  1. Can we accidentally give them O. McDonald instead?

  2. He now has a wife/partner and a couple of kids. He has a surgeon saying they did something new and is now ready to go. He has acknowledged his past indiscretions and is saying he is a changed man who needs to provide for his family. He can be taken with our last pick and given an incentive based contract. We always whinge about only taking the whitebread players. It is worth a go, as the upside is a large return and the downside is minimal, as he would just be delisted.

  3. 2018 Result Comparing the two boards shows how poor the coaches thought our year was! Last year it was won with 657 votes; this year with 464. 10th position came in last year at 366 votes. This year at 199 votes. As I understand it (and could someone please confirm) 4 coaches give each player a score out of 10 for each game making the max number of votes available as 880. This year a lot of players had 0 to 2 out of 10 scores from all four voting coaches. The comparison accurately reflects our season - it was poor but someone has to win (the right people did) and someone has to be in the top 10 albeit it with a very low score.

  4. Petracca needs to just be Petracca. There doesn't need to be any pressure to replicate Dusty or Dangerfield. I think Petracca has a different set of traits to either player as well. Petracca needs to work out how he can best use his attributes in the midfield. He is a unique player.

  5. Ultimately I think this is why supporters are let down by certain players, the expectation that they’ll be the equivalent of another teams star. I have no issues with Trac, he’ll continue to build his tank and fitness and will be his own star.

  7. I was totally engaged in the streamed version of the Bluey. Seeing an 83yo Ronald Dale present his leadership trophy to Max was worth the wait. Yes, there were some technical issues but we've come a long way on that front since '64, even though we've seemed incapable of ever moving beyond that 12th premiership. It wasn't so long ago that supporters who didn't attend the B&F would have to rely on a one paragraph report in the Sun, or HS, the following morning. Another highlight was Jon's involvement in presenting James Harmes with the Ian Ridley Memorial Trophy. Max's acceptance speech was uplifting, and Clarrie showed he is developing his ability to present on formal occasions, which he seems destined to experience a multitude of times in future years. I have no problem with the players and officials celebrating together, even after a disappointing year. Its not the GF that signals the end of our year, its the B&F. Now the entire list and the coaches can move on with new resolve! It is no surprise that the internal voting of the coaching panel differs from popular opinion and/or the view of the umpires. It always does... The voting at a B&F gives an insight into what a club values... all place getters deserve respect... and the love that Max refers to!

  8. I have no words for the results tonight. Shocked and confused. Gawn robbed. Viney? I just don’t know. 2019 continues to make no sense.

  9. Now we just need good wingman to kick the ball back in after Frosty boots it out on the full against us.

  10. We should trade pick 22 and our 2020 first rounder for Langdon and pick 6 which Fremantle get from St Kilda. Then we take 2 of Young, Serong, Weightman, Flanders and Ash...

  11. IMO Harmes was easily ahead of Viney.

  14. If we take 3 to the draft, unless we have some sort of sweet deal with GWS i think we have to make a bid on their academy guy if he is rated that highly. We of all clubs cant afford to miss any opportunity to slow down the growth of the AFL" pet clubs. Why on earth would we allow an easy extra hit at the first round for GWS if we can prevent it? If he is rated in the top 5 and fills a need, i say we bid and make GWS pay a price. We havent exactly made like bandits in our trades with GWS, so its time to get a bit back.

  16. The role may not have suited him perfectly, but he was by far the best of a sorry bunch when he was given the role. However, he gave everything he had to it and to the club, and I can never fault him for that. Good on him for also recognising that it is time for him to step aside as captain. Thanks for everything, Jonesy. Hopefully this move will also ensure you have a good season for us in 2020 without having to worry as much about that aspect of your game.

  17. OK I can let some stuff pass by without comment...like the 'had ofs' instead of 'had haves' and 'loosing' for 'losing' but this is in a thread title. It should be 'Who BEARS the most blame?' Bear in this case is not an animal but a verb meaning 'to carry' or 'support'. 'Bare' makes no sense in this context unless the originator reckons whoever is most responsible should bare their [censored], but even then I don't think it works. As to the answer, the midfield and the forwards, for failing to connect and failing to convert inside 50s to genuine scoring opportunities, with a further burden of responsibility for whoever decided we did not need a goal kicking/kicking coach.

  18. Just straight swap him for Isaac Smith

  19. No one is saying he is one of the best, but has been best 22 all year and played his heart out through a dismal season. Held his head up when others dropped their bundle. That counts for plenty.

  20. Is this the same player that has been roundly criticised by most supporters over the years for running around like a chook with its head cut off & the worst disposal in the team. Now he’s one of our best & we’re up in arms about him being traded Which one is it???

  21. As long as he turns up to Pre-Season super fit and at the correct weight this time I won't have an issue. I don't mind him having a sneaky beer...just not like how he got caught out this year. Have a quiet beer celebrating a win not while injured with the team struggling. It wasn't a good look. However, I think he has learnt his lesson. I can't help but like Steven May. He shows passion and care. Particularly after that interesting argument/discussion with fellow Demons defender Sam Frost during one of the games. He is a former Captain at the Suns and can be a leader at the Demons. But actions will speak louder than words. He needs to keep super fit and hopefully have better luck with injuries in 2020. I wish Steven May all the best in 2020 and hope he has a wonderful year both on and off the field. Both the club and Steven May deserve success but they need to work hard to earn it.

  22. Lot of people here seem to think that the club has faith in O-Mac to fill Frost's void. I reckon Petty is the guy they rate who will fill that void R1 2020. Know the club rates him highly and was drafted as a KPD despite his success up forward in the back half of the year

  24. Agree. I think Smith was a big loss this year. I really rate him and have tge feeking tbat wirh some luck with injury he could become something special. Smith's unavailability exacerbated the issues created by weeds and Mac's struggles and the absence of hannan and avb. We just could not bring the ball to ground often enough. Not that had anyone who could rove the spill. I read an article in the age (I think- I forget by whom - gleeson maybe?) that talked about the importance of lynch and reiwoldt bringing the ball to ground when they were unable to mark (which is increasingly hard to do with zines and floods). I'm sure the plan was for Smith to play that role for the dees. Hit the pack and use his athletism and leap to create araerial contests. I am really pleased he has re signed and really hope he stays fit. If he does he will be like a new recruit for us.

  25. Yes agree. Green is the right guy for us, good pedigree, quality person, size ready to play, hard at it and competitive. Large family support in Melbourne

  26. The one thing Tomlinson does is take a contested mark on the outlet from the d50. We were so predictable with Max the only target in 19. As a guy who can take that mark and hit up a player (hopefully changing lanes), able to pinch hit in the ruck and block their outlets from our D50, he will be very valuable for us. It is really a role that we don’t have at the moment, and he may even act as a high HF at times able to mark and deliver into 50. Our marking through this part of the ground has been a real deficit, so it make huge sense we should go after this type of player, and better that he is a good clubman, and has a solid tank. Perhaps rather than look at what he didn’t bring to GWS, have a look at what he can specifically add to MFC?

  27. Criticisms of Viney's position are a bit churlish. His score (323) has an extra element of his leadership role, which we can't rate. Without that element he probably would have been below Harmes (319) and Petracca (293). You could say Viney, Harmes and Petracca were about equal. Sounds right to me as the difference between their scores is miniscule over 22 weeks. I'm delightfully surprised with Fritsch's performance and I thought Salem's year was better than the scores show. Well done to Max and Clarrie.

  28. Correct me if I am wrong... but the Bluey Truscott Trophy represents how a MFC player fares when compared to other MFC players throughout the season as judged by the coaching panel, right? Jayden Hunt was one goal from being our leading goalkicker and had the most goal assists... so he compares favourably with other MFC forwards... no big surprise that he finishes top 10!

  32. Personally I'm really looking forward to his 2020. Has carried a weight on his shoulders for better part of a decade and has never had an 'easy' time. Not least among his burdens is the role at lightning rod the the kind of embittered snark-addicts that can post foul-spirited comments upon hearing of one of the great stalwarts of the club stepping down as captain. Nobody who shows that kind of basic disrespect to a club leader should be permitted to ever complain about club culture again. I hope a properly honored 300-game milestone is in order for Jones, as he refreshes himself making a solid contribution in a resurgent team.

  33. The first involvement was dumb luck, the second had me holding my head in despair as it was a blatant free kick against Frost that miraculously wasn't paid. He is a deadset liability.

  34. I think Petracca cops a lot of unfair critisism. this season he was ranked in the top 5 general forwards all year, and right up the pointy end for forward half ground ball gets and scoring assists. fair effort in a team that finished 17th. he's doing fine. as his tank builds he'll spend more time in the middle but i think often what he does goes unnoticed which is unfortunate

  35. Is the single word sentence at the end meant to be confirmation of who the right Christian is? Or is this some sort of clue for religious cryptic crossword fans? Or just maybe it's an inadvertent pun. And all from someone with the angelic name of "Seraph". Gets my vote for Demonland post of the year, even if I don't fully understand it.

  38. We won't take a Pick 3. We'll trade for a couple of lower first round picks (or some kind of combo with later picks). Apart from anything else, we need to find a mid second-rounder for Langdon.

  42. Puts it all on the line every time, never shirks an issue! Attack on the ball is second to none. Toughness in the clinches is as good as it gets. Never a sniper... always there for team mates! What blindness is this that has descended on Demonland?

  43. What a fantastic speech by Max. A real leaders speech. If he isn’t made Co Captain next year it will be the greatest farce ever.

  45. Terrible, honestly [censored] terrible. Buckley and Hardwick were the same until they learned to loosen up and actually speak like an actual human. Goodwin won’t connect with the young players talking like that. He needs to connect with the younger generation like I do, throw in some ‘radicals’ and ‘groovy’s’ and refer to things as being ‘hip’. Then they’ll think he’s cool and he’ll get their attention.

All power to you on that part Mr Jones. A great clubman and probably a good call for all, in the best interests of club & team mates. Let's hope 2020 brings a year in complete contrast to this one for his & everyone's sake involved.

  49. For any DL posters who started reading DL after we traded in Melk and Hibberd the threads about them prior to being traded in are well worth a read in the context of getting in Tomlinson, who don't have to give up any draft picks for. Spoiler alert: some were dead against getting them and many people thought we gave up too high draft picks for them
