Agreed. If we make the finals, our form line will say WWWWW. I know a few have said here that they've no interest in us making up numbers in the finals, but we'd be the form team of the comp if we got that far. I definitely think we'd threaten. I commented in the post match thread how it seems that our young players who should be tiring, seem to be just getting going, and it's made the team look significantly stronger. Boy is it an exciting time to be a Melbourne supporter!11 points

It's great that Oscar has started playing well, thanks to all the advice from Demonland to how hw should go about it. A bit like Jack Watts really.10 points

I heard him on SEN this afternoon suggesting the AFL should move our game v Geelong to the G to get a bigger crowd. Nice try Chris.9 points

It's pretty obvious what I would do. Another alternative is to donate it to a charity for people who tend to lose things easily. Here's a good one: http://www.richmondfc.com.au8 points

Unbelievable, the top ten highlights in the AFL site include the attempted mark by Rioli, has it got to that stage? Maybe we can include any of his near miss goals in the goal of the week.7 points

I'd be pleased for Hunt if he gets the nomination but it really doesn't mean shyte, we know how good he is and we know he will be a super player for us. I'm happy with Hunt, Oliver, Trac, Harmes, Oscar and all our young kids, if Caleb Daniel wins the award, good luck to him, it won't make him a better player than our boys. I'll be happy watching Hunt streaming down the middle of the G, at full pace and slamming the ball through the goals, no one is going to worry about the rising star award then.7 points

I don't think they'll let him run...they'll want him to be able to run out the full four quarters of the grand final.6 points

1987 was the reason I started barracking for the Demons. Didn't have a side before then, I was 9 y/o and got swept up in the "Do it for Robbie" buzz. When we lost the Prelim to the Hawks I was in tears. Since then I've been hooked. Go Dees.6 points

No chance he would not have had the ball in the first place. Dawes is in his correct place. Casey6 points

I doubt Oscar would have developed so much if he played most of the year at Casey. With Frost, I believe the club had little choice - we had no available forwards. Also, it probably helped Frost's game as defender by playing as a forward. Not the first time it has happened for a defender to learn forward running patterns, body positioning etc. Again, Frost may not be as good as he now is without the forward experience. Its no longer realistic to single out defenders one way or the other as it is now a defensive unit not 6 individual players and synergy happens where the result is greater than sum of its parts. The back 6 had to grow and develop together and that has happened. We will never know but I believe it is most unlikely we would have got to this point if Oscar and Frost didn't have the experiences of this season.6 points

Robert Shaw and Mark Fine. Shaw coached Hunt at Brighton Grammar along with Salem and Josh Kelly, and was waxing lyrical about his performance in an APS match (maybe a 'young guns' type match from memory?) where he dominated off HBF. Shaw said Hunt didn't play TAC cup because of tennis, but that he regularly dominated games with his aerial attack on the ball and pace, and it would only be a matter of time before it translated to AFL level. To be honest, I was shocked at the time how much they were hyping him up; starting to see why now.6 points

Pedos bump was worth his place in the side plus his hanger. Only wish he nailed that goal.6 points

This 8 day break came at the perfect time. We only get a 6 day break between the Carlton and Geelong games... although Geelong also have a 6 day break for round 23 and will be returning from Brisbane... hope its 35 degrees up there this coming weekend..6 points

Can't believe the lack of love for Pedo. I really enjoy his physicality and attack at the ball. Feel more confident with him in the side and think he works well with Hogan. Agree on Oscar Mac. At the start of the season I was nervous as hell when he went near the ball, now he's looking safe as his brother. May end up the better McDonald?!? Would love to have seen Trenners make it back into the side but at this stage he'll likely finish his career elsewhere. I'll take Garlett over JKH for now - he knows where the goals are.6 points

ANB is the one that I am not certain of his position in the team... I think he needs a run of more than 1 or 2 in a row for us to see exactly where he sits at the top level... Was in good spirits during the warm up... On the boundary giving $hit to Bugg when he was having shots... I think he offers more than just being a fringe player and I for one hope that he has a ripping pre-season and breaks his way into the side on a more permanent basis... Clubs need players like ANB to keep others on their toes!6 points

Just watched the game again. I'd almost turn for this lad.6 points

Also, full marks to the Melbourne supporter who was cheering right near the Foxtel mic throughout the game. Loved every minute of it.6 points

So the question for the collective. If - IF - we win both and are in the box seat come Saturday night...are people going to the game? Fully planning on showing up entirely in Melbourne colours and turning it hostile for North.5 points

And now he is our fourth rising star nominee for the year! Congrats oscar, just rewards for your efforts this year. Maybe now some other "supporters" on here can start getting behind you more.5 points

I always had a soft spot for Daniel Bell. Had the worst peripheral vision ever, but I'll never forget his BOG game on Scott Welsh that day at the 'G. He played a blinder!5 points

I just love the fact that he looks like he would be the type of player who runs around packs looking for the cheap handball, when in fact he is as hard as anyone in the team. His tackles are great, he runs into packs with no fear, and he loves to go in hard. For someone who weighs 3kgs, and looks like a Disney princess, this kid is just a machine. Obsessed isn't the right word for how I feel about this guy.5 points

Before Roos and PJ came along we were playing a VFL standard team in the AFL. Now we're playing an almost AFL standard team in the VFL.5 points

I am. Don't think we need or want him, considering the probable cost. If Essendon are keen to send to us for Terlich, then I wouldn't turn him away, but our trade currency needs to be used to target an upgrade to our backup ruck stocks, and some serious pace to add to what Hunt brings.4 points

Serious question...... With Frost and OMAC improving quickly and Tommy boy re-signing- Are we all fairly comfortable to leave Hurley alone? How does everyone feel about these 3 being core defenders for the next 5 plus years?4 points

Not to get ahead of myself but I have us playing GWS at Spotless in the semi final, should GWS finish 4th and lose week 1.4 points

Was just thinking yesterday, footy is actually exciting again. Not just enjoyable but actually exciting. Peter Jackson and Paul Roos (as well as the support cast of coaches/recruiters) cannot be thanked enough.4 points

Interesting fact: at no stage this year have we finished a round in any position on the ladder other than 9th, 10th, or 11th. Not sure how often it happens that a team just stakes out a spot dead in the middle of the table in the first round and stays there for the whole season. We're currently 9th and the lowest we can finish is 11th, so it's likely to stay that way. I wouldn't say no to breaking that streak in round 23 though4 points
