Very sad news - was my favourite player from when I as a little fella with my Dad in the later part of the 60's - hence my Avatar. Ran around with No: 11 on my jumper. Been some bloody great 11's since then! Condolences to the Anderson clan.

Yeah nah, that article is cherry picking at it's finest. Opinion is one thing, facts are another. Can we please stop comparing it to the flu? We don't know the case/ fatality rate, but no-one is pretending that we do. What we do know with absolute certainty is that allowing the virus to spread unchecked will result in a lot of preventable deaths. Yes the mortality rate is low for young, healthy people. But if you're talking about millions of potential infections, a low mortality rate is still a disturbingly high number of deaths. That's not hysteria, that's just maths. Right now, we've really got 2 choices. Option 1: stay in lockdown and hope for the best. Option 2: relax restrictions, watch the number of cases increase exponentially, then say "Oh [censored], we shouldn't have done that!", and then go back to lockdown, now with overflowing hospitals and morgues. If we get to choose between the New York and South Korea options, why on earth would you choose New York?

I hope they are found OK. This is a terrible situation, regardless of who they are, or the ‘advice’ they ignored.

This talk of setting up a completion in an out of the way venue is a total load of c... Can you imagine 18 teams and staff in one place, isolated from their wives and kids (you could have 18 teams, staff wives and kids surely). Expect that no one is infected or that no one would go troppo... I'll tell you what it is. It's just throwing things out there to keep the AFL in the news. He was more than 'just reliable'. He and Roet and Leahy formed the best half back line in the competition. I recall a game against Geelong at Kardinia Park. The votes went 3,2 and 1 to those lads.

A terrific player whose career was hampered by injury. A dasher off the half back flank but could play tall. Guts and determination. Great to watch in his prime until injury slowed him down.

Nearly chased down Gabbo's run to the goal square in the last quarter of the 64 grand final. Caught up with him at the 50th anniversary lunch in 2014 when he signed my team sheet from the GF Footy Record. Fourteen out of twenty were there. Not bad after 50 years. For those who played and those who were there we are getting to that age. Another premiership would be nice.

I was just watching a couple of videos of a young guy named Jon on the “The Melbourne Football Club, The Mighty Demons” Facebook page, who had received among other things, a gift and best wishes from Demonland. That was one of the most touching things I’ve seen in a long while and is something we all need during these dark times. Good on you Andy, you’re a good man!!

so it is a big fail by the coaching staff as their teaching failed to be followed by players when under pressure. We had almost the first twenty minutes of that game with forward dominance and could not meaningfully convert. They went up and kicked four quick goals...game over.

so true and a good balance to the entitlement based claim by the clubs that members should not dare to ask for money back. Sure the players will give the fans a special salute or similar but the corporates if anything will get stronger simply because there will be less of them for a while. As an aside I worked for a large professional firm. We had seats for the tennis from the time Rod Laver opened. First year they were behind the server and around twenty rows back. Fast forward ten years and a few economic corrections and we were second row from the front as the former high flyers faded from the scene..

It'd help if our midfielders kicked more goals themselves. Throws a cat among the pigeons if they storm to fifty and bang it through a few times.

The players up the ground need to lower their eyes and only 'bomb' it when under extreme pressure or no one leading. We can't have the likes of TMac leading into a good position for him to see the ball continually going over his head. Lower your eyes Backs and Mids please. I would also add that if they do lower their eyes and pass to someone leading even if the pass is crap and runs along ground at least it gives the forwards a 50/50 chance. No chance sailing over their heads

The zone just means forwards have to work and run harder. Ours are mostly stationary, especially the smalls, and when they do lead it is usually just in a straight line for about 10 metres.

Spot on George. And the modern zone set up a all teams employ (and I reckon the eagles have close to the best, perhaps just behind the tigers, though rance not there brings them close) places an even greater premium on kicking skills and decision making. The zone means players need to be able to more with their kicks these days. Twenty years ago the best kicks were those that could drill a low 40 metre bullet to a neita or a Dunstall. Still an important skill. But the best kicks now have to weight their kicks to advantage, pop it into a hole, checkside, kick long enough to get over a press etc etc. Good decision making is just as important. When to use which kick, who to kick to, who not to, when to go backwards and reset etc etc Players like hill pendlebury and suckling have the skill set and decision making. We have very few playears with these skills. Or decision making skill for that matter. And as i have said for years it is our biggest issue. And a player like Hibberd has only one kick in his toolkit. A left foot helicopter. Combine that with woeful decision making and an an inability to kick on his right and he is the very last plsyer who should be kicking it inside 50. I was really disappointed he took so many against wc. Goodwin should have made it clear he was not to. If he did we have another problem.

I reckon that’s on the podium in the obscurity stakes.

I noticed in R1 (fwiw) that our forwards regularly led up, only for the kick coming in to go over their head and into the arms of an Eagles defended. Even the TV commentators were onto it. Surely it can't be rocket surgery to practice leading patterns at training over and over and over and over with kicks coming in that hit them flush? Footy is a pretty simple game, when it's all boiled down. We overcomplicate it and then panic when going i50, have been for the last few years

Best match I’ve ever attended was the ‘Merger Match’ against Hawthorn Round 22 1996. Hawthorn by a point, Dunstall kicks 10 (including 100th), Neitz kick 6, Farmer 4. Hawthorn needed a win to play finals, a Melbourne win could mean it was the last time either team played in the AFL. Incredibly vocal, passionate and emotional crowd.

Just saw a very sweet slice of quarantine life. Two young lovers in jogging gear in Royal Park, clearly pretending to be doing their exercise for the day so they could steal a moment together. Not ashamed to say I had a slight catch in my throat as I called the police.

It is really pleasing to see that people are STILL buying memberships to support the club. Since last Saturday 317 people have effectively made a "donation" to the club, to keep it alive. Total as of today: 37,888
