I'm still in Papua and will change my flight on Saturday from Denpasar to Melbourne instead of heading back to Perf if Trenners is named. I'm sure the missus will get over it eventually. #925 points

Jesus picket fence will masturbate for days over this announcement! Ollie Choo choo ! Ollie choo choo ! Get the rhythm.14 points

Spoke to someone close to jack, he put his hand up to play 2 weeks ago. Selection committee were cautious bringing him in against gcs at metricon (wanted him to play another vfl game) and against the quicker bulldogs. Initially thought it would mean we had this game in mind. Look to see him in the squad of 25.13 points

How the FK does Colin Garland keep his spot.. Unbelievable..9 points

Oliver: "It was a very easy decision ... I thought I'd get it out of the way and get it done with because I was going to sign eventually." I wish some of our other players took this approach.8 points

Dont believe these words actually came from the mouth of a player manager, without first fielding offers from other clubs. “It was a very easy decision. My manager said ‘just go with it’ and I did. Whoever the manager is, i wish he looked after all our guys.8 points

Was told today at Bushies training.. Don't know when the announcement going to be.7 points

No wonder why he had such a big smile on his face at training yesterday7 points

The biggest issue was not his speed as such it was the lack of power he had in the contest. He had no leverage off his foot and his contested work suffered. If you watch a player like Dom Tyson, who I would suggest Trengove has covered for pace, he (Dom) is rarely, if ever moved off the ball in a contest. He has enormous strength through the core. Trengove similarly was very strong in the contest, a great example of that was the Danger tackle where he rag dolled him. It was sad to see Trenners not being able to influence a contest, you could see he was broken. The Casey reports have him back and inside the contest dishing the ball out and/or using his smarts to get on the end of the ball. Hodge, Selwood, Thompson, Bartel...these are a few that don't have great leg speed but have footy smarts and are strong at the contest. Trengove has the same smarts, if he's injury free I would expect the power to be back and that is the vital ingredient to have Jack back and on his way again.7 points

I'll be just as happy as when a slow, over-weight David Schwarz trudged onto the G against Adelaide.7 points

Can't find a training thread but thought this article deserved some attention. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-05-18/tyson-ready-to-go-against-lions Its no wonder Gus is being rested. Tyson is quoted as saying he messaged Gus on Tuesday and was still groggy. Training news: Watts on light duties. Focusing on clean ball taking on lead. M Jones and Frost in rehab group. Tyson's back seems ok for him to play this week. Lumumba not out on the ground. Kent ready to return. ANB in 'stellar' form! Some cool pics ftom today"s training http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-05-18/photo-gallery-wednesday-may-18 Is that Vandenberg in a few pics. Bodes well if it is. Missed a few games so may need a few Casey games.6 points

Well the way I see it is as follows, Dunn is a better kick, longer and more accurate, he is a better mark, is physically stronger, is less intimidated by opponents, is more effective up forward, is prepared to run and take the play on, is quicker and is better on the big guys. Think that is a good start. He was our regular full back and was pretty good over the last few years. To me Garland is a timid flanker being asked to play key position and it is not working.6 points

Would love to see Trenners put on a back flank and play a similar role to what Boyd does for the Dogs. We need a football brain back there and a bloke who can create with vision and foot-skills. Would love to see him back against the Lions this week.6 points

Nice of Jordie to put it to the top of the goal square with a rain-maker from 35 metres out.6 points

Spoke to Macca at training yesterday and he said Trenners had put his hand up to play but he wasn't sure when it would be, but he's officially in the selection mix.6 points

Good to see VDB back at Casey. Hopefully he runs himself into good form soon.5 points

Take with a grain of salt, but word I've heard is we should expect an announcement around the bye with both Tom and Oscar signing longer term.5 points

Missons update on the club website has told us a bit about the injured players. Lumumba is still showing concussion symptoms so he can't come in to replace jetta this week. I think we will see grimes get a gig and play down back, as we dont have many other small defender options for the likes of green and zorko at times. Kent sounds right to go as well and he did play out the gold coast game with his back, so i suspect he may come in. To conclude, i dont think ANB is the lock this week some think he is. Oh, and vanders will play for casey. Make no mistake, a fit and firing vandenburg gives us a real point of difference with his size and speed. Even when he played poorly this year he still added a few goals against gws and north. Cant wait to have him back.5 points

Looks like ANB finally gets his chance. From the MFC website...."with ANBs recent performance in the VFL, he'll come in the side" (Paul Roos)4 points

You're kidding right? He has been down in 2 losses we have had, and was sorely missed on Sunday. Frontal pressure and his ability to find space make him very much an automatic inclusion.4 points

It's not so much "hate", it's holding him to account. Last year he said the Saints wouldn't win a game, this year he said Melbourne would win 5 or 6, because he couldn't "see where the improvement was going to come from", and he also said Hogan would prefer to play with Freo's midfield in years to come over the Dees. He regularly makes a goose of himself.4 points

Those wondering if we have too many inside mids/not enough outside run, Prestia can run all day, no he isn't the quickest, but he isn't slow either. Plus the likes of Vince and Jones aren't going to be around forever, the need to continually regenerate the engine room is very important. As already stated, quality is quality. we are yet in the picture to start picking and choosing, ala Hawthorn, for specific ready made replacements. We still need to just get quality on to the list, the worst it would do is create even greater depth. The only thing needing to be considered is at what cost do you try and bring in quality.4 points

Quickest hands in the west... I cringed when I wrote that, and yet I still posted it. I have issues...4 points

As has been mentioned multiple times in this thread, he can play inside and outside. Clearance machine. Tell me. How many gun inside mids do you think we have currently? Viney? Tyson is coming along, but inconsistent to this stage in his career. Jones is okay... Vince on his day. Jeez, we overrate our list. Prestia is a proven player. A proven young gun. So Oliver and Petracca might/will get there, but Prestia walks into our centre square clearance team. Jones plays on the half back flank, as does Bernie. They're injected into the midfield when required, otherwise let the young guys go at it.4 points

He was playing on one foot when he last played... Why the negativity? Imagine if he came back and played as well as he did in his first season.3 points

Get him in, the Buzz and excitement this will bring to the group will be amazing. He has earned his game get him and ANB in he is another that has really banged the door down3 points

Well... while not what I initially thought, it's still huge news in itself that he's put his hand up for selection. Let's not overlook that great news!3 points

Driving your head into an opponent is considered having prior opportunity (15.2.3 a (iii)). So you've got to get rid it or give up a free. The umps dept should rule that if you CAUSE high contact, eg by lifting your arm in a tackle, that's prior opportunity and you have to get rid of it or give up a free. In the McLean video, (eg) where N Jones gave away a free because his arm moved high, McLean would have had prior opp and because he made no attempt to get rid of it, holding the ball. They already have an "interpretation" (in a video on the AFL web site, and naturally not in the official rules) where drawing high contact by ducking into a tackle is considered play on. (Yet they're still not allowed to be tackled high?? Gets more confusing the more I think about it.)3 points

With the reduced rotations and the AFL looking at reducing them further the club needs all the quality mids it can get.3 points

Happy for the bandwagoners to hop on - they are the ones that will get us to 50k members in the next few years and shore up the club. As for Tom McD. He is up and down this year but his capabilities are immense and as soon as he and the backs can settle into how we are 'zone defending' at the moment the better. Also, the backs are getting blamed for goals that are more the fault of the mid and forwards that have effed up the press furhter up the ground - that's why there have been so many goals to opp players all by themselves in the 50. We gamble and it sometimes doesn't pay off.3 points
-
Yeah, why did the Cats bother with Dangerfield when they had Horlin-Smith struggling to get in? There are inside mids and there are quality mids. ANB is an inside mid, Prestia is a quality mid.3 points

Good thread bb. Can I put in an early request that if someone disagrees with a player's name mentioned for trading/delisting, it is not responded to with snide remarks, losing one's bottle, personal insults, or anything that leads to a thread derail. A simple counterargument will suffice. Cheers.3 points
