  2. Surprised to see Jones go in the first pass. I thought he had a case for one more season, and probably would have played games next season, but I guess that's (rightly) not where the bar is set. No surprises with Grimes, but it still gives me a stab of grief now that it's official. A player who gave his all the MFC during the toughest of times. I hope the note he leaves on is not too sour and he can continue to be a Melbourne man after footy. Thanks to all three for their contributions.

  3. Will just add as a sponsor of Jack for a few years, he gave his all for the club and is a really nice bloke. Wish him well for the future in footy and for his life in general. Thanks to Matt and Dean for their contribution as well and good luck for the future.

  4. I saw enough of ANB on the weekend to validate his decision making and execution by foot are not up to it. In contract but trade if opportunity to improve position is there.

  5. Club website: "THE MELBOURNE Football Club has today advised Jack Grimes, Matt Jones and Dean Terlich that they will not be offered playing contracts for the 2017 season". Melbourne makes first list changes Really surprised at the loss of Matt Jones. All the best to all three players: they wore the red and blue with pride.

  8. I found Gill's vote reading was atrocious and hugely disrespectful. The way he raced through some games like they were meaningless was a massive insult to those teams and players awarded votes in those games.

  9. Yeah, I know, just makes me feel sad for Grimes who I greatly respected. We burnt a lot of potential footballers from 2008 - 2014 and at times Grimes rose above all the junk and represented the Dees with dignity and strength.

  10. After today's news I thought I would update rfpc's table so people can keep track of the overall list: The announcements today were: Jack Grimes, Matt Jones, Dean Terlich would not be offered a contract. I guess it was predictable but still sad to see loyal Demons go.

  12. Most analysts, including Paul Roos early in his tenure, have said that the Dogs were about 18 months ahead of Melbourne in terms of their development. This is borne out when you look at recent ladder positions and average age/games played. In 2014 the Dogs finished with 7 wins and 81%. They showed the sort of inconsistency you're now lamenting with the Dees. But people forget the 2014 Dogs and only concentrate on the current incarnation. We're better than the 2014 Dogs. 18 months.

  13. Thanks GNF. I love a good riddle. I was disappointed with my inability to decipher your riddles during the Dangerfield saga but I've been hard at work ever since tackling cryptic crosswords and my 6 year old daughter's 'Book of Riddles' and I think I'm ready. So I highlighted the clear clues you've left for the Demonland faithful and decided to use google to help filter through your obvious list of clue words. But then it dawned on me that it can't be that simple. Remembering that Hogan's Heroes was produced by Bing Crosby Productions back in 1967 I decided to overlook Google this time and head over to Bing. Without hesitation I entered the above words (pond cowgirl parallel "hear say") into my new favourite search engine of choice and BAM there it was! Screaming out to me only three sites down on the list of search responses was a massive indication of your real hidden message. I was being implored to download Adele's 'Someone Like You'. And the alarm bells were ringing. The last time I'd listened to that song was 5 years ago to this very day (haunting) when my Facebook feed was flooded by friends pricks who thought it would be funny to rip my heart open with reminders of Scully's defection. So there it is. He's gone and about to sign a 5 year deal. But with whom? So following the same approach I turned my attention back to google, entering the same 4 words. And again, three sites down on the list, incredibly, I found another music site, this time from Russia. And sure enough, there was the final clue. Enlisting the assistance of the ever reliable Google Translate, I confidently scrolled down to find a list of the most recently added lyrics and again staring out at me was 'Over the Couds I Meander'. Clearly a reference to Eagles and therefore the West Coast Eagles. It was a fun riddle-filled tryst GNF. Until next trade period.

  17. Disappointed to see so many people happy to see the Dolphins go under. Having grown up in Frankston (haven't lived there for about 8 years) I can say i find this news very sad. A once very proud club no longer exists. Multiple division 2 titles and players drafted into the AFL including our soon to be Michael Hibberd, former Ryan Ferguson, Mark Baguley, Sam Lloyd & Aaron Edwards. A sad day for football.....

  18. I don't know Flamingdee but his info is parallel to mine. My info is correct as it is first hand and direct. There is no "hear say" in what I have written and thus I suspect Flamingdee is not far off the top of the tree. Yet too many cowgirls on this site are prepared to smash and criticise the rare and only info that has some quality and truth. One thinks its time many of you grew a life outside of demonland. It is after-all the worlds smallest pond. For those who want to know where Hogan is at, the above post is worth a read.

  19. Whispering Jack on what was once the centre of his universe ... A HIGHWAY OF DEMONS by Whispering Jack CHAPTER FOURTEEN - CATCH THE WIND Our world was defined by boundaries. The beach to the west, the railway line to the east and Dandenong Road, the northern-most point except when we went to school. Princes Park, where we played kick to kick footy in the winter, cricket in the summer and took girls there until the small grandstand burnt down, was the centre of our universe. We played the Beatles, argued whether the Stones were better, discovered Dylan and the beauty of Joan Baez and her voice. And we were always trying to catch the wind. Then one day (it must have been fifty years ago) he died, his parents' only son and just sixteen years old. I still remember his face in faded monochrome; his sad eyes and mine confronting our mortality. The first-time vision of a small black chair sitting low to the floor. Life moved on. I saw little of his parents after that and, in time, the memory of Alex dimmed although I heard they had given birth to another son. That might have been the end of it if not for the emergence years later of two skillful indigenous footballers from Mount Barker WA who became champions with North Melbourne. The fact that they coincidentally bore almost the same surname restored the old memories. Then some five or six years ago, I read of a young junior footballer at AJAX and wondered if this might be a relative of my long-forgotten friend. Today, along with my firstborn son and his oldest boy - a school friend of that young junior's sister- we are going on a journey beyond the boundaries of my old world to Etihad Stadium to watch him play for the Dragons in the TAC Cup Grand Final. The connections are endless. My son was in the inaugural Dragons squad in 1992 until his shoulder dislocated. The club's headquarters and that of the AJAX juniors where my sons trained and played and my grandson now (and I hope more of my grandkids in the future) plays is located at Princes Park, the local ground that once was the centre of our universe. And there is so much more to this story that bubbles under the surface. Sometimes on a warm summer day I go back to Princes Park and when I close my eyes I can still hear the crack of a ball hitting the willow of his bat, hooked high into the air. I run wildly in the direction of its whirring sound but when my eyes open, the only thing for me to catch is the wind.

  26. Thanks and best wishes from me. Saddened by Grimes in particular. Terrible way for an ex-captain to go out. But at the end of the day we barrack for the team and they are but soldiers. That is the football world we live in.

  27. Meh. Did you see a kid for Footscray the other day called Bailey Dale? He can run AND kick. Pick 45 2014. Brad Lynch off half back? Rookie draft. They're out there, and you've got to turn over the Matt Jones' of the world and use late picks to find them.

  30. I don't understand this post Stuie, are you being deliberately confrontational? fairly certain ProDee is not a member of the footy department ( please correct me if i am wrong) so i don't understand why his post bothers you, it's not like a supporters attitude has any real bearing on how the players are going to play or train, you'd like to hope they'd be a little bit better than that.

  33. I understand the comments about ANB's weaknesses etc, but I don't understand the mentality around wanting to trade or delist someone because they're not "best 22". That's a heck of a lot of players we're going to be getting rid of it that was the case. Reality is we need depth players, we have a salary cap, he's 20 and has shown enough to work with. Heard from very reliable sources he understands his place in the pecking order and is working really hard to improve his game. Deserves more credit, especially seeing he finished 5th in the Liston after playing in a new position this year. Bit of patience required I think, it's called "development" for a reason.

  38. A candid commentary on proceedings: http://www.foxsports.com.au/news/afl-outsider-brett-geeves-on-brownlow-2016-red-carpet-and-dangerfields-victory/news-story/0316816b9091aa53377a0a5aef9fabef I think we would all agree with this: "..And then there’s the Brownlow Medal. — the award for the best and fairest midfielder of the season...The biggest test in this theory was Round 20 when Melbourne beat Hawthorn and Max Gawn got the two votes with Jack Viney collecting the three. I haven’t seen a more dominant ruck game than the masterclass Gawn put on that day...He was the reason Melbourne won that game and it’s disappointing that he was not rewarded with BOG honours. It only furthers the perception that this is an exclusive midfielders award'. Seriously, I wonder if the backchat Max gave the umpire (forgotten which game) when he belted the ball away after a bad centre bounce and the umpire challenged him with 'what did you do that for' and Max said 'because its my job', cost him votes thereafter. Wouldn't put it past them! Oh, there is a delightful video in that article of kids interviewing some places...Lily interviewing Max is priceless!

  39. We have Dandenong. It's up to us to put in the work, but there's talent to be had there. In particular, the club should put some time and effort into developing the African kids in the area. Dandenong has a growing population of Sudanese refugees and their children. If we were to put in the time and effort to work with the community and develop an academy presence there it would pay off down the track.
