  1. So apparently Bernie has put a full time real estate career on hold to accept some sort of role with the MFC next year. ...filling the water bottles according to the man himself. Good news. I recon Bernie would make a great water boy. A real win for team moral and culture.

  2. Take it as you will but May was having beers with Gawn (and other Melb players) after the Brownlow and said that he wants in at Melbourne next year. Feeling was that Hogan is gone but wasn’t sure how the trade would be done. This comes from a reliable source and we are trying to manage how we can maximise on the trade.

  3. Apologies for my insincere comments, I didn’t realise his old man had passed away. I should have read the article and not just the headline. I have deleted my post

  4. I have it on good authority that our coach and one of our senior players had drinks/dinner with May last night.

  8. Welcome to the new AFL. You gain a good reputation on the outside and maintain a good culture on the inside if you genuinely care about your players and try to facilitate trades to meet their needs, but also prepare to ensure you get maximum return. It’s simply smart business and I feel we are ahead of plenty of clubs in this regard. We won’t have many players moving on who harbour resentment, and that is good for future business.

  9. Are people so heartless as to not see why he might want to move? There are real lives to these footballers as well....

  10. Had mail tonight from a mate close to a non-dees player that JH is gone. Same source is confirming Conca to Freo so apparently that's the word going around player circles. Wouldn't take it as gospel but he was on to Lever to Melbourne at the start of 2017 before the media storm.

  11. We dont know whether Lever, Omac, Frost would really work as we only played the three of them together once I believe in round 3. Based on us choosing to not though at the time it was clearly not our preferred set up. This is my take though on the situation based on each player. Lever is an emerging super star who will play better in his customary role as the third tall/marshall the backline. He will in essence replace the Lewis role in my view next year. People have got over excited by Frost having a good month of footy. I will still remember how many marks he misjudged under pressure and cant see him playing more consistent footy than what he showed. He has good dash and has improved his decision making and execution but I will never trust him fully. I would trade him whilst his value is at its highest. Oscar is trending toward developing into a very good player. When I watch him though I think second quality tall like Astbury or Hooker or Thomson rather than a Rance or Hurley or Tarrant. Whilst he will get stronger and will improve his athleticism he will never be fast off the mark and I doubt will ever be aggressive. This is where May comes in. May played on Hawkins in the last game of the year when the Cats smashed them by 100 points. Hawkins kicked 2 goals. Ben Brown kicked 4 goals across 2 games on him. Buddy was held goal less the one game they played against them whilst May took 14 marks. The only one that really beat him all year was a Kennedy with a 5 goal performance in an 80 point West Coast demolition. He is a quality player with a competitive aggressive streak and that has been in a low team with poor culture and development. He will be better than he already has shown with us and that says alot.

  14. Poor bloke has had a tough year with the death of his father and taking over the responsibility of running the family business from a distance. It would be a tremendous loss to lose him but sometimes when you are being pulled in two direction you have to make these difficult decisions. I sincerely hope he stays but would understand if he want to be closer to home.

  20. It makes sense that he may want to move. He has great attributes, but disposal can let him down. He's a bottom 6 player, so it's no big deal if he goes.

  21. Just to put a fullstop on Kolodjashnij's speed. This from Quigley in his draft year: He has really nice pace, is a great jump and he judges his closing speed really well. He works hard and is a big kick so is dangerous anywhere out to 55. Athletically Kolodjashnij is a stand out and he was one of the stars of the Combine. He killed the jumps finishing first in the standing vertical and right foot jump and was in the top 20% of his non-preferred left foot. He went under 3 seconds in the 20m and was just outside the top 10% in the 3km. He managed to go over 14 in the beep and his agility and repeat sprint were in the top half. Overall he is one of the most impressive athletes in this draft and when you combine that with the fact that he is actually a very good footballer he is an attractive package for teams in an age of "running height".

  22. Nah...' @Mach5' mail is usually pretty good... He doesn't play that game. If he can't say more then that's fair enough by me. You lose a good source if you burn them. We get some great info on here if you know who to look for and on what subjects.

  24. I think chemistry is created after the pre season starts and the players commit to the cause together and find the guys they like to hang out with. What we appear to be doing is changing our bottom 10- 20 and except for JH, losing no one from the top 22. If we bring in 4-5 players by trades who are serious top 22 contenders that has to be an improvement. If the next 4-5 brought in via the draft, have the chance to develop into top 22 contenders, that is a brilliant result. I don't think it is the number being replaced per se that is vital, but rather the abilities of the replacements. If I said we will lose Pedo and get Preuss, would anyone complain? If I said we get KK and lose Kent? Get Toby Bedford for McKenna. Gaff for Bugg. May and a top 5 kid for Hogan or better. While these are possible examples, they show what we are trying to do, make the list better. If the list looks better after draft night than it does today, we have succeeded in improving the list, which is a main aim of every club every year. If we lose JH and keep the rest of our best 22 and change 15 other spots, I would not lose any sleep.

  26. This is becoming ridiculous. Posters working themselves into a frenzy over Hogan’s potential departure and coming up with their own personal wish list of players to obtain in return. I would say “get a grip” but it seems it has progressed way beyond that. Maybe we can change the website name to Dreamonland?

  27. Yes yes yes to KK. (KK easier than Kolidhjjhfhdashji) he is skilled with excellent left foot delivery plus length physically ready to go the concussion issues are the point to discuss but I am confident MFC can help this be put behind him a risk but is exactly the player we need should be a pick 30-50 draft pick exchange. Kent’s Stkilda trade pick probably gets it done

  29. Oh, I get it now... these major developments are happening, yet whilst you are aware of 'said' major developments as a third party, you are unwilling to obtain more information, but more than happy to let others know that you have some sort of information, that something, somewhere is occurring, at some stage. I wasn't expecting a media release, but assumed you would be posting, and was frothing for it...

  30. I'd actually like our Club to be seen as thoughtful and compassionate towards its employees, especially in unforeseen circumstances like those that AVB has found himself in. IMO, along with being successful, this is one of the important 'measures' of a true 'destination club'.

  32. If he goes I won’t begrudge him, but he damn well owes us the decency of ensuring we get dually conpensated. We picked this guy up as a mature age out of Ainslie and gave him a shot at AFL football. We kept him around for 2 years while injured. If he were to walk away and go to a club and we got say pick 56 I’d be rightly annoyed

  42. If he leaves this year it will be with be by mutual agreement. It’s possible for players to exit the club, or stay, without them “doing a Scully” or “doing a Jones”. If a deal is struck that suits both parties, you could argue he’s demonstrated loyalty by facilitating the trade.

  45. I could never be truly annoyed if he left after what he has been through this last 18 months. He is a young bloke making hard decisions with a million people buzzing in his ears. It helps to know that we'll be handsomely compensated if he does leave. I hope he stays with us, because I love the sentiment in footy. But I also felt for Bernie when he missed games and the VFL premiership, was happy to cheer and celebrate Hibberd and Melksham, and I consider both Jeff White and Jeff Farmer MFC players despite their time at other clubs. Some players move because they have poor character. Others move despite their loyalty. I hope he gets success with us.
