  1. I know he doesn'tplay for us anymore, but just saw that Hogan has been ruled out for the remainder of the year due to a recurring injury to his navicular.. Poor bloke just cant take a trick. I really do hope his mental well being is well looked after by the dockers. My understanding was after he did his injury last year it really rocked him on an emotional point of view after watching us go deep into September. All the best Hoges.

  4. Funny how the loudest voices belong to the fattest whitest most privileged men. A sad reflection of our society and its tendency to stick its head in the sand when it comes to looking in the mirror and acknowledging your wrongness. Imagine if this was happening to Jetta. What an utter disgrace this period was, and how heartbreaking that Goodes retired under this cloud of racism instead of with the grand celebration his career deserved.

  5. If anyone's heading up for the game and plans to attend the open training, please consider sticking around to lend some support for the VFLW girls. They're far from home! We're playing NT Thunder who have some of the best from Adelaide's premiership side. For Casey, it's a must-win game and they've named the maximum 12 AFLW-listed players in the team for the first time this season. Fingers crossed for both games!

  7. We've been so crap this year and our injury list huge I'd forgotten how bad our team selection panel is. Cost us games last year and continues to be terrible, what J Wagner offers at this stage in front of Baker or T.Smith even JKH is a mystery

  8. 22 and dry in the Alice on Sunday. I'd like to see us stretch the Eagles defence with Pruess,Smith and Petty. Then Petracca gets a smaller defender and if we play smart we can isolate him in one on one contests

  9. Agree, I have had no issues with him ever but Mark Robinson take a bloody bow! From day dot he was such a strong supporter for Goodesy and loved how he stood up to Nathan Buckley. Did anyone notice the hypocrisy from Buckley? Mentioned that we shouldnt be speaking about the booing of Goodes and tried to sweep it under the carpet, yet gets up on Anazac day match ceremony and has a sook that we shouldn't be booing a champion in Pendlebury.. [censored] off Buckley! Collingwood.. what a club hey.

  10. You have to shake your head with the Fossil, Sam. At one point he lists the various days celebrating minorities like the indigenous or same sex people and then asks as a WASP male when is it my time! Sam when it has never been your time you dolt! Look at your life, private school education, 300 games of elite sport, millions earned in the media as a so called footy expert and character, come sporting legend. Sam it has always been about you! For a guy who achieved so much he has the IQ of a peanut.

  12. Plough is the only media person who gets it. Lack of fitness and team synergy as result of a third of the list having curtailed pre seasons. Injuries during tbe seaon. Rgese issues compounded by not having ggood depth (which is insurpriding given where we have come from - tbe only clubs with good deprh are those thst have bee n a round tge 8 for decade, and gws). This is the key cause of our issues in a nutshell. Not the only cause. And there is certainly the risk of the issues covering other ones. But none the less they are the key issues. Not rocket science and as I say plough is the only media person who I have heard be consistent on this.

  13. Listen I've bit my tongue for 5 months now but this (like your the club will never move forward till everyone involved with 186 is gone) is ridiculous. You are one of the many who lives in the past moaning about your sad 55 years following the club, let me set you straight this playing group has nothing to do with the past They are not haunted by Norm Smith 186 is nothing to them now, (it would if anything made the Elimination final win a little more enjoyable for Chunk Gawn and anyone else who was on the list) The Neeld years The only legacy the past has on this list is the void caused by poor drafting in between the Danners and Neeld eras The players will be well and truly over the Prelim final loss or did you miss Bakers debut at Optus when we kicked ourselves out of the game. This weeks game has nothing to do with last season BB is somewhat right about being run into the ground at the end of the season but they went for broke and fell short. You roll the dice and this is where we are at, seasoned players get conditioned to that I anticipate the old " You just accept mediocrity" response but you couldn't be further from the truth. mark this down. Until the core of Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes, Weid, Trac, Lever, Spargo, Frost, Baker, Salem, Pruess, Gawn, Hannan, Hore and Petty get a decent spread of between 80-150 games across them and Viney, May, Tmac, Melksham start pushing 150+ we will not see consistent top 4 contention over successive years. Others will come in and out but that is the core moving forward for sustained contention. It's the legacy left because of the recruiting mistakes which left the void

  19. I get what you’re saying, but just because you haven’t experienced something personally doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know better. Nobody has ever attacked my sexual orientation but I know it’s wrong. Nobody has ever abused me for having dark skin, but I know it’s wrong. In this day and age to pretend that people “didn’t know” booing Goodes was racially motivated is just a cop out. Like someone said in the documentary last night, we want these indigenous players to kick mercurial goals and shut up. I don’t see anyone booing Houli for speaking about his cultural heritage, but as soon as Goodes pointed out the racial vilification and used his platform to try and promote indigenous rights, he was attacked. Not for a week, or a month, but for almost 2 years until it broke him and he had to give up everything he has worked for and walk away. Sorry I don’t mean to attack you at all with this post. I know exactly what you mean. I just think that too often people say “I didn’t know” and think it’s a valid excuse. Lots of Germans said the same thing about the Holocaust too.

  21. An excellent, thought-provoking documentary. If people haven't seen it, I strongly recommend they do. While it's clearly football-related, it's the bigger picture about society, privilege and those that have a voice and how they use (or mis-use) it, that's most interesting. And it's probably worth pointing out that while there are some people mainly in the media - who come out of this badly, there are a few who deserve to be recognised for the positive roles they played. I'm not normally his greatest fan, but Mark Robinson was terrific as was Kelly Underwood. And possibly not properly noticed was Luke Darcy trying to stop Eddie McGuire from making a fool of himself.

  25. Last time we played in Alice Springs we won by 91 points with Angus Brayshaw BOG with 37 touches and 3 goals. ANB got the 3 brownlow votes with 3 goals and 23 touches. I'm expecting much the same this weekend.

  26. I see fatigue as a factor, not in the sense that game plan induces fatigue more readily than any other, moreso our players are young, and they were up for 6-8 weeks Goodwin wont change the style, merely to adapt to who we have on the park (or who we dont).... They and the FD would have hoped for better this year... and knowing the nuances understand that with limited prep and all the injuries...then the year was to play out poorly, which isn't a reason in itself to change the course of building a system with continuity. He and the FD can willingly write this year off - and are still playing the game over the next few years. I'll repeat, Goodwin's style isn't anymore fatiguing than any other. They all have to run, and they all get smashed.

  27. Nah. I usually respect a fair amount of what the Derm brings but IMHO he is off on this as far as Clarry is concerned. Clarry is our number 1 tackler so far this season (tackle average 6.31) and No.1 last year (6.77). Ranked No.1 for us in pressure acts averages (24). Ranked in the top 10 in the AFL this season for tackle averages (10th overall) and 13th in pressure acts!!! If he has issues in this area then i'm Uncle Bitter's uncle! Inside 50 Clarry is ranked 9th (1.19) and ranked 4th overall last year (1.09). Pretty good results given the amount of ground this bloke covers and the amount of contests he impacts. To put that in some perspective Tracc has spent a stack more time inside 50 and his results from 2019? ..... ranked 8th (1.25) and 2018? .... 21st! (0.48). Ok, Gus sitting @ 10th (3.44) has dropped off a little, having finished 6th for us in 2018 (4.68). Ranked 153rd in the AFL. Maybe an under done tank this season and/or lack of leg speed (bit of both)....just can't quite get to opponents often enough to lay a bloody tackle. So yes, plenty of room for improvement and Derm might have this one correct but did Gus come into 2019 with any niggles? Can't recall someone might remind me? Dunkley presently our 2nd best for tackle averages inside 50 (2.00), albeit off a small sample. Just behind Jeffy at No.1 (2.29)! Jeffy is No.1 in the AFL also this season and Dunkley No.4! Doubt he'll be dropped this week just on that strength alone ? As an aside Tim Smith sits at 14th in the AFL and 3rd for us (1.67), more than likely part of the reason the coach & FD will be bringing him back this week aside from the fact we presently don't have a genuine key tall forward running around.

  28. Nah he wasn't, which made it even more impressive from a leadership perspective. He could have just mentally checked out and gone into celebration mode for his last few games, but instead he's focused on trying to set up our culture and future. Deserves better treatment from some Dees fans than he gets.

  31. Outside of Rowell, Anderson, Kemp, the other mooted too options are Serong, Ash, Young. Serong was good as a small forward last year, then good playing midfield this year. He’s similar in play style and attributes to Robbie Gray and looks a safe prospect. He seems very driven which I like. Ash I’ve spoken about. His pace is elite, his kicking long and short is elite, but he has really low contested number compared to all other potential high picks and that worries me. Historically players with low contested counts at lower level don’t make the grade at afl level. Young is one that insiders say is climbing the rankings potentially as high as pick 2-3. He plays alongside Ash and they form a decent pairing. He’s just good at most parts of the game, though his pace is a level down from Ash’s. His long kicking is elite. His ability to move into midfield and play inside was decent, and in my mind that puts him ahead of Ash. Still hoping for Anderson!

  32. As said by several here, Gil believes he is administering an entertainment experience. Not a sporting competition. Everything is about making it more attractive on TV. Faster paced, more goals, etc. But his attempts to do so are like introducing cane toads to kill the cane beetle. They backfire and then create a bigger problem. However, I expect Gil would say "where's the problem? Have you seen the tremendous numbers of cane toads? We must be doing something right!" He would be more at home in Hollywood working on the Star Wars series of movies.

  33. It doesn’t matter who you drop them for, because you’re dropping them to send a loud and clear message to improve. That message is louder & clearer if you drop them for an obviously less talented player, but one that busts his guts and gives you all he’s got.

  34. this year clarrie is still averaging about the same possessions, tackles and contested possessions.......but i reckon his effectiveness and decision making is definitely down this year.......in his defence he seems to be tagged more (often illegally) and we must remember he had come off two shoulder operations which limited his pre-season however, any talk of dropping him is just nonsensical

  35. Listened to it in its full context, he was on the money and he was cautious in his approach very much talking about the now, he was glowing in his future expectations of Clarrie and Gus

  36. The most uniquely gifted and instinctive forward I have seen in 60 years of watching footy. All teams. He made it without "silver service" lace out delivery from upfield by relying on his rare natural ability alone. Jacca, Garry, Duke, Darren B all in the same team. There has never been a more talented Demon forward line but injury to Jacca and Garry brought them down. Agree with Spud - if only. Alas.
