Seriously what a pathetic comment. Has earned his chance with really good consistent form. He's a 23yo that has played less than 30 games. You should be ashamed.10 points

What Walker did was not leadership material or captain material. He just hits him high. Has to get weeks but will depend if Zac comes back on. By the way can I just say well done to Kyle Cheney for still playing AFL footy. He may not be a superstar player and no one will ever talk about him but he has been around for 10 years now, 3 clubs and not bad for a #52 draft pick back in 07. Just battles on.5 points

Glad JKH is given a shot. Trains extremely hard and must know that this is he's last shot at it. Grab it with both hands JKH!5 points

This is a first where I’ve seen an Adelaide game being umpires in favour of the opposition. Also, GAJ is cooked.4 points

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not JKH will add pace to the side?4 points

Tyson plays inside mid. JKH plays HFF/Wing/mid etc.. Nothing to do with pecking order and all to do with suitable positions.4 points

Heh, he is only a plodder anyway.... Saty was right after all. *i reserve the right to hail him a champion if he want to come to us.4 points

I saw the 2 goals as both being opportunist goals ... the high boot in the first goal is hard to defend and with the 2nd goal the striker just swoops on a hit and hope header that bobbled forward. Goals are sometimes created by unusual happenings. On both occasions both crosses weren't pressured so maybe that's where the goals originated from ... I only listened to the game but the radio commentary painted a different picture to what I saw on replay with regards to both goals. It's fair to say that neither Stones nor Maguire are fleet-of-foot players but we knew that going into the game.4 points

10 marks to Kyle Cheney. Great game. Been in the system 10 years for 81 games across 3 clubs - funny how some players can manage to eke out a career doing just enough to hang on by a fingernail.3 points

Just a note The club has an ex player invited to every main training session now, The Wizard was last week3 points

in Q1 Adelaide player marks the ball. Moves his arms as if about to handpass it but doesn't move either foot an inch. Immediate play-on call from umpire 5 metres away. No wonder they can't deal with difficult decisions.3 points

I'm excited to see what JKH can do after so long in the wilderness.3 points

I don't think JKH has necessarily been in better form then Baker. I think its more about the role they want to fill, based around forward/half forward pressure which JKH at the very least provided last week. With Baker I understand he has speed and has strung together a few decent games at Casey but you can see he is still very raw and needs to work on his defense and positioning. We saw what happened last time we brought in a 19/20 yr old too early and I think against a fired up doggies outfit Oscar might get a bit lost on the wide open MCG. Listening to Rawlings on the podcast last week he still sounds like he's developing well but not there yet. I was surprised to see JKH selected.3 points

England should have iced the game in the first half. Their second half was woeful but they seemed to wake up a little in extra time. Well done to Croatia. They were the better team probably. If France play to potential it could be a big win but somehow I don't think that will be the case. France 2-1 in normal time. PS: The success of Belgium and Croatia in this World Cup augurs well for the smaller teams. Did we beat or draw with Croatia in 2006? Interesting comments on the academy systems in the guardian. People suggesting that by putting your money into so few(often identified at age 8-10) England is effectively limiting its talent pool.3 points

coming from Tim Gossage, one of the most biased West Australian's out there. Take it with a grain of salt either way.3 points

The two 8 point games are versus Sydney and Geelong. If we cant win one of these, our fate will be sealed by round 22 and round 23 wont mean anything.3 points

Stones and Maguire losing concentration and allowing Mandzukic to slip in behind them to score Croatia’s most famous ever goal. Clinical finish too by the striker. A lot of current and former Spurs players running around out there tonight.3 points

JKH was awesome for Casey last week and has a solid block of form behind him. Deserves a spot.3 points

True. Furthermore who knows what mad rule changes the AFL will implement which may affect the style of play and hence type of player required.2 points
-
That doesn't mean that model for a forward line will last forever. Things change constantly. In two years time sides might be screaming out for 2 key forwards as one team wins the flag on the back of it. No need to trade out someone as talented as Hogan to suit another clubs style of football.2 points

thanks for providing some balance and logic to the conversation. It wont get you too far though, some MFC fans just don't like Lewis and as soon as he plays a poor game they jump on him regardless of his previous form2 points

When we sit down for dinner at my mother-in-law's place - we remind ourselves to say grace after the meal - as an indication of what a lousy cook she happens to be. There is perhaps one saving characteristic: she could kick for goal close-in better than Max can.2 points

ANB is frustrating but he has kicked 18 goals, our third most after Hogan and T Mac. He will probably end up with 25-30 goals which would be a great return. With our lack of outside runners we need him in the team.2 points

That's what most said about Frost when we brought Petty in. Look how that worked out. I'm not against Baker playing, but I think with 7 weeks to go we add players with more AFL experience to the side.2 points

JKH has had his chances, plenty of them. Ditto Tyson. Both are neither up to snuff in AFL. Would love to see Baker out there.2 points

After how badly Petty struggled a few weeks ago (and I do see a bright future ahead for the kid), do we risk bringing another on with Baker, or do we stick with more experience in the run home? I'll be very interested to see the changes later this evening.2 points

Thats the older brother Alex I think @kevin martin might have mixed Vanders with someone else because he definitely stayed in the forwards group the whole time down my end? I couldn't get over how big of a unit Vanders is! To the naked eye he looks like a genuine key forward. But to answer your question @John Demonic i think he can definitely play as that roaming 3rd tall/midfielder who can stand next to Tmac deep forward as a marking option and apply forward pressure once the ball hits the ground. With his sheer size and strength i would also love for him to have spurts on ball to give Oliver /Petracca rest up forward. We all forget that we drafted him as an inside midfielder that was averaging over 30 disposals a game in the NEAFL, so there's definitely some midfield ability there in him.2 points

Oh and thanks to @binman for calling in. Great call. Love hearing from Demonlanders.2 points

Yeah second half was a bit of a let down. As it had a lot of time wasting. Bit of a talking point over on reddit. Time keeping is such a terrible aspect of soccer compared with the professionalism of other sports where we value every second lost by making it up with TIME OFF. Even just having 1 minute increments of stoppage time seems so lazy. Surely if you have somewhere counting every second, then you end up with precise Min and Sec to add ie 8min 45s. And then near end of injury time, add even more on a board for the wasted time in Injury time. " [Lapanje] Next thing they should add to modernise football is to change stoppage time to effective time. Today 6 minutes was added but the ball was in play for maybe 2-3 minutes. Yet the referee blew at almost exactly 96'. Heavily encourages time-wasting. Same story in most games I watch " https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/8xsqkw/lapanje_next_thing_they_should_add_to_modernise/ Having said that, I liked France's game. So professional. Their defence was enormous. Defended the lead so well and gave Belgium nothing. Really felt the divide between an experienced football power and a middleweight team that is trying to emerge, even though the only difference was a corner goal. I wonder if Belgium for the 2022 world cup is a good bet2 points

At that personal level, I have four MFC supporters in my family, with my wife and two of my sons avid supporters making up three members and one who would be if he was to live in Viccy more permanently. One drives to games from Sydney, my wife and I drive from Adelaide. The two of us will be at the Interstate Members function at the Sporting Globe hotel in Richmond, this coming Saturday and will be moving along to the Doggies game at the 'G soon after to bask in the glory of another win. Just love the footy. This might be my sixth trip for the year! Other than that, it's Foxtel. So it's: 1. Daddy 2. Mummy 3.Son No. 2 4. Son No. 4. As the grandchildren proliferate and grow, there's gotta be another 6 avid members on the trot to support and join the MFC. My daughter is impartial to the rough game, but her little son, at 6 months, already has the Dees' beanie and scarf, and not much choice in the matter. Another two children of mine got the Geelong bug years ago but Son No. 3 - and his sons - seem to think their dad knows everything, including all of the Cats. Never mind.2 points
