There is an article about Trenners on the MFC website. He sounds really positive and is clearly a happy player with the Club. I'm a doubter unfortunately, I don't think he's got his pace back but this little puff piece makes me wonder - and more importantly gives me hope. It would be fantastic if he could get back to something like his old self - good luck tomorrow Trenners and may you have a great season. Heaven knows, you deserve it.11 points

Surely this will be investigated by the AFL as it is miles worse than our tanking. If true they win a premiership while cheating the salary cap. Surely the premiership will now be given to the runner up. Who was that?6 points

This is such an ignorant comment but I can't be bothered giving a detailed response other than to say while Craig was there we played finals 7 of about 11 years while he was doing the job that is now covered by at least 3 people - Taylor, Viney, O'Donnell. I'm not sure how many full time recruiters we have now but Craig had no full time help. In the first rookie draft he picked Junior, Nathan Bassett, Daniel Ward, Matthew Bishop and Russell Robertson. Not a bad collection that.6 points

Heart on his sleeve guy. I always liked Dunn. Hope he does well at the Pies. That said, I would have liked to see him finish his career at the Dees. A quality clubman.6 points

Melbourne aiming to be fearless under Simon Goodwin "Goodwin wants his team to stand clear of the pack in their style and approach. Unwavering in intent at the ball, unwavering in the way they move it." "The mantra is for them to play fearless football. They hope that is to be their brand and what they stand for. That can be interpreted in any number of ways – fearless and ruthless around the ball, brave when using it". How long have we waited for our team to play like that: Fearless Football - has a nice ring to it! No more stinging criticisms of Demons, like: a team that doesn't stand for anything; a team and a club no longer irrelevant. Now for the team and the coaches to 'walk the talk'.5 points

Some of my fondest footy memories of the MFC occurred under your stewardship. Cheers Mate.5 points

Words. Although it does sound like frenzied defence, followed by all out attack once in possession. Beats the stop/prop/go backwards of recent years. Lets see which Melbourne turns up, and how long it continues.5 points

It's when you start looking at what other countries with their sport that you realise just how far behind Australia is when it comes to utilising the internet for sport. The prices vs the quality, it makes you wonder why you should even bother.5 points

My father died of MND around 9 months ago - same age as Neale - had it for 18 months. During that time - Dad (we're from Portland) met with Neale as part of Daniher's Drive - the family being proud Melbourne supporters were thrilled with how respectful Neale was - Dad at this stage couldn't speak anymore - I suspect faced with how the disease was 'really' going to pan out in due course for Neale really chastened him to connect with Dad over the course of a few chats... champion bloke, and you wouldn't wish the disease on your worst enemy.5 points

The new AFL live pass for 2017 is now officially an effing joke and massive ripoff. Where last season one could watch a match on a full size IPad screen, the AFL and Telstra in their money grubbing wisdom now limit live games to a puny 7 inch screen on tablet devices. Replays can be watched on a full screen size after 12 hours delay. Subscribers to their horror only found this out tonight while watching the Magpies/Bombers game. Telstra and the AFL did not warn subscribers this was going to happen apparently due to the new broadcast deal. Was slyly added in the fine print under terms and conditions. All we got was good news in the past few weeks about great new features that were coming with the new app. What a disgrace.4 points

Thought it might be good to have a thread for random comments on the games we're not involved in... Last night both teams looked pretty average. Tonight...can't see Harry staying forward for too long. The Cats defence is very average now that Enright's gone, they're not good enough to have Harry as a luxury forward. Also, without 3rd man up they don't have a ruck combination that works. Selwood and Danger will be knackered at the end of the season holding this crew up.4 points

If the same thing happened today, Whelan would get 3 weeks, Hird would get a free and 50m, and essedon would get a priority pick in the draft.4 points

Fantastic to see us welcome back to the fold great players, and I'm really glad that we are focusing on Indigenous player development. This club is really kicking off field goals!4 points

My foxtel goes almost entirely unused outside footy season. My bank isn't broken thanks to a pretty well paying job, however I very much resent being forced to waste money in this fashion just to watch the sport I love.4 points

1. It's extraordinary that the left can't debate Islam without constantly referring to Christianity. Try actually arguing in favour of Islamic practices and Muslim immigration without referencing Christianity in the same breath. You won't be able to. 2. I'm not interested in your personal story or family history. No weight is added to your argument. 3. Whether you're smart enough to realise it, or not (the latter), Christianity has shaped the West's culture and values. Totally !4 points

I just don't understand why the AFL doesn't embrace the online world like it should. They would have tens of thousands of subscribers if they offered lots of options, but instead they act as if it's still 1997 and not 2017. I just don't understand it. I've got Foxtel so it doesn't worry me as such, but then I've only really got it for Fox Footy. I'd happily get rid of Foxtel and get a good, online service, but Telstra and the AFL just treat us with disrespect.4 points

There are easily 8000 more people ready to commit. I will add 4 to the membership tally ( 5 if I add the cat ). I will purchase 2 junior memberships for a couple of my younger students who are dees fans as well.4 points

I actually hope Dunn does well, his departing message last year showed nothing but class. What really annoys me is when commentators mention Howe's switch to defense last year as some sort of masterstroke on Buckley or Collingwood's behalf. Did these guys watch any footy at all in 2015? Huddo, one of the better ones, even mentioned it tonight.4 points

Brings shame upon the name of Richard Nixon. Added shame I suppose.3 points

Hird had some early lessons in cheating it seems. The AFL should take the 2000 premiership off them, and give it to us3 points

And in the 1999 draft when he was hampered through Melbourne losing its first round pick (salary cap breach), he drafted future captain Brad Green (19), Paul Wheatley (20), Michael Clark (42 as f/s), Matthew Whelan (50), Shannon O'Brien (63) and Cameron Bruce (64). Not a bad collection either.3 points

This is what puzzles me. I have otherwise intelligent friends who at any mention of Islam will fall over backwards to bring up the perceived wrongs of Christians. I am not religious and have absolutely no reason to defend Christianity besides the absurdity of the "but Christians..." reflex every time a valid criticism of Islam is made. The Christian's have caused or contributed to an enormous number of problems over the years but it is not a valid counter argument to criticism of Islam.3 points

I've never got Foxtel because I don't want anything they offer other than the AFL and refuse to pay for that unwanted product. I'd feel the same way if Coles forced me to buy grapes, plums and ham when I just wanted an apple. Now that people can get by other means much of the non-footy stuff that Foxtel offers, Foxtel is toast. So they are keeping the footy in a tight fist trying to milk the last cent they can. It looks like we won't get anything sensible out of the AFL until their current Foxtel and free-to-air contracts expire. Living outside Melbourne I can't get to games. I (and 2 other family members) pay Demons memberships which frankly is worthless to us (bar emotion), and now I'm expected to pay for some inflated Foxtel service or just watch endless GWS and Sydney games. P!ssed off with the AFL is too mild a word.3 points

If he cannot show a proper cause of action that is winnable, his case can be thrown out on a summary application to the Court. You can summons the Defendants to give evidence but if you do, unless you can get them declared hostile witnesses, you are restricted in the way you ask them questions. For example you lose the right to cross examine them and you can't ask leading questions. The Defendant's own Counsel can then cross examine his own client/witness and get far more evidence in than otherwise. The right to refuse questions that may self incriminate is in criminal cases. The Plaintiff must prove their case and if not you can submit at the end of their case that there is no case to answer. If the Court agrees it is over.2 points

Finally some sense from you. We are the same size but you probably have a decade or so on me. The only sensible way to resolve our differences is a fist fight but you will have to tie one hand behind your back as you are younger and everything has to be " fair" right? Have a lovely time in Rome. Compare and contrast the life and freedoms there with Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. The church is a nice bit of theatre there and nothing more to most. I agree all religion is retarded.2 points

I went to Texas last month, you silly boy. And I'm a 6 foot 6, 102kg meat eating sport-loving filmmaker. Damn. You can't put me in a box. As much as you'd like to. And yes, we are going to Rome on our honeymoon. Finally, you dodged the majority of my last post, Biffboy. It has nothing to do with Western values. It has everything to do with Christianity and religion in general encroaching on my rights or others'. You've said you don't particularly care for Christianity and yet you constantly defend it. Don't confuse Western values for Christian values. I'm not a Christian and I know full well how to treat someone properly without having to read and interpret some book. Western values are acceptance and the ability to be who you want to be. Western values aren't god-fearing. Western values aren't homophobic. Western values aren't racist. Western values aren't sexist. Western values aren't even inherently anti-Muslim. I love my country and I know how lucky I am to live in it, but that doesn't mean I can't take umbrage with aspects of it. That is the beauty of our great democracy.2 points
