The kind of patella tendon injuries O'Meara has are a huge concern. Much the same with chronic Achilles issues. He would be a big risk for the future, and I'd be surprised if any club would give up anything of real value for him. Prestia must have had some chondral (joint surface) damage going along with his lateral meniscal tear, on account of his continued absence. This is also concerning. How the joint stands up to repeated weightbearing can be unpredictable. Some develop intractable irritability (Clint Bartram, career over), some settle and develop medium term longevity (Luke Hodge). If MFC are really a chance for either of these two, there would have to be some very deep consideration of their likely longevity in the game, or for JOM a return to the game.12 points

Howe's manager has behaved like an opportunistic tool, and the MFC have refused to get jerked around by him. Heard this from the relevant people at the MFC. Pleased the club is finally acting with some metal in relation to unreasonable player demands. Shows how far we've come as a club. Disappointing for Howe in some respects that he, or his agent, has inflated views as to his worth.8 points

I'll try and bring it back on topic... The article was terrific and the part that stood out to me is that Roos will be focusing more on further building up our culture and habits during his last year as senior coach. With Goodwin obviously taking on more responsibilities I think it's terrific that Roosy will further focus his efforts there. With such a young list we have the opportunity to make sure these guys are ready to go so that they can model these habits to any new draftees or players to the club. As each year goes by I get a little more confident that we are, truly, headed in the right direction. There is still plenty of work to be done but we now have the right processes in place to take us where we need to go.5 points

This guy is an immense talent. He just looks a jet. I'm surprised he wasn't able to cement his spot, but he has had injury concerns.5 points

You reckon Toumpas is worth more than Melksham ? I have no idea how you process that. Fwiw, Chris Pelchen said he thought Melksham was worth in the vicinity of 20-25. He said he's an untapped talent that had the excellent combination of speed and endurance and had the lowest skinfolds in his draft year. I keep harping back to 2013 when in his 4th year he averaged 20 possessions and kicked 16 goals. He finished top 5 in the B&F and Essendon finished 7th. If a trade was mooted at the end of that year he would have been worth pick 10 and Essendon would not have traded him. How much has coaching and ASADA ruined the last 2 years ?5 points

It's time to thank all those who have contributed to Demonland during the past season and to all those who post here or simply visit and read without posting. We value your contributions and ongoing support - especially to Nasher who keeps us going on the technical side, to our moderators whose task is often thankless - especially so when we go through yet another season where the wins are outweighed by the losses. Special thanks to our regular contributors, Whispering Jack, George on The Outer, The Oracle, JVM, KC from Casey and all others who have contributed. Once again they have had to report on games and subjects that have been difficult to write about in 2015 because of our club's lack of on field success. We're all looking forward to a bigger and better season in 2016 and that the stories and news we bring you will be more uplifting and exciting than those gone by in recent times. We are always looking out for new contributors who have something to say about the mighty Demons. If you want to contribute an article feel free to contact me via PM. Cheers & thanks again. Im happy for Howe just to go. The return will be whatever it is. Now this is not because of any befuddled hate or contempt for the bloke . It's simply based upon the notion that the club is building a team that plays as a team. Its undoing the shambles of a collective of 'talented' players that in all reality play with no cohesion. Howe is just such a player. He plays a bit of a solo agenda. Hes not alone...or wasn't. For mine i can't see a place for him in an effective team. Good luck and thanks to whoever takes him.4 points

If the floated Prestia deal is not on, I'd certainly entertain a Howe-for-Anderson deal. I'd like the Hawks to add a bit to that though.4 points

Just a quick question.... many are saying that this year's is a weak draft, so what just exactly is considered a weak draft? The reason I ask is that on looking at the top 10 finishers in this year's Brownlow voting only Dustin Martin (at #3) and Dangerfield (at #10) were top 10 draft picks. The rest were Fyfe (the winner) #20, Priddis #31 in the rookie draft after being overlooked in 3 or 4 previous National Drafts, Sam Mitchell #36, Kennedy #40 (Father Son), Hannebery #30, Mundy #19, Ward #19 and Goldstein #37. If this is something that is repeated over multiple Brownlows (I haven't checked all, but I'm sure this year is probably not an exception), then surely the idea of a weak draft is a bit of a furphy.3 points

Of all the young Hawks not getting a game he is the one I would target. Has some speed and likes the tough stuff. Ticks plenty of boxes for mine, I would expect we have made an approach3 points

he a willing competitor but is lazy at our club.. 'our nickname should include lazy in its description'. in other words he doesn't exert anywhere near his potential can. In a powerful club loaded with great culture & motivation, enthusiasm to push way beyond, is infectious... its like restrictions are lifted off... ..... ours has been like sheep following one another. when lazy & soft leaders set a tone, then no one really dares to venture far from that.3 points

I reckon GWS have youth coming through that they believe will squeeze players like Bugg, among others, out of their best side, so they don't rate certain players as high as they should. GWS have some [censored] talent running around in the twos.. So that maybe why they haven't offered Bugg a contract, that and he must really want to come home, he's been linked with a trade home for a couple of years now I reckon..3 points

Funny that. Was speaking to a St Kilda country recruiter who scouts all the kids up the bush and we were at a Murray Bushrangers game and we got on the topic of list comparison and he mentioned that Hawthorn rated Salem a genuine top 3 selection in the 2013 draft. If they had pick 2 they would have called Salem out. He just fitted the bill for Hawthorn. Left footy who is tough and courageous in the same mould as you.. you guessed Luke Hodge. What makes it more exciting is Hawthorn think he enormous upside more then Kelly and even Jack Billings.3 points

Players of McCarthy's potential don't come along often. Freo's 2 first rounders will be picks 16 and next year 12-18. A great investment for their future. Do you realise that Hawthorn gave up 2 1st rounders via trades for Shaun Burgoyne, who had just come off a knee injury? Clubs like Sydney and Hawthorn have been paying what the media buffoons consider "Overs" to get players that they need. And look at the success that it's brought them.3 points

Salem could be the biggest midfield story of next year if he makes the transition there. He is a gun.3 points

Goodes reveals he almost retired after booing controversy Unsurprisingly, he almost considered not coming back after the awful treatment he copped from the notoriously awful West Coast fans. I'm certainly glad he did. Not only did he leave with his head held high, but he almost single-handedly dragged the Swans back into the game against the Dockers. An absolute champion of the game, and the best player for the Swans since they moved to Sydney (IMO). He's done some questionable things, but who amongst us hasn't? Well done, Mr Goodes. You're an ornament of the game, more than worthy to sit in the company of Bob Skilton and Barry Round, two men who you've name-checked as legends of the Bloods.3 points

Last one it is going to cost Pick 6 and Howe. GC have formally agreed its just convincing A or B to leave this year. Prestia is weighing it up more so now more then ever as he feels unwanted that GC would consider it and Jäeger is just concerned with the dollar. I've said to much. I am done.3 points

Tyson 187cmBrayshaw 187cm Salem 185cm Trengove 185cm Vandenberg 188cm Petracca 186cm Vince 187cm Michie 185cm Melksham 185cm Harmes 185cm Nothing wrong with our midfield height at all. Infact i would say these guys are all solid mature bodies that Roos particular likes. Go look at Hawthorn and they aren't a big midfield either.2 points

I can't believe some of the picks teams are considering giving up for average or unproven players Mcarthey is talented but not worth 2 first rounders. Yarren imo is not worth pick 122 points

Jed Anderson is in a whole different league to Melksham, Kennedy, Bugg and all those players, if he's on the move and we aren't chasing, he either has some huge issue no one knows about or the recruiters are off sinking pizz under a tree.2 points

This guy is absolutely the guy we should be gunning after. Way too good to be languishing in the VFL.2 points

I believe Salem will be a mid in 2016 and will in the not to distant future be our best mid, he's got some serious attributes to be both good on the inside but genuinely dangerous in space as well, reminds me a lot of Luke Hodge2 points

The guy who finished seventh in our best and fairest just signed on for three years, basically committing to finish his career with us. Impressions are that he is not on any grand amount of coin, either. He has given a glowing endorsement of the club, its new coaching group and the younger players coming through. We all know his main deficiency. Yet, so does he - I know that I’ve got a great relationship with my line coach, Jade Rawlings. Simon Goodwin has come in and he’s a great offensive coach, which I know I need to keep working on – in terms of that side of my game. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-10-07/we-now-have-premiership-players-garland So exactly what is the point of the endless supply of hate-rants about him? Some people need to pack up their ego and poorly-handled emotions and move on.2 points

A former pick 4 who hasn't lived up to his potential after 3 years is quite different to a former pick 10 who hasn't lived up to their potential after 6 years. In no universe are they like-for-like on the trade table except in Dodoro's eyes (and that's exactly the reason you know they aren't like-for-like).2 points

Nah, right now. Best inside mid we have. Leads the club in average Contested Possessions and Clearances in 2015.2 points

This is all part of the List Management strategy IMO. Like him or not Melksham is a massive upgrade on Bail Kennedy is 22 and from a potential perspective offers more than Riley. Bugg only 21 and is a better player than Mckenzie. It increases the depth of the squad no doubt.2 points
