You have to give credit to bail and jones for still giving their all to get a win for Casey. Still important they keep pressure on anyone who doesn't perform.26 points

Ventured down today and was good to see them get the win while not playing their best. Credit has to go to Coburg for turning it into an arm wrestle, but Casey certainly missed Neal-Bullen and Michie as they were smashed out of the middle. Here's my thoughts on Melbourne's players: Chris Dawes: Competed hard all day and laid a lot of hard tackles which was good to see. Didn't really clunk any big contested marks, but kicked the sealing goal late. Needs another week at VFL level baring injury to Hogan or Pedersen. Jordie McKenzie: Was busy and kicked a goal in the final term. No major blunders, so not a huge amount to say about Jordie today. Ben Newton: Was very suprised to see Newton listed in the best. I barley sighted him today, especially after half time. Not saying he was, but at the 3/4 time huddle he almost looked disinterested with his arms crossed. That just could be him though, so i stand to be corrected. Oscar McDonald: Solid game without being spectacular. Spoilt well and is starting to back his pace at running off his opponent a bit more which is good to see. Mark Jamar: Was very good today i thought. Dominated his opponent in the ruck and took a few marks and got more of the ball around the ground. Missed a shot at goal in the third term he should have kicked, but i reckon we'll see him back in the team for Darwin Mitch White: Very good today defensively and offensively! Reads the play well and constantly peeled off his man and set up a number of offensive plays. Was quieter in the 2nd half, but another encouraging display. Jake Spencer: Solid game from Jake. Managed to take a few marks around the ground and kick 2 goals which was good. Wasn't as dominant in the ruck as Russian was, but he's kept his name up there. James Harmes: If it weren't for Max's bag of 5, this is the guy we would have been talking about. Was BOG to half time in my book, winning plenty of clearances and getting it on the outside also. Seemed to drift out of the game in the 3rd term and early part of the 4th, howevet when the game was in the balance he came back late winning some clearances out of the middle and driving the ball forward. Was the guy who set up McKenzie's mark and goal for Casey's 2nd last. Another thing i liked about his game was when he did make the odd mistake, he fought to win the ball back and make sure any error wasn't costly. Rohan Bail: Probably the best game i've seen him play. Was a real link man providing plenty of run and actually used it pretty well. I wouldn't love the odds of that translating into AFL form though. Matt Jones: Got plenty of it and ran hard, but he didn't seem to have the impact that Harmes & Bail had for me. Seemed reluctant to move the ball quickly and i thought stifled a few potential quick entries in the 3rd term. Max King: What can you say. A month ago i had this guy penciled in to be delisted. Now he could be anything! Played stay at home forward, but he's agile and kicks it beautifully. Don't think we'll see him lining up for the Dees anytime soon, but he's certainly one to watch. Also i should mention i though Morris from Casey was great and most consistent over the 4 quarters. Very creative and was our best when Coburg were on top in the 3rd. Hutchins was also great. Was a one man wall across half back, cutting off several forward thrusts from Coburg. End of the day Casey probably should have won by more. Were 7.0 at one stage, and from there kicked another 7.13, while Coburg kicked straight all day. Thought they were in trouble at 3/4 time, so did really well to fight out the 4 points and end of the day, that's all that matters. I'll also say for those worried, don't be concerned about Viney withdrawing tomorrow. Goodwin said Fitz has pulled up with a niggle, so Terlich is the carry over player.12 points

Congratulations TDI on landing your new job. I hope you have a considerate boss who gives you a flexible enough timetable to allow the odd visit to Gosch's Paddock11 points

Typical Melbourne supporter stupid attitude. What's not to say that Dawes hasn't given the goal assist to King for each of his goals? Or that Dawes hasn't done a truckload of running and drawn the best defender. In fact Dawes and Jamar could have the best 2 defenders and King could be playing on some 3rd string VFL defender who's 188cm and 90kg. I can guarantee that we will see Dawes in a Melbourne jumper again before we see King.9 points

The scoot is a good selling point, it shows I am a well balanced individual One of the questions was "demonstrate how you can handle a difficult situation, can be either real or imagined", I said I am a semi regular contributor to Demonland", they said "the job is yours"8 points

I'm disappointed both our number 2 draft picks aren't playing .8 points

Disagree. He is very versatile, being so tall and quick. Yes he is no champion but he can still improve. He can play ruck, forward or back and can snag a goal. If played forward, he is actually not an easy match up for opposing teams. We have several others who will go before him.7 points

Why TF are we comparing him with just Collingwood players? Anyway, I think he's more like Brody Grundy.7 points

To be fair, while I don't disagree with the above statement, they would play majority of their game time in the midfield when they're in the VFL hence the high possession numbers. When they're called up to Melbourne side they're assigned specific roles, generally defensive forward roles and therefore don't get those numbers that people are expecting to translate from their VFL form.3 points

First player ever to not leave MFC as a free agent. Loyal and dedicated. Always would be one of the first selected each week. Let's hope the boys play with their heart and soul for Lyndenn as he always does for them and get the win3 points

The kid hasn't even played a league game yet already there are comparisons to Brownlow and Norm Smith medalists. Is there any wonder when a draftee doesn't fire we are so gutted? Lower your expectations guys.3 points

The medicos have fixed that issue, I asked him, just unlucky first up As for the comments on his fitness, he is another Cross, trains when he doesn't have to, both he and Stretch were really fit when they arrived at the club3 points

We've been decimated by injuries and ANB is coming off a good run of form in the VFL. The Saints are a young side. Absolutely the correct call, just as selecting a raw Brayshaw in Round 1 has proven to be. I haven't seen much of ANB, but he clearly has no trouble winning the football. 35 possessions at his age is an amazing achievement in the VFL. I expect him to make a good fist of it.3 points

He also led the warm up lap when training started to a lot of banter, plus the handshake, plus the confirmation with me, expect him to debut Other points from training, the hamstrung group, Salem, Vandenberg and Kent did about 30 minutes and then left During one of the match sim/ball movement drills Roos got very angry and 'bellowed', unlike his usual approach, think it was a case of the players completely ignoring what he and Goodwin had just told them Toumpas looks a completely different character at training now, a lot more relaxed, think he is getting used to being in the team and will continue to improve3 points

Wanted to make a thread for this, huge achievement during tough period at the club and hands down champion and good bloke. Works tirelessly in the back half and deserves a pat on the back Wel done Lynden.2 points

No training is about carrying out a task/role/skill over and over until it becomes second nature, then when the pressure comes you can still carry it out, we are getting there, Roos gave himself three years, it is only year 2, out best is a lot better, he is working on the worst, his pet peeve is players not listening, you will see Plapp mention 'coachable' and 'listens' in his reviews. We have a realy good coaching panel now, if the players listen to it we will get somewhere. When Roos bellowed, he and Goodwin had spent a couple of minutes explaining something, the players ignored it, not surprised he went off2 points

I say, invest in current favourites at reasonable prices. They will be old, rare and expensive by then.2 points

I had a not too dissimilar problem incurred while playing squash when I was 20 years old. I looked after it and continued playing sport, albeit nowhere near an elite level and it came back twice since at recurrent intervals of 20 years. With luck ANB can do better than that and have a long, healthy career.2 points

McDonald will play on Riewoldt and Dunn will take Bruce. Howe and Grimes will probably take those mid size type forwards (Grimes on Membrey for example) and that will have it covered. We've made the mistake before of going in too tall and I think this week we've got the mix just right.2 points
