  2. Well done Frosty. Keep sticking it up the haters & the doubters. Played on their talls as well as Walters at various times and was terrific. Doubtless, the haters will only focus on the 2 mistakes instead of the 10 positives.

  3. How good was Frosty today! Great game by him and Petty has a future don’t you worry.

  4. Dumb and all as it was... It was better than the first game against Port where we stood by and watched Max cop it from them without a whimper. At least we had some passion in the game and Jones was supporting a teammate. If I had my choice I would take this.

  7. Apart from the obvious good players I loved Frosts game, especially in the second half. Will be a weapon in combo with May and Lever.

  10. Petracca had a great game today. Really got involved and threw his weight around. Great to see him switched on for longer periods and staying involved. Hopefully this is the start of his return to damaging form.

  11. I’m rapt with the win today. Great to see some of the boys finding some form. This is the first home game I have missed all season (??) but it’s given me some hope for the remaining games. Go Dees ❤️?

  12. Spoke to MCC/MFC members before the game. I didn't take notes so I'm completely paraphrasing here. Robbo: 'Hasn't Goody being listening to you. Jennings: He's been listening. R: Freo? J: A good side with a lot of solid role players a handful of excellent players. Fyfe, Walters, Hill and a guy who doesn't get talked about but was in the paper today - Luke Ryan. They are excellent players. (Note: Harmes to Fyfe, Viney to Walters, Rotating wings on Hill and Smith to Ryan - they took them seriously) R: What's been going wrong J: We had sessions with 12 fit players over summer R: Coaching changes? J: Goody doesn't want to wait for changes at the end of the year, made them now. R: Forward line? J: Most of the other things have been looking good but the forward line has struggled, we'll look at more changes. Suggests we'd have won more games with better accuracy. Briefly mentioned a goal kicking coach R: Finally, What do you expect/want to see out there today? J: I want to see some Freo bodies hit the deck Old man heckling: How about some goals.

  17. Was interesting to see May barking at the players in the back 50 and setting them up from all standing bunched together. Just need to focus on the younger players and hope like hell they learn to settle and calmly hit their target.

  26. I was near the fence when that happened although I don't know what the fans said to Tommy. He threw up his hands and replied something. I watched him all game and felt his frustration with the holding on him by the Freo defenders when down the other end of the ground the Freo forwards were getting spoilt by the umpires and being given soft free kicks. Could feel his anger growing as the game went on and even saw him saying something to the umpire at one stage. But to his credit Tom used his anger in the best possible way and responded by taking some good marks and kicking the goals. After that he appeared to walk taller when he got some confidence back in his game. I was very happy to see this. Happy for him, and happy for us, of course! Perhaps the fresh input of Rawlings has helped him in this regard? Hope he keeps it up. Well done today.

  27. Good win today! Behind at every change but showed real character to pull it off. I don’t care where you are on the ladder is there anything better than going to the g on a Saturday afternoon and getting a win! Plenty of good performances. For the first time in ages we all had to leave good ones out of the DL voting. Viney was immense today and I thought Gawn was serviceable in the first half before really taking over in the second. Harmes sacrificed his game a bit to slow down Fyfe who was just rinsing us in the first half. Jay Lockhart, I just love a kid that comes in and still has the head bobble. No complications just see ball, get it, kick it towards goal through the big sticks. Sam Frost is working his way into some rich form, seemed to go pretty hard at it today, but could also just be his haircut. I definitely saw a turn in confidence and willingness to go with the first option more today. Ok we benefited from Freo losing man power but we did what we needed to do and transitioned the ball very well in that last quarter. Bravo Dees, let’s build on this!

  28. Well credit to Rawlings. This was the least dysfunctional our forwardline has looked all year.

  29. Well there you go. Didn’t go today due to disinterest after seeing six losses live this year and having 2 x 5 year old kids parties to attend. I had to remove myself to the front yard at the second party after I shouted ‘PLUGGER MCDONALD!’ during ‘pin the horn on the unicorn’ (metaphorically sums up TMac’s attempts at finding form this year, really) as I hovered in the corner refreshing the afl app. Now the kiddies are crashed out, couch time and replay. Nice win Dees, now let’s finish the year stronger and build towards 2020 ??

  30. I just want to say that Nathan Jones has got some good footy to play yet. Today's game was a tough affair and needed some of us to stand up and lead from the front and he certainly did that when it counted. He went through Walters with a hip and shoulder and gave the free and a 50 away when he didn't need to do. The 50 wasn't there IMO However he was backing Lockhart for a hit he took from Walters the thug. Jone did his job today and did it well.

  31. One of our biggest weaknesses is on field leadership and organization. We got Lever and May not only for their footballing ability, but because they’re leaders and generals. Great to see May organizing troops and playing well again today. He’ll be a huge asset for the backline for the next few years. Love him!

  34. Regardless of the other teams injuries, that was a great win considering our record this year, particularly at the MCG. Back that up Tommy. Just back it up. God that feels great. *raises glass

  35. Haha. What a classic stereotypical happy-go-lucky Melbourne supporter comment. People love to hate him because he plays a team role? Intriguing. He is fairly criticised when he butchers the ball, fumbles the ball and has very little to no impact at the contest. His performances this year have displayed those weakness areas and his demotions from the team are evidence. It doesn't matter if you're as fit as Craig Motram and can run up and down the ground all day if you're constantly making errors with the ball or not impacting when near it.

  36. Every time our player had a set shot, he took his time with his set-up routine. No rushing and the goals/points reflects the calmness. Was rapt for Max to kick his 4th qtr goal. He always sprays it left and I was praying for him to steer it right. He did but at one stage it looked too far right but it managed to squeeze thru. Nearly all our fwds did good things. Great for their collective confidence. Sam's marking was very good as was his shepherding and competitive play and took a superb mark in the last qtr.

  38. TMac that goal from right on 50 was one sensational goal You kicked from 55 metres out and sailed right over the goal umpire another 15 metres. The crowd was out of their seats with joy and cheering so loud that if it was last week the security would have escorted all of us out. IF THEY COULD! TMacs 3 goals in the second half finishing with 28 poss and 7 marks.

  39. We really ground that one out well. We were utterly hopeless at times in the first half and a bit, but finally got our act together lead by Oliver and Gawn. Lockhart is a gem too. The cleanest first year player in a Melbourne jumper since Oliver started. Makes the right decisions and FCS, kicks to the advantage of his other forwards. Steven May's game, in particular, his last ten minutes, was instrumental. He's going to be a beauty for us. Can't wait to get Lever back in there next to him. Our midfield's defensive transition still needs so much work. We get cut up far too easily. If there's one player that was emblematic of today's game it was Tom McDonald. Untidy, a game littered with often terrible decision making and skill execution, but finally managed to get things working in the last quarter and a bit. Some will point to the fact that he was one of our leading disposal getters all day, which is true, but he was laughable in the first half. It was great to see him turn it around in the last though. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Finally, it was interesting to note how many uncontested possessions we had today. I wonder if it's a hint at a new direction? I'd like to see us switch it a whole lot more. May's penetrating kicking will be helpful in this respect.

  40. Just of late, Petracca seems to have developed a footy IQ. I've been negative about him for a little while now but there are small signs in regards to getting into the right spot, making smart decisions and not trying to do too much in possession.

  41. Didn't mean to put a downer on it for you guys who watch for the wins in pointless games in failed seasons. Enjoy it. Just my opinion that we were fortunate with their injuries. Obviously a win is a good outcome.
