I can hardback (see it happening). In fact I will be surprised if it doesn't. Going to the football will be relatively low risk. Easy to limit crowd and enforce social distancing (e.g. mandatory four seat spacing, no food or bars, no members dining, stagger entry, temperature tests at entry, maybe even mandatory installation of the covid app etc etc) and critically is outdoors. Transmission appears to primarily have been in clusters, certainly in Australia. There has been almost none here where there has been random, fleeting contact. Which is why the case in QLD in the news today is causing consternation for official (How did he get it?) All the clusters here (and seemingly most in other countries) have been in environments where people have shared space for a good chunk of time indoors (weddings, work places, cruise ships, family homes, restaurants . We had covid in the community at likely a higher level in say early March to mid May than we do now. In that period, just prior to the restrictions we had 95k people at the world cup, mutiple outdoor music festivals (I was at one) and concerts etc. When the restrictions came in - and close to the peak - thousands crushed into supermarkets to panic buy. I'm not down playing risk and fully support the restrictions and the need for social distancing and cleaning etc but the fact that there seems to have been very little community transmission in those environments in that period suggests they are relatively low risk. Not no no risk of course. In July we will have thousands of people back on public transport and working from offices. That is high risk. Compared to that football is low risk. Again not no risk but with mitigation stratgies and ability to respond quickly test and isolate, an acceptable risk.

If there is serious second wave that leads to widespread community transmission then we will go back to lock down and everything will be off, not just football. But widespread community transmission is relatively unlikely whilst we have our borders closed and they have the capacity to test, trace and isolate (remembering they can do this so much better now than 3 months ago) Second wave or not infections will happen in the community. 100%. But they are now controllable and are very unlikely to trigger mass infection. :Look at the cider meats clusters. Such was their confidence they could contain that and find everyone who might have become infected they still went forward with the next phase of lifting restrictions. At the footy they could make sure each ticket had an allocated seats and require members or ticket holders to provide their full contact details. And if someone tested positive immediately contact everyone in their bay, stand or even the whole ground. Compare that to say the train.

Had a bit of a play with how a redeveloped Gosch's Paddock could look. Summary: Collingwood sized oval and running track MFC Facility with Pool / Gym / Offices (and the "Social Club / Function Centre") - 3 stories high. Approx Increased underground car parking Indoor Hall (like the EFC Hangar) towards the end of the facility. Modelled on the Casey Fields hall currently being developed but size increased to fit as much hall as possible. Can be used by Melb Victory / Storm. 2 x Rugby / Football pitches along Punt Road Upgraded running tracks around and between ovals Re-aligned off-ramp from City Link to meet up with Kelso Street intersection. Increased parkland. Common grass area. Small hill for oval viewing in top right hand corner. Upgraded seating, playground, exercise facilities placed around the park. Thoughts?

Why? The AFL says we can't have 20 minute quarters because we need consistency across the season but then say they are considering increasing the interchange? I have seen no rationale offered for why they would increase the bench. It was originally floated when they were looking at a compressed season but now with a normal fixture going ahead (no mid week games) there is absolutely no reason for it The game is run by absolute buffoons, shorter quarters plus an increased interchange equals low scoring snoozefests

I would think that for the AFL to reduce the salary cap for 2021 that they would need agreement with the AFLPA to revise existing contracts downward, otherwise what happens if a club have most of its players locked away so that they are over the revised salary cap with their existing contracts.

OK clearly the coach is keen on having small forwards, but I just hope that he realises that in hindsight, he took it a step too far with five small forwards against West Coast and that he can play Jackson as a mobile tall, who has the speed to pressure like Spargo or Bedford anyway and one who can also provide a down the line outlet we so sadly missed in Rd 1. Not to mention he can give Gawny a chop out if needed and means that if we lose a tall through injury, it is not game over. Clearly with shorter games, the pace will be intensified this season and as a result playing three tall backs as we did against WC and most sides is not a realistic option. Many of you have commented that Lever is better as the peel off intercept man, but I'm afraid as he's got older (and stronger) he is now better suited to play on a big. Hence if you are setting up a defence it is May and Lever as talls backed by a quick intercept tall which is Smith at this stage, but already there are promising signs that Rivers will be ready for that role as well soon. O.Mac should only be in the side when one of May or Lever is out injured. So with the above logic in mind, here's my 22 with the back-ups waiting in the wings in brackets. I have ruled out Bennell and VDB, but clearly they will come into the equation soon. I just hope they wait maybe until Rd 3 or 4 and don't rush them. The fact this doesn't necessarily need to be a binary list management decision, I'll play along with the Hun on this one - remains to be seen what each brings to the table in 2020. JV may well crack the sads when/if the going gets tough, as he may well be entitled to do, or Fritsch may not get the supply. For mine Fritsch's return on investment is far greater, more upside too.

Agree. I have said on here before but i saw him at the g (social distancing not required at the top of the Ponsford that day) destroy us early in his career and thought he was destined for greatness. At the risk of hyperbole i remember one of the purest footballers and best movers i have ever seen. If he stays fit i see him playing as a permanent half forward who will be incredibly difficult to find a good match up for. Terrific overhead, fast, tallish and can easily cover 60 metres with his kicks so a threat from anywhere near the 50 metre arc.

The club did when they first moved there, and it was one of the reasons that they did. At the time I was told that 5000 families were moving into Casey every year. With the average family having 2 kids, than meant 10,000 kids each and every year. This is a nightmare for schools i.e. building them to accommodate such a big influx every year...you probably need new primary school and 1 new high school every year while that rate of population increase is happening. And that is why the Club was running "Read like a Demon" and various school programmes. Get the kids interested before the age of 10. Get them barracking for the local club...now named the Casey Demons....all that is needed is some success to truly lock them in.
