of the year now. Nev's commitment in that contest late and taking one of the team really got us going I thought, he's been doing it his whole career and although he's in the twilight now you can really only remember things like this from him. Don't get me wrong there were some negatives from the game but after a whole week of talking negatives I don't even feel like it! Enjoy the win everyone, it can't hurt!9 points

Well I hope we win but I wont be tickling the Sportsbet account or the maid , for that matter. Like probably most on here, I am just so ****ty and [censored] off that we find ourselves in this situation yet again. In the end, winning or losing tonight probably wont make much difference but I'd like to see something that renews hope for supporters and pride within the club.9 points

GWS are a rabble, they’ve dropped their Captain and made eight changes. We’ll win this easy. Giants by 43.9 points

This is a weak argument IMO. I don't really care about "Melbourne people" running the club. PJ wasn't a "Melbourne person", but he had us going in the right direction. Ultimately, as long as the club is heading in the right direction, I probably won't care who's running it.9 points

I recall being in Palm Cove when we drafted Rivers and I started yelling in excitement, as he was the one I wanted for our last pick. People were staring at me. I think I then asked you if you knew much about him as a kid, not about his footy. I said at the time that he could be the best of the 3 we got and pushed him on DL from that moment on. Yes he could be the best of the 3 and I am thrilled for him and the great game he played tonight. Pickett played his best game for us too and could have kicked 4.8 points

Just incredibly proud. Our season is still alive, which is unreal considering all the talk throughout the week that the board, the coach, certain players etc were all done for. The kids really stood up for us. Rivers outstanding, Spargo had a big say in that last term, Baker showed some good signs and, as usual, guys like Trac did some really good things for us. Lots still to dissect, especially with some of the usual turnovers and silly mistakes, but we stood up tonight and it was great to see. However, not sure I can bring myself to watch next week. I'll be too damn nervous!8 points

We cannot simply throw an 18 year in one of the most crucial game of the year straight into the side on the back of a 5 week lay off. Stick with Weideman, he just needs to learn how to get himself out from this rut. Dropping him won't fix that. This is all part of his development into a good power forward.7 points

Should go and slap yourself for your comment re team selection wanting us to lose. Rate you as a poster but that was poor7 points

Baker stood up, May is awesome and after all the negative publicity around him last year I hope the media give him the praise he deserves. A great season. Langdon, wow just awesome, his gut running is fantastic. A great win and well done melbourne7 points

We've been harsh on Goody and the boys and rightly so, but I'm extremely proud of this effort tonight. Superb. Enjoy all!7 points

Wonderful recruit. He was everything we needed on the wing. Now, if someone like Baker can also step up to play a consistent game on the wing, then we would REALLY have something.7 points

The worst thing that has happened to this club in the past decade is the departure of Jackson. He saved this club from being a complete joke. I wish he had stayed longer.7 points

Except for when we got belted by Port. I've said this in another thread, but I don't think Weid has played poorly at all, before tonight. Tonight I felt he was outpositioned and unable to work his way into the contest. However, we will go nowhere as a club without consistency forward of centre, and we can't rely on any two of Brown, Jackson and Weideman to do it. Weideman's got runs on the board and although he was poor tonight, he goes nowhere for mine.6 points

@olisik your thoughts on the win (and/or Rivers and Pickett's games)? IMO, Pickett's first half was his best football all year. He used his pace to apply more pressure in the forward half, his touch was there, and he got involved in scoring chains. And Rivers was incredible.6 points

Great to see us back to playing with some flair and dash. I’ll accept the higher errors when you give that style a go. May and Langdon are immense. Trac and Oliver in particular refused to lose. However that’s a win for the role players Baker, Rivers, Koz, Spargo, Jetta did what they had to do. Let’s at least give ourselves a shake next week,.6 points
