  1. Another good session Standouts today in the running sessions apart from the usual suspects were Harry Petty who has put on some size and the Weid Goodwin, who didn't take the session, Pert and Mahoney in attendance Austin Bradtke did most of the session same with Guy Walker, neither missed a kick which was encouraging Couldn't take the smile from Bradtke's face during the session as you can see from the photo, said he is loving it, told him I will ask same question in February Preuss has the weirdest kicking action I have seen, and have seen some doozies in last 10 years of MFC training, but is accurate passing over all distances

  3. Hunt was the only rehabber, no sign of Lever No Salem, JKH, Omac or Viney from Monday Jones was there, of course, he was doing repeat runs in the middle of the oval, like watching a machine, no change of style, speed etc from start to finish An interesting observation, the repeat running they do is timed, they have to try and maintain same time or thereabouts for each run, Preuss told one of the fitness guys he hadn't done timed runs before and didn't know how to pace himself

  5. Seems like they've been listening to the ghost of Jack Dyer: "Line up alphabetically by height".

  6. Watched a few Casey games this year thought he was great, listened to quite a few more and his name was always prominent. Young, skilled, B&F @ Casey, knows the club... Why wouldn't you spend very little on a player like that?

  7. Actually it would improve the park for locals as: a) training would only be 5-6 hours per week (c.f. extended times when used for event parking and locals cannot access it); b) we would maintain the oval and it would not be fenced off (c.f. Richmond F.C.) making it available for dog walkers morning and evening etc; c) the proposed internal facilities (such as netball/basketball courts) would be available for local (youth) teams who have to rely on schools etc; d) the area would be available and accessible for locals on event days (c.f. at present when it is used for event parking)!

  8. I'd prefer to reserve my judgement on any player like Corey and give them a chance without making instant prognostications. A few years ago we might have said that about James Harmes and Neville Jetta.,

  9. Probably because we have several inside midfielders on our list. If he has come back to full fitness, i wouldn't hesitate to draft him. After all, we did lose Tyson and Jones is getting long in the tooth and you can never have too much quality. Need to keep the midfield age profile well spread too.

  10. We might as well just delist him now based on Chazz’s appraisal. Obviously has no future. I understand the position, by the way; the evidence supports his assertion that players who get spat out don’t usually make it. I reject it though. I don’t see how he’s any different to any other ‘mature’ player, such as Michael Barlow, Aaron Vandenberg, Tim Kelly and so forth, who mature later and continue to develop as players in to their 20s and have successful AFL careers. The fact that he’s been on an AFL list before is irrelevant - not ready then doesn’t equal not ready now. As a 21 year old recruit, he’s clearly been picked due to his potential for development to be more than just a depth player. I am far more open minded about his prospects.

  12. The proposal for the new building is 100% on the rail reservation with no encroachment onto Yarra Park! As for the oval, what it will mean is that the area will be curated grassland available to the public all except for 5-6 hours training per week (which fall between the most popular early morning late afternoon dog walking hours)! Currently, with event parking and events themselves, public access is compromised/denied for more hours than that. I think my fellow residents should take their blinkers off and think this through!

  14. I suspect the lack of foresight wasn't the only problem. I presume we would have had insufficient financial resources to do anything there anyway.

  15. All the basics are there, will post a photo next it has Weid, Gawn, Preuss Petty, Keilty and you can make out Bradtke head in middle so gives idea of Preuss and him

  16. Maybe we weren't asking for enough in the first place. Perhaps we should have added a Formula 1 track to Yarra Park and to raise the railway to a Skyrail to the plans and then agreed to a mediated compromise by removing the F1 component and the Skyrail. Isn't that the way politics is meant to work?

  17. This is what i don't get with these NIMBY's. They hide behind their mantra of protecting the local parkland, yet low and behold, there is this massive structure (MCG) smack bang in the middle of it. How space for another open oval would detract from Yarra Park is completely beyond me. If anything, it would smarten the place up, providing an accessible oval for local residents to use outside of training times. I guess our fall back position could be just training on the G ?

  18. As a bigger picture strategy, by giving opportunities to players who show great Casey form to get on our AFL list we are going to encourage higher quality players to come to Casey and benefit from our MFC/Casey development and structures. It will be interesting to see what happens with Jay Lockhart in this year's draft.

  19. @Nick_Bowen Former Kangaroo small forward Corey Wagner expected to get to Melbourne under new pre-season selection rule I didn't see much of Corey this year but the Casey Demons have mentioned he's been a good player down there. I know some of his games he was winning big numbers in the midfield. Outside midfielder who has a big motor and can see him slotting in well on the wing position.

  20. Wow. Yes updated Twomey has MFC grabbing O’halloran who is my #1 target. Ely Smith is the bolter for Twomey. O’Halloran suits us perfectly. A classy mid. Then next pick we could grab McKenzie, Hamill, Turner or Kennerley.

  21. We have an oval already right in the middle of Yarra Park. It's called the MCG. It's our home ground. That's where we should train.

  22. Who does he follow? Should ban them all from the MCG.

  24. Young Bradtke has been on the club's books for several months now so despite the fact that he wasn't able to train until now, I am somewhat disappointed at the absence of a beard. Come on Max - teach the kid!

  25. McVay, I think is a very smart guy who knew his strength and knew his weakness. He bows to Phillips for now a bit but is learning that side of the game. I think McVay is smart enough to mould his play calling to what he has, Fisher had the same game plan every single game every single year. But Fisher was also 1yrd away from winning the 2000SB vs the Rams. He relied on his D to win games, McVay is using a same set offence to run nearly every single play.

  26. We had our chance in 2000 and blew it badly. We showed no foresight back then and ae now paying for it BIG TIME. The only way forward as i see it is to build our own facility at Gosch’s Park...

  27. Also, East Melbourne residents and many others are concerned about the increasing loss of public land, particularly park land. These days, many want parkland for passive recreation rather than ovals and other sports facilities. This view extends out into the burbs.Councils and town planners talk about passive recreation being more important than sports facilities. Rightly, they are cynical of any promises made by politicians and vested interests and see any proposal as the thin end of the wedge. Its not just what it starts out as, but what it ends up being, together with the flow-on consequences. With Yarra Park, there has been an increase of games and other events at the MCG during the day, evening and night. When the light towers went up, the residents only expected to have to put up with Friday night games and occasional other night games. At the time, there was strong opposition to the light towers from residents and community groups and they felt that assurances from Government and the MCC at the time turned out to be false and misleading. There is also general community concern about the encroachment of buildings and facilities on public land. Look no further than Royal Park, Albert Park, Olympic Park and Flinders Park.

  28. I'm definitely good with the idea of trading a 2019 first rounder for a late-ish 2018 (say mid teens) and possible swap of our pick 28 to enable us to potentially pick 3 players before bidding for Toby Bedford. Not sure if this can be arranged but it would definitely add interest for tomorrow night/Friday morning.

  30. Spot on, 'Balls! Frost should be our CHB in the new structural order. He is a genetic mirror in the learning of May's game and thus, a great link man for May's game, Jetta's challenge and, run and carry, Lever's intercept, HIbberd's rebound. Better still, Frosty is getting better at almost everything needed and his run and carry is less easily intercepted, interrupted and interpreted. He is a boomer kick for clearances and a quick re-setting of the backline. If he was doing these things pretty well (love the understatement that you have used) then he is going to do these things bloody well in 2019.

  32. Ok , my mistake. Lets take them for that weekend then. Some weird results in the soccer?......Belgium scoring the first 2 goals then losing 5-2? Talk about asleep at the wheel! Dont they say a 2-0 lead is the worst score in football or something?

  33. Yes this is almost a mirror of my post under Bailey Williams. I was hoping for Williams but Taylor’s comments reflect we will target young midfielders. Ely Smith is interesting. Clearance kick. Handballs rather than kicks to create. With Viney and Oliver and then Smith, we would rule the contested clearances. Hoping for class of O’halloran and then pace of McKenzie.

  34. Welcome Wags now head down and bum up. He is definitely better than his brother but that doesn't mean he'll be playing senior football any time soon. Good luck don't let a second chance pass.

  35. Got to add Billy Stretch to that list, I think if he is over his navicular problem he will probably get first crack and I also think/hope Baker may push for a spot this year. I liked Corey whenever I got to see Casey, he is probably behind a few but agree he will offer genuine competition for a spot.

  36. As for the $1Million Railway Stakes to be held at Ascot (WA) on Saturday, here is the field after the barrier draw. Willie Pike is on the favourite 'Galaxy Star' but the race is a very open affair and therefore a good betting race. Material Man is good odds as are a few others.

  37. He's the better of the two Wagner boys. Perfect option for a rookie spot, won a VFL BnF for our affiliate club in Casey and therefore he knows the club, players, coaching staff and gameplan.

  41. Agree, we haven't really been tested too much injury wise over the past two seasons. The one period when we really were around the mid way point of 2017 when we lost Jones, Viney eventually (probably playing when he shouldn't have), one or two others and our season really slumped at that point. With good depth we can rest more players when they really need it and even those one or two extra wins that it might win us in a season could be the difference between finishing 4th instead of 6th etc.

  42. not at all. currently labor seem to be sympathetic. if they stay in power the odds shorten in our favour. richmond council or any other local authority don't have any definitive say in the decision

  43. Tend to agree, although I think Tyson's spot is there for the taking. One of Kolodjashnij or Hunt could step straight in, but Wagner could keep them honest. Probably better suited to that role than Tyson in a direct comparison.
