  1. In the English Premier League they don't even allow a Ref to oversee a game if they live in or were born in the home city - just take any perceived bias out of the conversation - seems AFL should do the same with Leigh

  3. They had a gentle dig at ours on their banner last week. Maybe next time ours should say... ”jokes about skiing, you may continue to bleat. But you’ll always be known as scumbag drug cheats”

  10. This is a huge bugbear of mine. Classic example last week was when he took that mark over McDonand-Tipungwuti and then tried to run around him and kick the ball into the forward line, but because he ran on this angle to get around McDonand-Tipungwuti he was forced to kick to the pocket. If he simply went straight back and kicked over the man on the mark he could have kicked the ball to the hot-spot and not to the pocket because he wasn't on an angle. The fact that he doesn't have a sidestep and can only run in straight lines doesn't help things either.

  13. I start very few threads, in fact i think this is probably only my 2nd or 3rd in my time on DL. But i am really excited about a new innovation on afl.com called stats pro. Well to be precise excited about the video element where you can watch the edited video of every players involvements for each game from the start of 2017. The involvements match the stats collected on afl stats pro, so spoils, one percenters, score involvements, frees against, kicks, marks, clangers etc. You can watch every involvement or just highlights. But you can also select specific involvements (which are often part of clusters of involvements). Unfortunately it is only for telstra mobile customers who have live pass but i wanted to flag it those who have live pass. It is brilliant and a fascinating way to analyse how individual players perform. Genuinely new way to absorb the game and will definetley allow viewrs to assess players more objectively. Ive watched the video for about 8 of the players from the bombers game. Addictive. One player that was interesting was tyson. His game was much better than i haf thought it was. Got caught a couple of times and a couple of clangers but jeez he was involved in alot of good clearances and scoring chains. Weideman was another whise game was better than i had thought (albeit still not fantastic). He looks quite a natural ruck man. Has anyone used this yet?

  14. The Tigers home game has skewed the results but we're one of the big 4. Give us Friday nights. ? http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/st-kilda/st-kilda-is-confident-earlyseason-low-home-crowd-turnouts-wont-impact-its-bottom-line/news-story/887a2d1c360d8afb05c8f93ef070dfcc

  16. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-04/dons-abandoned-me-in-time-of-need-says-hird Cry me a river. Seriously when will this man admit the part he had in this, he was in charge of this club and went along with this idea. My god and you threw people under the bus. also now footy people are coming out saying we suspected about Bomber or knew he had some issues, well you know what he needed help back then and an intervention. He has dug himself to deep this time. If this was Joe blogs off the street im pretty sure he wouldn't get much sympathy. It could be an interesting few months.

  17. What disgusts me most are the efforts to paint Bomber as some sort of victim as was done with Hird. This guy is successful and wealthy. Yes he may have a personal drug problem but if he crosses that line to hanging around with hardened criminals and trafficking dangerous drugs for profit which are a cancer to society and destroys many lives he deserves to be cast away as a pariah and heaped all the scorn to go with it. I see the damage these vicious drugs cause every day when visiting nearby Victoria Street and know personally of many lives destroyed and lost. We are not talking about relatively harmless weed here.

  19. I find it strange that when this site discusses drugs, it's the users who are generally criticised yet when the discussion is about poker machines, it's the machines that are the problem.

  25. I have received the e-mail with the details of the 50% voucher for members of the Melbourne Football Club. You have to the 31st May to use it. I have ordered 4 tracksuit pants and 1 track suit jacket and saved 260 dollars. I know it use to be 70% but 50% is better than nothing.

  26. And we are playing a poor team. The Weid is playing in a forward line where he is clearly the third best tall so should get the third best defender. If cannot play a reasonable game this weekend then he never will IMO. It is put up or shut up time.

  28. i do have to laugh at "the club abandoned me" line. he got enormous support from the club, even if they didn't agree with every action he took. how entitled can one get

  30. Couldn't agree more - I suspect we are all more than a little tired of Hird running the 'woe am I- the Club abandoned me ' line. If he could simply have the courage to engage in a bit of introspection and then state that, (with the benefit of hindsight), "I realise now that as Senior Coach, the buck stopped with me", he just might find it easier to 'move on'.

  33. Leigh Fisher has been umpiring for quite some time now. Without checking, I expect he's already umpired some St Kilda games. If there had been any suggestion of any bias (for or against St Kilda) by Leigh Fisher in those games he wouldn't still be umpiring games involving St Kilda (or even any games). So, no, we shouldn't be concerned about Leigh Fisher umpiring this game. And we shouldn't even be impugning his reputation by asking the question. If it were up to me, I'd close the thread.

  34. They will come out all guns blazing trying to prove they aren't the rabble everyone suspects them to be. Weather the storm in the first quarter then put the foot down. We should really be winning this one comfortably.

  35. Not sure if CP and Hogan play or if we win or lose, but playing them without Nick and Joey is a big plus for us.

  36. It happens a lot in life. In Bomber's case, clearly everyone knew. Even the humble old spectator watched Bomber appear on TV looking (at times) in terrible shape. Sleepy, bags under his eyes, appearing depressed. Whatever, in bad shape. Now you can imagine how many times this would have occurred at both GFC and EFC, indeed even within his own social circle. There are always opportunities for intervention. Not just to ask the question and accept the denials. As a father, you may accept your children's denial of a misdemeanor but if that misdemeanor is as obvious as the nose on your face or persists over time, you do something about it. Not always easy, but if you care, you do something. You intervene and find a solution or get assistance to deal with the problem. You don't accept "no" as the answer. Now that is perhaps a bit simplistic, but it reflects a tendency in today's society. To accept something at face value and not to go the extra yards to do something meaningful. Even if offers were made and rejected by Bomber, it does not appear that anyone took that extra step. If someone is accused of stealing, a simple denial is not satisfactory. You investigate and do something about it so that you have a satisfactory answer and solution to the problem. Bomber may have failed society, the folks who trusted him, his family, indeed himself, but somehow I feel that there are a lot of people, particularly those close to him in both clubs who have failed Bomber.

  39. I had Brayshaw a couple of years ago on my card and he barely got on the ground with all the concussion issues he had that year. I’ve since decided it was all my fault and I jinxed him so I go with the generic card these days.

  40. I understand your position and your comments have validity. However, believe me, not everyone has choice due ....well to life circumstance, personality and mental health. In this case, you have pricked a nerve. I'm not just talking about Bomber and the scourge of addiction but the whole community of addicts that are trapped in a vicious downward spiral. I'm not sure I like the term addiction but rather that folks who are caught up in this world are trapped because of their physiological and physiological dependence. It does not matter if you have money and fame, the addiction is the same. Yes, I have sympathy because the future outlook is not good, and I'm not going to state the obvious. Fundamentally, addiction and mental health go hand in hand. We do need sympathy and compassion irrespective of the person.

  41. Yeah, but footy fans aren't renowned for their fairness or good judgement. Carlton haven't gotten over their industrial level tanking, WCE only have to blink for people to recall their drugginess, and Essendon will never escape this world class drug scandal. We have enough trouble dealing with simply being the MFC. So f*** the EFC and all who get dragged down by the undertow.

  42. FFS, the kid just turned 22. Yeah he's first month was disappointing but I don't think people understand how long it takes to work out how your fellow teammates play let alone he's fellow defenders play. People everyday start new jobs & careers and don't walk in from day 1 knowing exactly what's going on, football is no different.. If not harder. If Jake Lever doesn't go down as one of if not the best key position back this clubs had I'll eat my hat... Give him time to settle in, he's still 4-5 years off the prime age for a footballer. I know on GF day in a few years to come who I want at CHB.

  44. I know he is out of form, but Jeffy coming back into the side would make us an even better side if that makes sense in a weird kind of way? ANB can make way for him. I just feel on a dry quick deck, Garlett has the potential to kick your 3-4 goals from anywhere!
