MFC needs consistent hard-nosed players with a win at all costs attitude, no more "marketing opportunities". How have his marketing features helped us in the last 4 years? The people who don't want to trade Howe are probably the same who ridiculed those who wanted to trade Jamar (and others) when his value was at its peak. He has something, that's why he's a good trade option. You won't get anything for Bail or McKenzie but Howe might get us a decent player in return that will add more value to the team than he does currently.7 points

The kid is 19 and has played 10 games. Do you want him around for ten years or 1? It is not as though this game was going to get us into the finals. All the will change is the size of the loss.5 points

From Justin Plapp's round 9 player review: Mitch White: Whitey played really well on the weekend. Some of his 50/50 contests and one-on-one stuff was really strong, particularly in critical contests. He had 15 possessions, one tackle and eight marks. Two or three of those marks were from opposition kicks, where he got himself into really good position and impacted the footy in the air. He was also able to close out his opponent really well. Whitey is growing and improving at a really good rate and he’s a pleasure to coach, because he follows instructions. He’s showing some really strong improvement, so he was one of our better players.5 points

They're 1-2 this year and the only win they had only happened because GC continued to miss easy shots on goal despite dominating the run of play. They should be 0-3. We shouldn't be writing this game off because of where it's being played, or because of the opponent. This is the worst Geelong side since 2006, by quite a margin, and they are eminently beatable at any ground. Doesn't mean we'll win of course, and Enright's 300th will be a massive game for them which doesn't help. But unlike 2007-2014, this shouldn't be considered a complete write off.5 points

Think I'll rearrange my sock drawer Sunday and fast forward to Brayshaw highlights late in the day.4 points

I'm intrigued by Fitzy's fall from the team. Surely he's worth a game? Jordie won't offer us anything in the midfield. At least Fitzy might up forward or back. I dread to think of our forward structure this weekend. Doesn't make sense.4 points

3 touches for 2 clangers when you come on halfway through the third quarter isn't going to get you a game the next week, ever.4 points

Really? Was injured over pre-season. Has developed nicely. Getting better every week.4 points

On a side note, did anyone notice this story about swimmer Kylie Palmer yesterday: http://www.theage.com.au/sport/swimming/kylie-palmer-denies-doping-as-swim-bosses-lose-hope-of-quick-hearing-20150618-ghreul.html? The interesting part is that it happened in 2013 and FINA (swimming's global body) decided for a variety of reasons to let it go but: "But in February this year WADA requested files regarding Palmer's testing before compelling FINA to issue an anti-doping violation to the Australian." It highlights, again that sporting bodies adjudicating their own athletes will err on the lenient side. WADA action in February could be coincidence but: - In the aftermath of the EFC saga is WADA reviewing 'lenient anti-doping decisions' for other Australian athletes? Unlikely. - Does WADA have new testing techniques? Whatever the reason for WADA's delayed action the outcome isn't good for Australia's clean sport standing in the world.4 points

Yesterday 17th June. Myself and my wife and our little boy ( 4 ) was invited to see Jesse Hogan. I sponsor him and we missed the breakfast the club has scheduled with him the other week due to my wife Illness. I spoke to lovely woman Celia McDonald, who nothing seemed to be a problem. Explaining my wife illness to her, she helped us re arrange a date and time, for not only us to have a chat with Jesse but to hand over the letter our girls had done to Jesse and Jack watts, Celia showed us around AAMI park, Put up with out 4 year old running around, Harry O smiled at him waved hello while he was on the Bike, all players we saw took time to greet us. Jesse was great, we talked for over 20 minutes about football, pinball and any and everything , how he thought we would be unstoppable in 4 years. His training, he was on a modified program yesterday , all planned and part of what he has to do. I am guessing not pushing too hard. He signed my little mans jumper, and played with him. A very Genuine bloke and we all appreciated the time and effort he made for us. As I said a Big thank you to all involved, the Club, Jesse and Celia , made a old mans day and was happy my wife could now smile as she was upset at missing the breakfast. Thought I share my story and say thanks ...4 points

Great story hope your missus recovers. My brother teaches one of the coaches kids and the club sent out 6 players to their school a couple of weeks ago. The school is pretty affluent and get a fair few players from different teams visiting. My brother said that the MFC players were easily the best, Jack particularly, that they have had. Just went with the kids and took everything thrown at them (as 10 year olds will.) He has decided to not bother with other teams and only going with Demons (and Dogs) as they are superb with kids and do not treat it as a chore. This from a Magpie supporter and player sponsor. I love hearing the community side of the players and reckon more should be reported (all team players). These are young men and I would be proud of any of them if they were my son.4 points

Those comments are misguided, wrong and frankly should be banished from this site. Our supporters should know better. It is not an equal competition. Geelong make $750k from a crowd of 20k at their home ground. We lose money with 20k at the MCG. We don't have corporate box revenue, signage etc etc. The fixture is full of compromises with ANZAC day, Derby's, clashes of traditional rivals, friday night games, QB games, twilight games, broadcast times etc etc. Teams get dudded and we are one of those. We play Richmond at Etihad in the past. and have played Geelong once at the MCG in around 11 years from memory. We usually play Essendon at eth G as an Essendon home game. When we draw against a decent Melbourne club we get good crowds so the argument about us not drawing crowds in franky [censored]. The AFL has a draft and salary cap which goes part of the way to making the competition even but WCE and COllingwood spend $300k A WEEK more than us on their football departments and its because of the situations outlined above. This is partly why there is an equalisation fund. FOr our own supporters let alone ignorant opposition supporters and media to spout that Melbourne, North , Bulldogs etc are getting handouts is infuriating. Stadium deals and fixturing are killing the game and the clubs. The clubs collectively are massively in debt with I think only 3, in surplus. Those that are getting Equalisation funds are not being fully compensated for the rorts that are going on elsewhere. Yet ignorant media and opposition supporters claim that they are 'supporting' weaker clubs etc. The AFL need 18 clubs. If you didn't have them the broadcast deal would be reduced heavily. We are not a team on welfare but a founding memeber of the competition that has been dudded on a number of fronts and that his kicked a number of own-goals as well. The more people start to recognise that the better, and the more that campaign for equal treatment will see us competing on an even footing.3 points

We aren't playing finals this season so couldn't care less. Would rather they manage his loads for longevity when we win all our flags in 3-7 years time.3 points

I am happy to play them there as well, although I do have issues with rules for some and not others. Why for instance do Collingwood or Geelong get the option of playing a Geelong home game at the G so Geelong can earn more money? Guess I answered that in the question, unfortunately the AFL has let the integrity of the league be overruled by the almighty dollar. Sorry to those of you who fell off your seats laughing while reading the words integrity and AFL in the same sentence.3 points

This is the only answer. FFS stop feeling sorry for ourselves Kardinia Park has grass on it with 4 goal posts at each end 4 points are up for grabs Win and get the fcuk out of there.3 points

He was probably the most influential player in the game tonight though 'Moon'. I think he gets a lot of undeserved wraps but he was good, his tackling pressure and the way he hit the contest really provided WC with a launching pad for the win. When he was on ball WC were well on top, when he rested the Tiges came back.2 points

I changed my tip to Richmond right before the bounce and almost instantly regretted it. That first quarter has been depressing viewing, indeed. At least the meltdown will be glorious if they lose; their skills are far from top 4 standard.2 points

Hamstring tightness. I would rest him...we keep our supporters interested for the rest of the season rather than just one game.2 points

Yep, Max is a ruck who can rest for minimal time forward. Spencer is the same...not sure how we will hide them.2 points

While I'd rather Hoges to Dawes, I'm actually rapt that Spencer will get another go and we are now certain to win the majority of hitouts and with the way Gawn has been palming them, it's going to take Selwood's best work to stop us getting our fair share of clearances. It also means that if Gawny tires, he can be rested up without any issues as while Spencer is ungainly, he certainly is fit. It also means that Blicavs is going to have work extra hard to have an impact and will be relying on Walker to set him up. I'm assuming now that Watts will go to him in the third-man up situations, as I can see Crossy playing on Stevie J now. Geelong are also missing heaps so don't get too pessimistic - it's not a cert that we'll get belted and we've certainly picked our best side for the big ground with quite a bit of run. To me it gets down to whether we are intimidated by venue and history and the trash-talking and umpy pressure that Mackie, Selwood and Stevie J apply. If we can negate their well-deserved arrogance then we can do some damage. Don't forget we still have our core midfield group playing - sure we'd all love to see Kent, Hoges, Vanders, Frosty, Garland playing but ultimately most games are decided by clearance dominance. And with Nat J, Tyson, Vince, Viney plus Riley manning Enright and Crossy on Stevie J, then we have a chance. We just need Toump, Watts and Stretch to provide the run and carry at this ground and you just never know.2 points

I hope Brayshaw plays on Selwood at some point. He tackles better than anyone else on the team, and Selwood hates it when he can't get free kicks.2 points

You're a sorry lot. McKenzie comes into the squad of 25, which doesn't mean he's playing... We'll find out tonight anyway. If posters had a long term view of what our team is going to look like in three years time, they'd realise bringing in McKenzie or any other second-tier player who's been solid in the VFL makes much more sense than bringing in one of our underdone kids who are still developing. This is entirely about developing a really strong seconds side with kids having to earn games. McKenzie and co won't be around next year. We wont be playing finals this year. So why is it so hard to see a bloke like him come in rather than a kid we're trying to develop? I'm rejoicing that the club is doing things like resting Hogan when his body requires it. Think ahead demonlanders.2 points

May as well rest Hogan for the certain west coast loss in Darwin. That way he'll be fresh for the Essendon and Brisbane games coming up.2 points

We have a big advantage on a lot of teams. We have an easy draw overall. How would you like Hawthorns draw? play the top teams twice? they are giving a easy draw year after year in the hope we will improve but we never come to the party. If the AFL ever move to a 17 round comp, the different between Hawks/Swans and us will be even more stark.2 points

We also get Queens Bday as a home game every year. It ain't a conspiracy, get over it.2 points

I reckon Vince will go to Selwood, but I'd be tempted to put Viney on him and tell him every time he raises his arm high to make the tackle slip high, continue with it harder and wrench his neck. Do that a few times and he will stop, or get injured, either way helps us.2 points
-
Agreed. Vince is the giant slayer, give him the biggest gun to match up on every week Agree also, with Viney's propensity to smash humans, and the greatest ducker that has ever played the game, and the home crowd screaming bloody murder, we would see a lot of white maggots' arms pointing n the opposite direction that we would prefer.2 points

I'm not being a pessimist-for-the-sake-of-it here, but the line on sportsbet is 33.5 points to the cats. One glance at our extended bench tells you, there is no way we are getting near that, easy money... 33.5 will be the quarter time margin. FWIW I am pretty happy with where we are headed as a club, but with this fixture and our injury list this can't be anything other than an almighty shelacking. God help us.2 points

Nothing to do with the tv audience. It's all to do with the stadium audience. It is the way the game has always been played and it doesn't need to change.2 points

We could always try asking the opposition players, they sure seemed to know what was going on......"Tally ho old chap, just wondered if you knew what the ruddy time was!??"2 points

They can't continue to drop Michie and bring him up every 2nd week and expect to make an impact. Give him 6 games in a row to see what he can offer. Im a fan of his and he has been unfairly treated.2 points
