  1. I have tried to stay out of this thread as i say stupid [censored] too often, but here is my opinion anyway.... BB and ADC have a point that if Hoges goes it wont be the end of the world. We are building nicely with or without him and the compo we can fairly expect would be good. But i hope to high heaven that Jesse re-signs. OK, so he is a shite kick from outside 50.. and granted, his body language has been fuggin disgraceful for most of the season... and his head seems to be in the wrong place..... and.... and.... Stop for a minute and just think how good this fella will be when his head and heart are sorted and he directs all his energy at the contest ??? I can only imagine how he must have been feeling during the year if his old man is as crook as some have suggested. If that was me i would have been pizzwrecked all year and unable to even kick a footy lets alone dominate a game the way that us supporters hope/expect. His signature is possibly the most important for MFC since Roos and Peter Jackson inked their first contracts. Hogan signs and we can realistically expect to have other names consider us who otherwise might not have. The kid has future champion written all over him, and he will make others walk taller.

  2. Nanny forum. If your precious being cannot take a bit of misinformation posted on a public forum then maybe you need to start re-evaluating where you spend your time. Yeah sure he could have taken more care in what he believed was the truth, but he didn't. He will not be the first and will not be the last, even if there is a threat of banning. Can't anyone just laugh things off anymore? Everything is just so serious now that people cannot make mistakes without others jumping all over them from their moral high ground.

  3. He didn't say that. He said he thought it looked more likely (Hogan staying at Melbourne) but he didn't say anything about it being announced today. I can see how ProDee gets frustrated with people misquoting television and radio interviews.

  4. I just heard Beveridge on the radio, apologising for his players not turning up to a community show the cup/ congratulate the players type function in Ballarat. Apparently there was a crowd waiting to greet their "heroes"! He said they were "tired". In fact they were (are) still at the boozer. Rather explodes the myth of recognising the value and efforts of long suffering supporters doesn't it. Doesn't do a lot for the notion of the united underdogs from the west either , does it? The continued existence of that club came, to a large extent, from tin rattling and ground level support. It seems to me that the players have [censored] on this. As I have said in other places on this board the only loyal suckers at a footy club are the fans. It's time some of the prima donnas were reminded who contributes to their paycheck.

  8. Yeah, I don't see getting back into the first round as being as critical as some on this site seem to. We have our first rounder from this draft and we got him last year and put a year of development into him. Since he is a tall, that was a brilliant move as they typically need far more time to develop. I would rather not see us trading out potentially high end talent that we have put time into for a punt on something new, unless we don't think they will develop further. I don't think that is the case with Salem, I see all sorts of upside when he puts it all together. The thyroid issue is the only thing that bothers me and I'm sure our medical staff are all over that.

  9. To expand slightly he said his old man has told him to go do what he wants to do, ( staying in Melbourne rather than returning home to Perth) Melbourne were/are extremely confident He's never once given Fremantle any indication he wants to play there and he suspects the talk is trying to drive his pay day up a bit. absolutely zero about an announcement date, but it sounds as though it's either already signed or he's going to sign in the very near future. no mention of years or terms of the deal.

  10. Thanks for giving a bunch of Demon loving misfits a place to share our love (and sometimes endless frustration)! I think my connection to the MFC would be far weaker without Demonland.

  11. It's that time of year again when we thank all those who have contributed to Demonland during the past season and all those who post here or simply visit and read without posting. We value your contributions and ongoing support - especially to Nasher who keeps us going on the technical side, to our moderators whose task is often thankless. Surprisingly, even when our team improves as it has this year, their job is still no more easy. Special thanks to our regular contributors, Whispering Jack, George on The Outer, The Oracle, JVM, KC from Casey and all others who have provided us with material and articles. We hope the Bulldogs' great win yesterday will prove an inspiration top our young team and that 2017 will be the year that we finally break through that ceiling and experience a taste of finals football. As the Doggies proved, once you're there, anything can happen. We also look forward to the inaugural women's competition and hope a finals appearance there will be a prelude for later in the year. As always, we are on the look out for new contributors who have something to say about the mighty Demons. If you have the talent or simply want something to say about the club in articlae form, please contact me via PM. Cheers, thanks again and keep your eye on the red and the blue. Andy

  13. Off topic irrelevant Tom Boyd comparisons in the Jesse Hogan thread. It's got nothing to do with Hogan. Here's a better place for it. Tom Boyd won the flag for the Dogs. That was one of the greatest big man games in a Grand Final I've seen. 6 contested marks in any game is big and the time, place and way he took them was amazing. Topped off with 3 goals 2 - goals at critical times in different methods. That doesn't happen by accident. #1 draft pick, following on from his tough work in the ruck in the PF, he came of age in a hot GF and has inked his name into football immortality. If he never played again the Dogs would still have their money's worth. I reckon he'll have a good career and he'll always be a GF match-winner, that's rare air

  14. So landing a "star" doesn't naturally guarantee success? Yet some still stand by the idea and want to lure a "star" as a guarantee of success?

  15. I'd be shocked if the club considered trading Salem, he's super highly rated internally, rated nearly as high as Viney and Hogan

  16. Collingwood are no longer interested in him. Western Bulldog Lin Jong weighing up offer from Gold Coast Suns as Collingwood withdraws Beveridge has shown he can make the tough gutsy calls: suspended Boyd and Cordy, dropped Stringer. We will never know if Lin Jong showing his intentions cost him his spot in the GF. But if the decision was 50/50, even 60/40 in his favour, between him and a player who was loyal and committed to and trusted by his mates and the team (which is what they thrive on) that Beveridge would back the loyal player. I would say Lin Jong has paid a high price for venturing into enemy territory during the year and showing his hand early. Moral of the story: don't trust Collingwood.

  17. I rate Salem highly and if he is fit for the pre season period, he is one of the first picked in our best 22. Salem has the skills and toughness to be a major boost in 2017 with Hibberd on the other flank.

  18. First flag for 62 years. I reckon anyone in Ballarat who expected all of them to show was delusional. A bunch of young thickheads with a shiny new cup to drink from. Was always going to happen. Epic fail from whoever planned it.

  21. OK - that's enough for you two. The bulk of posters and the moderators are sick of the abuse and derailing of threads. There will be no more warnings. If you want to carry on your feud do it by PM or better still not at all. The next instance of this will see you guys out of here for 3 months minimum. And on that note, just in case, let me wish you a happy new year.

  24. Up there with Essendon's efforts in going to Wangaratta for a pre-season match. You always see Hawthorn travel to Launceston after their flags but apparently the Dogs players couldn't do their mad monday on a Tuesday. Very poor effort and takes a bit of the gloss off for mine.

  28. It may be the other way. Maybe Dunn doesn't want to commit until he knows who the coach is, if Brisbane were to appoint Neeld for instance then Dunn may not want to go.

  29. I was passed on the info from a friend and should have realised he would have embellished it with the today and certainty of Ralph's comments... Sorry for that, but I wasn't trying to take the 'pizz' or get everyone's hopes up. To suggest a ban from a hardly sinister comment is quite frankly ridiculous. I think you all need to relax, I was just so excited that I failed to check the validity of the comments before posting. AND, even so, what I said isn't entirely false excluding the 'today' aspect. Ralph was still very, very confident that Jesse will be signing on with the Dees, so I think that is still something worth posting.

  30. Qwerty deserves a ban for it. If he has made his own conclusions and gotten our hopes up like that then a long holiday from Demonland should be on the cards. Poor, poor form.

  31. Geez I hope these rumours are on the money. To say we need this guy to commit to this club would be the understatement of the century. If Hogan re-signs, can someone start a new thread and put this one to bed?

  34. Ralph seemed very confident that the deal is done. Said that Jesse's father has told Jesse not to come back to WA for him. Ralph also says that Freeo have not been approached by Jesse's management and that all the talk about Jesse going back was to ratchet up Melbourne's financial offer.

  36. OHHHH I wish we displayed the same teamwork, comittment and passsion that the doggies did this year It is what is missing. look at the lists thiers is full of rookies and late draft picks Ours is full of top 20 picks and we are no where near them in competiveness and pure desire to win. Ps also they are still a very young team. So no excuses now for Goodwin and the list.

  37. I heard Clarkson say recently something that I have argued for a long time on these forums, that it was all about playing to the strengths of a team. There is no one set way to play the game (besides a few non-negotiables such as tackling), because no two lists are ever the same.

  38. Not really OD, just over how some are just looking for any way at all to prove that Hogan isn't as good as he is. It's sad, but all I could think about as Boyd kicked a few was 'I bet the usual's roll up in this thread and try and claim that Boyd has it over Hogan. Sure enough, it happened. And anyway, this is a thread about his contract, not a comparison to a bloke who has played 1 good game in his career.

  40. The MFC doesn't deserve the 13th Flag only sweat, hard work and committment 100% from the entire club will give us a chance to play. It's not just going to happen because the Dogs broke their drought. Christ after Sydney won in 2005 after 72 years we got worse....

  41. As far as results go,this is the best thing to happen for our group. Seeing the dogs give their all and for that to be good enough means we just have to find the intensity as a group and we are going places, despite what history, conventional wisdom and the media might say about our chances.

  42. Get your hand off it Tyson. Your talking about a club that had their captain leave for GWS, a Brownlow Medalist looking for greener pastures in Ess. They then get a coach that put belief in his boys to turn this club around when it seemed people were leaving. Amazing effort from a battling club, and you say this dribble. Against a side that the AFL look after, one year they get Tippett, the next year Franklin, had COLA for god knows how long. And the Dogs beat this side with a hell of a lot of injuries throughout the year. Simply amazing, play with heart for their club and coach.

  43. As I sit in my backyard I can hear the music catching on the northerly wind from the western oval, a celebration in full flight. Last night cars paraded up and down my street in Yarraville honking their horns endlessly. Pedestrians sang themselves hoarse on the way home. The inner west was a cauldron of celebration and happiness, a community brought together by a football club and a collective dream realised. Having been born and bred in the west I couldn’t be happier for them and yet at the same time I can’t help but feel envious and a little sad. The bullies have always had a sense of place and represent their community with pride. Where do we stand? We have no real home, no place that is our and ours alone. This I believe holds us back in ways that are near impossible to measure, intangible if you will. I believe the most pressing off field issue we face is our lack of a true home. A place to gather and celebrate, to commiserate when we lose and to rub shoulders with our boys. A place where our supporters history and passion is embedded into the psyche of our players. For too long I have felt that a disconnect between the football club and the supporters exists and I believe this is due in part to our lack of a sense of place, our own turf.

  44. Leaving aside the current debate, there can be no argument as to the value of a good coach. 3 of the acknowledged best, in Bevo, Longmire and Cameron, got their sides into the last 4, with 2 of course in the GF. I hope Goody is a great Coach, because we need one.

  45. - We are 18 months behind the Dogs in development. - We were flat. - We didn't come out to play. - We're too young. - We were cooked. - We came off a 6 day break. - We had to travel. - We don't like playing at Etihad.
