  1. Michael Hibberd talks about Jake Lever leaving Adelaide and joining the Dees. “Jake’s a super player — easily one of the best intercept mark players in the league,” Hibberd said. “And a young player with a lot of upside and a lot of footy to play. “As I’ll be spending a lot of time with him in the same part of the field, I’m looking forward to teaching him a few things — and also to learning from him as well.”

  2. The addition of both Lever this year and Hibberd last year has and will completely transform our backline from an obvious weakness to now a strength. O-Mac will now be the only player I’ll worry about. But with another pre-season and further development to his skills and body I’ll feel a little bit better. Lever, Hibberd and Jetta make our backline group sound very strong.

  3. Why not? At his best, Garland was an excellent backman. Couple that with his intelligence and I think he could be very well suited to the coaching game.

  4. Had a long talk to him in the Mahogany Room prior to the B&F and had normal shoes on. Was really pleased Lever was joining us and looking forward to training with him. Will bring a lot to the team. I never broached the "Jack" topic with him. He really understood the anger and frustration from the supporters (well me anyway) with the late season fade out. A real gentleman and displays a real love of our club.

  5. Critical extension. Key figure around the club. Loved his comments too. And the fact that he agreed to the contract extension so quickly, rather than string out negotiations (which may have allowed the media to generate some noise, however misguided). Now time to extend Petracca's and Oliver's contracts. Until at least 2030.

  6. Understand completely PF but I would go a little further. This year should have been the 8.... next year has to be 6 with a chance to push for 3 or 4. Tired of the mediocrity shown by this club. Not sure the Pollyanna's on this forum understand the damage done to this club by the late season fade out. It simply must not happen again. Remember with five games to go we could have gone top 4 and instead we won 2 out of 5 with almost our best 22 on the park. Moreover 4 out of those 5 games were against teams that well and truly missed the 8.

  7. Speaking for everyone on here, we feel better for knowing you'll feel better about Oscar this year.. best news ever!

  8. Well, I don't remember that one incident or those other incidents, and I remember my own incidents and in the reverse. Hence, disagreement. Doesn't mean he would be a good, bad, or indifferent coach though. Moot City.

  10. Im with you re Crameri. Insurance if Hogan has more injury concerns. But how the hell is trading for a AA 21 yr old Key back trading for instant gratification!? Geelong with Ablett is instant grat... but Lever has 10 years in front of him. So.... Im hoping to be gratified over and over again Biffen. Instant... and long term :-)

  11. I have it on good authority that he's in for a weekly pedi, and has even had a few sneaky manis. My source quoted him as saying 'I want hands like Oliver!' No stone left unturned at MFC.

  12. Sticking it to the club for trading Watts by extending his contract, good on ya Max. He’ll regain his 2016 form after being NQR this season post return from injury. I can feel it. Deep in my loins.

  13. Based on the fact he's had 5 seasons at AFL level where he's kicked over 30 goals in a season - numbers that Harmes and Bugg could only dream of. Put him in a training singlet and you'll be drooling over him in no time.

  15. Failure to establish at two clubs suggest to me it's an upside that is unattainable. Would rather we focused on new players than waste our time, resources and a space on the list on this type.

  16. Ill tell you now I reckon he was critically mismanaged and came back far too early! I reckon this potentially could be a fatal injury AKA Trengove!

  20. So what is considered the best WFA race in the world these days for the classic mile and a half. Is it the Arc de Triomphe, the Laurel international or the Dubai race (forget the name) or the Cox Plate. Cannot really see the Cox plate ever being at the top because of the flight times to Australia and our quarantine rules. Seems that Winx is on a hiding to nothing today. The field is weak according to the pundits. Hope she wins. Cheers

  21. Forty plus blokes on the list and then there are all the support staff. Not everyone is going to like everyone. In every club there will be players who don't like the coach, or don't like the captain, or don't like the fitness guy, or, or, or .... It's in losing clubs where we hear about it. GCS, Brisbane. Whispers coming out of North now. Winning has an amazing way soothing the dissent and keeping it at trace levels. We see it in political parties. They are periodically "in turmoil" and riddled with "infighting" ... until the moment they win an election. Suddenly they are unified and all happy campers.

  23. I'm glad we've re-signed Max and I'm also glad we've only signed him until 2021. 2018 is a big year for him. Injury didn't help his 2017. It seriously hampered it, but I worry that he doesn't have the weapons to move with the evolution of the game. But I've never been his biggest fan. Thought he was outstanding in 2016; the mobility and contested marking all over the ground, as well as the tapping to advantage. However, I felt the opposition worked him out a bit in 2017, so it'll be interesting to see how he responds next year.

  29. The impending signing of Max Gawn to an extended contract will allow the club to concentrate on other free agents and players who would otherwise be out of contract by the end of 2018. Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn close to signing new deal

  33. He won't make either at any club let alone us, hence his public statement to be picked up by a club on the up where he has a few ties to the fd. Will play for Werribee or Williamstown at best. Comments about him finally having his body right were also made by Dawes when we delisted him & he still hasn't managed to put on any boots since.

  35. He played round 2 and 3 before his injury, and then returned in round 14 v Meth Coast Every player can get injured. It's not as if it was a recurrence of a chronic injury. It was a hammy. I could ping one of those chasing the missus around the bedroom tonight. (granted, she is 20+ years younger than me) Celebrate the fact that the games best ruckman has signalled his intent to saddle up for us long term, and give away the sad sack routine. This is nothing but good news mate.

  39. The alternative view is that games against interstate clubs played at the MCG draw smaller crowds than games played there against Victorian teams. Smaller crowds means less revenue and a worse atmosphere which discourages the Free-to-Air broadcaster from wanting to broadcast such games in prime time. So, if you look at the bigger picture, the commercial value of the NT deal (direct revenue plus the commercial advantage of playing Victorian teams at the MCG) may be more valuable to the club overall than the alternative. Of course I would prefer not having to play home games away from the MCG, but reality bites.

  42. As much as I like the idea of a fit and firing Crameri, the fact that the bulldogs, who arent overly endowed with goal kickers and just traded their leading goal kicker, didnt keep him is flashing red warning light....

  43. why get rid of Watts to only bring in this fella? Sure Lennon is a mid/HFF, but Watts would have been a much preferred option than Lennon. Pass.

  44. Lucky be damned As no better coach then the great man Napoleon Bonaparte himself said 'I would rather have a general who is lucky than one who is good' The 'post football' career of footballers is worthy of study.... the 'tradesman' footballers often seem to benefit more than the gifted, with exceptions of course. Joel MacDonald is listed on the stock exchange. James Hird I saw the other day promoting chocolate in a super market..... go figure.
