  1. Was just reported on channel 7. Personally awsome news. Its showed that him missing has been a big blow for this club. His direction and leadership on field is something we are lacking at the moment. Well done Crossy! Good hard country tough nut!

  2. The first thing he has to do is bite the bullet and make another application for draft assistance. If the rule allowing for this is on the books then forget the politics, we need to apply because its plain to see that after eight years, we qualify and we need to take advantage of every legally available means to help our recruiting people improve our list. Watching Casey struggle today against a team that has decided to fold at the end of the year merely reinforces my viewpoint that we are being held back by a poor list that lacks depth and strong measures need to be taken.

  3. What a spud - gave us literally nothing today

  4. The last thing we need is to help Judd with his pension plan. Despite his skill and ability, he would only clog the list for a year and keep a younger, developing player out of the team. No thanks.

  5. What i learnt from today's game: -Tim Watson is having a family lunch tomorrow for his birthday. -Jobe didn't get a present and left it to his sisters. -Apparently Tim's wife is a great cook. -Tom Harley's kid is named after Jimmy Bartel. -Maybe the umpire was sorry for Melbourne after a free kick. -Tom Harley's guns are still pretty big. The worst commentary EVER!!!

  6. I don't think PJ was brought in for his list management expertise.

  7. Very impressed by Riley. Big bodied mid who can kick and tackle. Leave him in the guts for the rest of the year to build more fitness for Pre season. Well done Aidan.

  9. And the last time our CEO got overly involved in the football department, it didn't turn out too well

  11. If I was the man with the contracts I'd take it year by year. It's only prudent with a man his age. As a supporter I have the right to get as far ahead of myself as I like. Cross seems the sort to be able to play for quite a while. He's never relied on pace, and the fact that he hasn't had any soft tissue injuries has to be a good sign. It would not surprise me if he made it to a third or fourth season with us.

  12. On another note, just Wikipediaed him and found this. I had never heard this and surprised more is not made from it. What a *ucking phenomenal bloke. Goes as follows: "On 4 October 2007, Cross and teammate Tom Williams leaped into the water of Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong to rescue a schoolgirl attempting to commit suicide. Despite the girl not wanting to be saved, they hauled her to safety after hearing bystanders screaming for help. When they emerged from the harbour they both had minor bruises and cuts. Both were reported to be in good spirits after the incident. Following the incident, both Cross and Williams were awarded certificates of commendation by Hong Kong's Director of Marine."

  13. I can see now why Adelaide fans were keen to keep him! Plenty of grunt, gets where the ball is and is creative. Lets see him develop into a very good ball winner next year! Well done today!

  14. Ffs, this is a FOOTY FORUM - there will be discussion! Further, we all watch footy and most will know a good player when they see one. Stop blindy posting blue sky commentary. I also find your training reports creepy - there, I've said it.

  15. Hard watching the dogs suns game, a couple of seriously good young teams getting real value from their high picks

  16. Just got back. Bail and Grimes do my head in. During the 1st Grimes has a easy kick to dawes on the lead and butchers it, Bail snaps on goal and misses everything, Grimes handballs to a team mate under pressure in most of is contests. Grimes should have been subbed for Terlich. The comedy of errors plus the very little effort made for a boring ugly game.

  19. What a depressing group of grumpy old men this place has become. It's like walking in to a bar with your new wife and having a group of sad old men tell you all the sob stories of how horrible their divorces were. Everybody is so comfortable being miserable that they try to shut down anything that might give them hope. It's become 'cool' to be the most depressed person here. I thought it was good to hear Kent saying those things because he's a WA boy and good mates with another WA boy, who happens to be the most important player on our list. That he wants to put it on record is a good thing.

  20. Roos hit the nail on the head when talking about a lack of team offense and players stopping to have a rest once the ball was in our hands Team offense just seems a foreign concept as it has for several years. It seems to be all about getting the ball out of congestion to a free man and then hitting the pause button while the sod with the ball in his hands looks up and sees a bunch of players standing still. He then eventually kicks it to an outnumbered contest and the ball quickly comes back the other way.

  21. People will say they tried... I saw no pride in most of those players performances. No motivation to take a mark in the wet or nail a kick in favour of a team mate. I get so depressed with this team.

  22. I agree with the original post - it is really, really important that our CEO, as head of corporate decision-making, involve himself more in the football-specific decision-making at the club. Because it has worked out so well in the recent past. Sigh.

  23. Killed on the outside today. AGAIN this proves why Picket Fence is clueless and shouldn't be taken seriously.

  24. Todays game actually showed the exact opposite to the point of your thread. We actually held our own in contested possession but were outclassed. It was outside on the spread and effectiveness when we had it that cost us. We lack class and run.

  25. It's kind of funny isn't it, a thread about our lack of inside mids, in a game when we were smashed on the outside, Our errors and lack of skill has cost us 100 points in the last 2 weeks imo

  26. This has to be the worst thread of the year. Contested possessions today were virtually even. We got beaten in uncontested possessions by about 60. Also well beaten in uncontested marks.

  27. a few years back that would have been a 150 point loss. Halfway through the 2nd quarter if someone said you would only lose by 66 Id gladly have taken that. Viney was brilliant and even got under the skin of some cats players. cannot wait to watch him in years to come Riley was great and I hope he plays out the year Garland did a great defensive job on Bartel keeping him really quiet Dawes battled hard and its difficult when you have 2 on you Watts is always an easy target from fans when we lose. Yes it wasnt his best but he had friends that were also in the same category Frawley proved today no club will pay him 700-800 grand Also we just couldnt stick our tackles where as geelong did

  28. Let us put today in perspective. Geelong are coming off ( and still contain) elements of possibly the best team seen in the AFL. Our bllokes are coming off the floor. I notice that in the 3 word assessment failed to take in : * The quality of ball coming into the forward line * The pressure on our backline ( I cannot accept that Frawley was disinterested as alleged ) nor can i accept that Grimes is a liability. At this moment some people are too intent on consistenly scapegoating Grimes, Garland ,Frawley ( because of ....) and Mc Donald. Consider we contained Geelong to near enough 100 points today, which is a huge improvement on recent times. Need to keep things in perspective when playing top 5 sides.

  31. I think after a promising start, the players have switched off. Can't handle the pace of a long tough season with little incentive remaining.

  32. 100% agree. It has been this way for many years. Yet the club give him a captaincy... Grimes effort can't be questioned... but his skills,Game & leadership are just not up to AFL standard IMO.

  33. I think the first thing PJ needs to do is sign on for the long haul himself and then get Roos to commit for at least another couple of years.

  41. I know a lot of Doggy fans and they are still very unhappy he was not retained by them. They feel their is a leadership vacuum at their club. Their loss is our gain.

  42. Yeah I can't see us taking Judd for a year. With Casey showing such great form and our young mids performing so well down there I can't see a spot on the list for him. It would create tension within the playing group when Nicho,Strauss and co. Are competing for a spot on the list with another hack like Judd.

  43. I'm with the nays, but not because of some of the petulant people above who only seem to not want him because they're still bitter about how he handled us half a lifetime ago. I just simply don't see the point. There's a very big chance you'll get nothing from him. If he had anything left to give, Carlton would keep him.

  44. Is it just me that thinks cross could play even longer than that?
    3 points
  45. I was absolutely stoked that we signed Daniel Cross last year, and, to date, he has exceeded the very high expectations I had of him. His on-field presence is sorely missed at the moment. In short, an extremely important player for this club. This is really good news.

  48. No. Turned us down when we were any real chance to get any value out of having him at the club. He is now a shadow of his former self and would lucky to be best 22 at most clubs with the way his body is deteriorating. Definite no.
