With Dad in hospital and looking the worse for wear I decided to take mum in and get around the old fella. So glad I did as we got him out of bed for first time in a few weeks, sat him up and we listened to most of the match together while I got some decent sustenance into him. He's a Blues fan but also loosely followed the Demons through the Barrasi years and then when he went over to the Dark (navy blue) side! Even said he carried Ron's bag into Princess Park on his first day, Ron changing into full Carlton regalia to address the charges as fully fledged Blues captain/coach. I couldn't wipe the smile off Dad's face when we hit the front in the last and went on with it and he even shed a tear of joy as we sung the song at the end. To Mr Roos and the boys thank you for making today a special day for my dad. I wish I could have been there but it's still a day I will never forget. I salute you. One small but very important step for the boys.... one meaningful leap for the Club and its long suffering supporters! The Mighty Demons are back!!!33 points

Just got a msg from a whorethorn mate, "we played shite, Frawley in and we would have choked you guys, you better thank the afl for your win, as the only reason your here is cause they bailed you out". He is cut deep, and I love it. Not even going to reply, just let him stew on it.20 points

Nathan Jones - 30 touches, 11 tackles, 18 contested possessions. That's why, my friends, he is our captain.19 points

when you watch the replay. late in the last quarter they show a shot of him where I reckon he was close to tears. today he and PJ achieved what they set out to do. I feel so indebted to those two and the likes of Jonesy Watts and Jetta for sticking through the dark years. we've transformed17 points

We deserved that...and we won it too! Great debut by the weed. Viney, Gawn epic, Tyson. ..[censored] all of them! I think Watts is a bonafide star, he just keeps going. The Brayshaw, Petracca, Choochoo midfield combo is going to win premierships. How was Clarry's one handed pick-up and tackle shrug?? What the actual [censored]?? Just so bloody stoked and the Hawks can go and get [censored]. P.S Also loved watching Eddie just now have to commend the weed and note how his whole family were going for the Dees. The Pies can also go and get [censored]. Go Dees!15 points

From what I have heard there have been 6 clubs hotly pursuing Tom this year. In saying that, should be hearing some good news on that front in the coming weeks. As well as Oscy14 points

It's Member Appreciation Week at the MFC and I was (presumably one of 22) members who received a phone call this week thanking us for attending every home game and inviting us to the ground where we will be presented with a jumper by a player after the warm up. So keep an eye out for me before the game.13 points

Was enough force to rock Watts' head back and he might get a week for it hopefully. He's been dishing out cheap shots his whole career and is one of the most cowardly gutless cheats to play the game in my lifetime. Nut punch to Daniel Kerr, repeated corkies against players who he knew who just couldn't beat fairly. Sam Mitchell is undeniably a sh*t bloke.12 points

The last two weeks has seen Nathan Jones will us over the line. Epic performances. Viney just refused to be beaten in every single contest. Ran all day. Max was simply unstoppable. Rioli is a dog. And gone for that hit on Oliver. Mitchell is gone as well. Watts is a believer in himself now. Brilliant go to man. I loved the way our guys refused to be bullied. In fact they did the bullying. Oh, and the umps were appalling again. Today was the day the Melbourne Football Club came of age and signalled to the rest of the football world that we will no longer be pushovers.12 points

Take out Cyril and that was a 10 goal win. Add some decent umpiring and its 12. I think we have a pulse.12 points

This is why we play. Anyone still think we haven't improved? I've been happy before, but I've rarely been "we just destroyed Hawthorn on top of the ladder and we lost 13 in a row to them" happy.12 points

Had the great pleasure of watching the game with two close Hawks friends and a bevvy of Hawthorn supporters at a local pub up here and I think I can safely say I represented the red and blue with the vociferous support they deserved. Called the game midway through third when we'd answered their challenge. We were always going to win today. One for the true believers and the break out statement game we've all yearned. Whose shout?11 points

I can confirm, I have today been told by a reliable source within the club prior to the match that Tom has indicated he will sign on to stay within the next month. Finer details still to be worked out, and it will be for less than he could have got elsewhere, but he believes in the direction of the club and wants to stay here with his brother and mates. Fantastic news.10 points

Oliver was absolutely sensational. Seriously. I watch him very closely and everytime he gets the ball the ability to just spot a player in a contest and release a handball is absolutely mouth watering.10 points

I'm as excited by today as I have been for just about any game this year. That will change if they don't have a sustained crack, but I think they will. We will have 8 top 10 players (bid or selected) out there, who are the core of our future. I believe today's side will be one of the youngest teams ever selected outside of the expansion clubs and Carlton round 22 2007 in the tankfest against Melbourne.10 points

It really is a case of men against boys in today's clash between the Demons and the Hawks at the MCG. The average age of the Hawthorn team selected for today's game is 26½ years - almost four years more than Melbourne's average age. The average games differential is slightly above 80 (137.0 to 56.6) in favour of the reigning premier. The figures suggest a blowout but the spirit of the decision to play our youth and the quality of these young men suggests to me that it's not just about today but rather, about next year ... and the year after. Of course, at this time of the season, it seems like it's always been about "next year" for Demon fans but I seriously think there's something about this group.9 points

Other than Salem this is virtually as good as we get from a pure talent point of view. It's hard not to be excited. (although I still live in hope - perhaps misguided - with Trengove)9 points
