Don't care what anyone says. It was a nice change to spend a quiet Friday night and watch Melbourne win a game of football, especially against Hawthorn. Let's hope we're allowed to attend the football this year. Don't want to see it cancelled, or played in empty stadiums.9 points

Impressed by Jackson, obviously he was outmuscled by a mature AFL player in Ceglar but he’s got some real class and great agility for a big man8 points

Let's be honest, everyone that frequents this forum has to be die hard fans, so it's not hard to imagine we're all a little excited about footy tonight and we're probably a little insane because of the club we go for.8 points

What game were you watching? Spargo's quick hands and smart position were one of the highlights of the night.7 points

Vanders walking around the rooms in runners. No ice. Literally no idea what this means. Just passing on what I’m seeing.7 points

3 from 3 (I refuse to count the Essendon game as we played next to no one in it, plus it doesn't suit my narrative...) Pretty much no injuries (fingers crossed for AVB and Weid) Some encouraging signs, especially with the defensive unit Gawny made a successful comeback Fritsch kicks 5, Milkshake 4 We'll roll the Eagles by 10 goals in Round 1. Bring it on!7 points

I know I've said it and will say it again Tomlinson and Langdon are huge additions to this team. Well done Josh Mahoney.7 points

I am not sure why you panic when he has ball in hand. His kicking is actually very good, one of the best we have7 points

Steven Mays kick in from full back to Gawn in the 2nd quarter was beautiful. Got us a goal end to end in 12 seconds.6 points

Bedford looked impressive from limited minutes, will certainly give Pickett a run for his money for that small forward role if not rd 1 early into the season Ball movement infinitely better with Langdon and Tomlinson running the wings Wouldnt mind 10 of Bayley Fritsch Was great seeing May looking happy out there and the back 6 settled Lockhart massively impressive down back, great composure with ball in hand and should make his way into the rd 1 side As hard as it is being optimistic about this club at times, this preseason has been exceptional and the boys have set themselves up well for a good crack at the season. Will have nowhere to hide and no one to blame if this all goes belly up. Go Dees!6 points

I’ll take credit for this stirring victory. When I ran into the boys at the airport yesterday, my inspirational words to Jake Lever were obviously passed onto the rest of the group, lighting the fire in the belly on their quest for glory. You’re welcome... *mic drop6 points

Agree 100%. Omac is very reliable with ball in hand and does not make 'semi regular uncontested skill errors'. He is a more effective kick than he is handball, but overall, he is not one to worry about when he has the ball. It's the one part of his game that doesn't really need much work. You're also correct in that his weaknesses are that he is reactive and can ball watch; and he is also quite slow with a poor turning circle, so he often misses the chance to impact either the footy or an opposing forward with speed. He is the polar opposite of Frost. Omac = Smart, Safe but slow and reactive Frost = Dumb, Risky with speed and high twitch So many fans watch Footy with blinkers on. They see Omac lose a 1v1 contest with a loose ball against a more nimble opponent, which means conceding a goal because of where he plays at full back, and therefore everything Omac does is no good. All of a sudden he can't kick, can't spoil or tie his own bootlaces. Another poster above suggested Bedford brings everything ANB brings re. endurance, but with better skills. ANB doesn't have amazing skills, but have you watched Bedford at all? Earlier in the game against North he missed 2 regulation set shots from exactly the same position, 25 out albeit with a breeze. Later on, he gathered the ball in midfield and tried a 5m kick that landed in the arms of the opposition. For a small player, he is not highly skilled and has an irregular ball drop. This is not a criticism as I think he has potential, but to suggest he's more skilled than ANB on the showing of one practise game with less than full-AFL intensity and pressure is just absurd. The poster who said ANB would have sprayed Bedford's running goal out on the full - ANB has kicked that exact goal for us, playing GC in Brisbane in 2018, coming off the back of the square. He's probably done it other times as well, in full AFL games. He's also topped the team in pressure acts, score assists and kicked over 20 goals as a roaming HFF in 2018, with regular possession counts over 20. On historical and exposed form he's so far ahead of Bedford it's not even funny. I am not some ANB fanatic and I think we can do better in his position as I question his decision making under pressure and think he lacks explosiveness, but he is continually undervalued. I understand when supporters of other teams make these observations, but you're right binman I just don't know how anyone can watch the Dees semi-regularly (or regularly enough to watch a practise game live stream!) as a supporter and fail to actually comprehend what is going on.6 points

How good do the new NB MFC shoes look? Just received the email from the club. Also how good does the majority of the attire look? They have improved so much over the last 5 years. - https://www.newbalance.com.au/featured/our-teams/melbourne-fc/5 points

Had a few DD? Having a differing opinion is great and needed but you really do offer zero value here. You just tend to slag people off rather than give anything back. It’s an Internet forum for Dees fans in case you missed that part.5 points

That umpire was stolen by gypsies as a child. The gypsies realised he was no good and left him in the forest for the bears to raise. The bears rejected him and wouldn't even eat him. He had no proper upbringing and developed neither acceptable social skills nor the ability to interact with decent folk. The AFL saw his potential to be a field umpire where his background and skill set wouldn't be any sort of hindrance. Here he is tonight making soft decisions leading to a Hawthorn goal. Should we expect anything different ??? Hell no.5 points

True. But novel viruses are notoriously unpredictable - major pandemics that have killed millions of people have occurred several times throughout human history. It would be the height of naivety to assume that it couldn't happen again. Coronavirus may or may not be the next one - but at this point, the best available medical advice seems to be that it very much has the potential. It may very well eventuate to nothing - but I think that dismissing the virus as a non-event is just as foolish as mindless panic (not suggesting that you are Jaded, but many people are very quick to downplay it). PS congrats on the wedding.5 points

They gained an advantage over the other clubs for 8 years and played in a heap of finals, its irrelevant whether the error was inadvertent or not. And how does one prove an error is inadvertent and not deliberate !?!? Curious that there was no mention of the amount they were over the TPP, which makes me suspect that it wasn't an insignificant amount. Also curious, that the error was discovered by the new chief financial officer while others who over saw it have convenient left People need to be jumping up and down about this and demanding some transparency.4 points

...and Daisy? Daisy played for Darebin in the VFLW league. This is her record: ...Pearce is a ten-time premiership player (seven as captain), six-time Helen Lambert Medallist (VFLW Brownlow equivalent). In her two completed AFLW seasons to date, Pearce has twice been voted AFLW Players' best captain, and is a dual AFL Women's All-Australian (as captain in the 2017 team and vice-captain in the 2018 team) and dual Melbourne best and fairest winner. She also captained Victoria in the inaugural AFL Women's State of Origin match in 2017, where she was adjudged best afield. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daisy_Pearce She has captained our AFLW team since the beginning and had a number off-field roles for the club. She is a huge draw card to games and memberships. What else does someone need to do to make it to the DL banner?4 points
