Matters little where they rank us. Fact is we were the highest scoring team by nearly 20 goals last year. Yes we lose some goals from Hogan but we will leak far less goals in defence this year to compensate and we'll get more goals from Weed. Our premiership window is wide open.5 points

I would have Harmes breakout season in front of the other 9. I suspect Joel Selwood, Rory Sloane, and Josh Kelly agree with me.4 points

Forward schmorward. When the back six with May and Lever clicks there are going to be some teams that kick some very low scores against us. Add in a midfield group that supplies more inside 50’s than any other in the comp and you could have Humphrey B Bear standing at full forward and we will still kick goals. But the fact is we actually have more forward talent than most other clubs; McDonald, Melksham, Petracca, ANB, the Weid... But defence wins premierships and we are going to have a ripper.3 points

Not sure that you need to have the best forward line in the comp if you have one of the best midfields. I think the Brisbane Lyons team of the early 2000s was in this kind of position and it worked out pretty well for them.3 points

And Peter Walsh was the Little Red Fire Engine. I am Big Kev because Stephen Tingay autographed one of my Demons Caps as To Big Kev, since then that cap has been signed by Robert Flower (RIP), Steven Armstrong and Nathan Jones.2 points

Toe exercises. If he wasn’t able to do them I’d be worried but instead I’m happy to see a proactive measure that’s clearly aimed at mitigation of re-injury.2 points

Good luck Macca. I’ll be trying my luck later with the exotics in the race. Will definitely have ‘Perfect Jewel’ in there, represents great value. Hopefully we will go back to back with our picks. Chose the multiplier with Tab last night and it boosted my odds by x1.05?, adding 63.5 cents to the odds.2 points

Forward line is a concern for me. If Tom McDonald isn’t right, I guess Preuss will be the tall target deep. A little concerned about McDonald as he seems to be having trouble with his big toe again. Go see Petraccas Instagram to see what I am talking about. I think we will improve if guys like Spargo the Weed can take their game to the next level. Getting Hannan going and consistently contributing will improve the functionality of the forward line. We were better upnforward without Hogan, so it doesn’t bother me that he has gone. It will be an interesting start to the year to see how we shape up.2 points

I've had an exacta in the race DZ and have included the top 3 in the market as well as Cappo D'oro (overs at 25-1?) on top for a bit of value ... also included Khartoum, Elegant Blast & Perfect Jewel in for 2nd to hopefully boost up the dividend. I'm quite confident of getting it but am obviously looking for the right combination. 'Gatting' (which has drawn wide) and 'Action' will probably both be coming from the back so they both might need luck in the running. By contrast, 'Mississippi Delta' seems to have drawn well in 6. Should be a good race. Here's the field2 points

Thoughts on the Perth Cup @Macca? I see El’s stablemate ‘Khartoum’ is hunting Cup glory over in the West. Keeping it safe around $13, although it was tough win last week I just can’t see it winning today but I’m often wrong.2 points

It's nice in a way to have all this positive publicity and kind opinions from the press, but there is only one ranking I care about and that's the one that a team achieves by winning on grand final day.2 points

Coincidentally a double acronym: This is Melbourne (in English) Want a Flag (in Transylvanian). Obvious, really.2 points

Some of my friends (and quite likely some not so friendly observers at matches) seem to believe, for some very strange reason, that I am just a little one eyed about the amazing mighty Demons. And it was not until a while after I registered that it was pointed out, interestingly by an optometrist, that I couldn’t spell?2 points

During a heavy day with the lads at a pub early 2000's I was watching one of Troy Broadbridge's early awkward games and after a surprising piece of play yelled at the TV "go you big red fire engine". I followed him with curiosity during his early time at Sandy and across his 40 games for the MFC. I joined this site the year after his passing and it just felt right at the time as a reminder that there is so much more than football.2 points

I had just returned from a Qld holiday when I signed up to demonland and I thought Queensland ... pineapples... why not ' Pineapple dee ' ? Plus my wife thinks I'm a bit of a pineapple. And how does that old expression go ? "The answer is a pineapple "2 points

not quite as obvious as it sounds .... blew the head gasket on my first car - a 1976 Corolla, by trying to catch and follow a certain bogan cult figure of the early-mid 90's whose number plate read JAKO13 while driving along the wonderful dump of the then South Eastern Arterial... was stoked at the time to see him - got the old [censored] heap of a car to 130 clicks.... and it died2 points

I’m quite proud of my display pic. It’s what should have been in 2000. I got it from a friend who got it from someone at the Herald Sun.2 points

I am not saying it wasn’t a dog act. It was. But the camera angle i saw on TV Bugg was breaking a loose tackle and let go. If you saw it at the ground, you may have seen more than i did. It still doesn’t change my opinion that Gaff’s hit was far worse and he should have been charged with assault (like Matthews in ‘85. It amazes me that the media have “forgiven” Gaff but couldn’t give a dam about Bugg.1 point

Correct. It was every bit as bad as Gaff but without the obvious outward signs of blood etc.1 point

Note to self ... always include all Bob Peters runners in any exotic out of Perth! Also, 'Star Exhibit' was the 2nd highest rated horse in the race but was only carrying 55kg. But fair play to the horse and jockey though (Peter Hall) Ran down Action and on one of the camera angles there was a look of mild astonishment from Willie Pike as Star Exhibit loomed large! Can't win 'em all hey DZ! The Perth Cup kind of closes off the year for me although it starts all over again with the Magic Millions next week. Always a tricky card but there are some class horses in a number of the fields. Exacta's only at this time of the year is my preference. Trying to find straight out winners is very difficult and trifectas are tough to get too ... although, in terms of winners we've gone 3 from 4 and a 2nd in the last 2 weekends on the ADATR thread.1 point

Correct, some of them are extremely hard to read now, but I know who signed it.1 point

All these superstar sportsman creditors that are owed thousands for fees for posting a few 20 min videos - cry me a river, how are the going to pay to put caviar on the table for their families to eat and afford the mortgage repayments on their Ferrari's and Toorack mansions (I do feel somewhat more empathy towards the Olympic athletes etc. that may be more genuinely needing some additional income). On the other hand it's also pretty poor form by the main business owners/managers of this enterprise. It does somewhat astound me that some of these people are pretty much ammune to the same rules of life that govern the rest of us. They clearly must have seen a fair way out that their business was going down the toilet, but we're probably more interested in syphoning what funds they could into their's and their spouse's inflated saleries and then onwards on to untouchable family trusts than they were about minimizing the losses to anyone that actually invested real money and services into their venture.1 point

Watching Australia play India is like watching a district team playing a Test team. Dont be too confident about Sri Lanka..... let alone the Poms.1 point

I'll have a go at 2 this week @Dee Zephyr as part of our 3pick (?) Nice wide-buffer with the margins in my 2 choices so here's hoping! NFL Monday $2.60 Baltimore (1-13) vs LA Chargers $2.40 Chicago (1-13) vs Philadelphia1 point

Just thought I would bump this thread and mention a couple of things being discussed on the whirlpool forum (link in post above) now at 170 pages. Still no android app for your television so one needs to use a device to stream it to your TV. (It was suggested that the TV app would be out by the end of 2018.) On the AFL coverage it seems that it will be the coverage that was available on Foxtel Now and not the Foxtel set top box coverage. This means when Channel 7 shows a match you get their feed and I assume the replay is delayed. Lots of talk about connectivity but in the main most seem happy with the streaming quality. A few complaints about the What's on capability and how it can be difficult to browse between the multiple offerings.1 point

I was concerned with Lamborghini DZ and the horse has now beaten Creedence at its last 2 starts. Anyway, 'Heart Conquered' salutes ... another winner for you DZ. You're in good form! With all the scratchings I'm surprised HC drifted in the market though. 2: 1 - 1 - 0 for the day so our strike rate is slowly but surely improving. I think your memory is failing on this one. He was front on and it was no back hander. Punched him smack on the chin. The only difference was he did not break teeth or jaw.1 point

I like Bugg, and I wish him well at Carlton. He had limitations as a player, but he seemed to run hard (both ways), and always seemed respectful about, and appreciative for, his time at the Dees. He also seemed genuinely remorseful for the incident with Mills. To put the boot into this dude on the way out is tres ordinaire.1 point

Well I agree with the initial poster. Pedo when given the chance was a good player for us. And when guys like Watts and Hogan were dancing around the contest getting games I just wanted Pedo to play. Was never really given a fair go in the last couple of seasons by the coaches but there's no doubt Pedo is twice the player of Tim Smith.1 point

Have a look at Aussie Broadband OD. The guys on the whirlpool forum where they discuss these topics swear by it. Should not cost you any more than your present ADSL. The big plus of Aussie Broadband is that they severely limit their user to CVC (connections to the NBN) ratio as compared to many other users. Try the 25mbs plan and see if that gives you enough speed. $55 per month. Enjoy the day mate1 point
