Having just read Brett Allison's comments on our players in the VFL, I'm reasonably confident we'll play one man short against the Bulldogs with Terlich and no-one else coming in for McKenzie and Cross.6 points

I have supported Frawley and said he would be a massive loss but now I reckon he is seriously gone and I couldn't give a flying toss to be honest. Everyone knows the club is going in the riight direction. If we win 7 games this year and he moves he will look like the biggest fool and idiot going around.5 points

Are you mates with Roosy did he actually say that to you?Just finished reading the Wayne Carey book and he mentioned he met with Paul Roos after the cheating saga and he put to Carey a Lucrative package to join Sydney. He turned it down because he believed Adelaide was always his go and was basically his hometown. In Barry Halls book he mentioned how Paul Roos met up with Fev in 2009 about the possible of joining the joins. Again turned it down. Fev also mentions this in his book. Just because they are characters doesn't he completely crosses them off their list Saty. Talk about over reacting. He has the ability to turn these blokes into footy hero's Heck he even inquiried about Dustin Martin last year when he got the coaching gig. For Paul Roos if a player was available that would fit our need (Fyfe, Dangerfield) of course he is going to go after them. Not oonly does Roosy wants to set a direction for the club he wants to win! He will do what most supporters would do and thats chase after the best players. He has an ego and I like it. PS I am religiously into sport autobiography reading if no one has noticed.4 points

It's really quite irrelevant whether they knew or not. They should have known. And they should have been concerned about 'secret programs' on the 'cutting edge' involving many thousands of injections in a clinic across the road without supervision from the club doctor etc etc. I am not buying the poor players line. Maybe one or two of the juniors but the rest, they should have known better. Wouldn't be the same bleating about the 'poor players' if it was the Chinese swim team at the Olympics. WADA couldn't really care about Essendon or the AFL except for the fact they want big scalps as a deterrent.3 points

Actually, getting the desired answer is the best outcome but many are not interested in the fact that ASADA needs to properly follow the principles outlined for it in relation to the issue of Show-Cause notices and it may not be able to do so until it has received the appropriate legal advice. Given the tendency of one or two parties to litigate the issues involved here which aren't helping anyone arrive at the right answer, I think ASADA is following the correct course. But some here are not interested in that.3 points

People saying that Roos wont go for the big name players are kidding themselfs. Roos met with and offered Wayne Carey and Brendan Fevola lucrative offers to come play at the Swans. They both turned it down. Dont be surprised if Roos does go for a fyfe or a Dangerfield. He wants to make this club better so why not go for the best in the business.3 points

Viv knows both Wallis and Libba really well. He was their captain in the private school rep team. Don't know where the query over his defensive game comes from because he was totally defensive in the 1st Qtr against Box Hill. I don't reckon he got a possession in the first qtr but ended up with 30 , 5 tackles etc and should have got a goal but for a rabbit umpire calling his shot on goal a point. ABC replayed it and showed it was not touched. Really don't know what game Allison was at but all pundits have said Viv was BOG.2 points

The WVFL has organised free tickets to the Dees vs the Dogs this weekend. Far as I can tell, the tickets give you entry for both the women's game, and the AFL match that follows! You can get two free tickets per person. Get along and cheer on Daisy and the girls as they smash the dogs, before Jonesy and the crew belt their seniors as well! Perhaps young Bobbi will be a father-daughter recruit to the Dees AWFL* team. Here's a link, instructions are there. You have to sign up to the dogs mailing list, and you have to be really patient with the website, but you get two free tickets so you can't complain! *We couldn't call the new women's league WAFL, for obvious reasons, but I don't think we can call it that either!!2 points

I think most reasonable people would consider the desired outcome to be one that involves uncovering the truth and achieving a result based on an application of the rules established by the anti-doping code. That's what happens the world around and I don't think athletes in this country should be treated differently to those of any other part of the world whose sporting bodies subscribe to the code. It's that simple.2 points

No, I wouldn't wish her majesty's pleasures on anyone else. not even the bum Hird What I'd like to see hear of, would be for the AFL level competition, to give him a right Royal rogering of a sendoff from the coaching fraternity; with a Conga-line of Ex marines AFL Hardmen, to salute him on his way as he parsed them by.... Lets remember that like Carey before him, after serving his penance, he could be wel-comed back into the flock... after he's found the error in his ways deep within him self. No-One AFL person is above the well-being of the game itself. ..... many leaders, in recent times have allowed some to wander too far off the beaten track; in the Sports Sciences, the Salary Cap structures within clubs, Recruitment, the Laws of the Game Committees, Fixturing, Fans going to games & being shepherded into areas they don't want to be, Food & drink prices The treatment of the fans is akin to a shearing shed... These leaders have allowed all to wander too far off line, like a Buddy set-shot. Hird is both a prik in the backside of the competition, & also a victim of the Wins-First Mentality, Over & Above the Good of the Game & the Competition itself. These people aren't thinking of the supporters first in these concepts, but of their own Ego's Desires first... that's why the game has run off course with the public... they are trying to screw the public for all they can get from them. TV viewers & attendances apparently are suffering because of This treatment of treating us all for Mugs. The Honesty we all took for granted as Australians, has been devoured by Greed. When this happens to all of Us, from within our most loved passions, its over... small case in point, the teams when readout are nothing like what you see on gameday. They are Eating their own.2 points

What we do know is that the players placed themselves in a VERY vulnerable situation to improve their performance. My experience with injections is that I have them done with a medical professional who shows me the label which includes the name of the drug and the expiry date and it goes down on my medical record. As a professional athlete bound by a drug code it is staggering that this approach was not taken. I accept the greyness around the issue, the pressure to do the team thing and have empathy for the players but they sought to gain an edge in performance over their rivals and took a number of careless risks to do so. They are now paying the price for those risks and if they can't tell what they have put into their bodies they have some responsibility for that.2 points

Players being given injections of anything is a huge step beyond maybe having someone dope their drinks. A huge step. Surely it is way way overdue that any injection, be it anti-inflammatory (like cortisone), or even local anaesthetic for injury management or for suturing, be documented just as it is (or at least should be) in any medical practice. Were a GP or other medical practitioner to inject a patient with anything at all and not record it in name and dosage would be seen by AHPRA and their Medical Board as a serious act of malpractice which could result in a period of suspension or even deregistration. For a club to countenance players being injected with anything at all without full documentation of name and dose is at very very least, grossly irresponsible and a total failure in governance; in my mind it borders on criminal. It certainly dwarfs into minute insignificance the "bringing the game into disrepute" that an offhand joke regarding a practice colloquially (but not defined or specifically outlawed by the AFL) known as "tanking" was seen to have done, and should at very least result in a quantum leap in monetary penalties, and in suspensions for those involved NB in this case the head coach.2 points

He hasn't been struggling, he's young, been injured and playing in a rubbish team for most of his career. I would take him at MFC no questions asked.2 points

Yes. If they're innocent, prove it by handing over the records of what the players actually took If they fail to do this and get off on a technicality, it sets a terrible precedent for younger sportsmen and women and puts us right up there with East Germany and china. Technicality? Jeez. If you get enough slimy lawyers (present company excepted, of course) onto any piece of legislation they can find a loophole somewhere.2 points

What did the French ever do to deserve that? (apart from nuclear tests in the pacific, Napoleon, and imprisoning Matthew Flinders) :-)2 points

Whatever happens, he has had a disappointing year. He went back last week in the second half, where the ball was all the time and managed 1 possession for the half. His passing now consist of bombing it a mile in the air. He doesn't seem to chase. He really seems disinterested. I think he is gone.2 points

Good defenders win finals. Think Scarlett, Lake, Hodge, Doull, Ayres, Archer, Pickett, McLeod, Duckworth. Very few forwards have won Norm Smiths. They mature late and often play until their mid thirties. Chip is 25. I hate the way he has gone about his contract negotiations and I think he is gone but it's silly to say he is no loss.2 points

He's already a very good player and an excellent prospect to develop into a top defender. He is driven to improve, wants to play on the best opposition forwards and after playing for Melbourne through three of our worst years ever, was not broken by the experience. He has courage and an iron will. Tom McDonald would be picked up by every team in the league if we discarded him. In fact, he'd make the current back six of practically every team in the league. 21 years old. GUN.2 points

If there's one thing we can be sure of, it is that a North Melbourne tall forward on his last legs will have a final hurrah against the Demons. It's as frustrating as Daniel Bradshaw or Peter Matera record against Meanwhile, Tom McDonald by the numbers on sunday - 18 disposals at 77% efficiency, with 3 clangers. Also, ten 1%ers. If I recall right, McDonald has been not just our leader for 1%ers all season, but has been the leader in 1%ers in every individual game. The kid goes alright. Definitely has flaws. Got beaten by someone taller, more experienced, and better supported.2 points

The only problem with our back six is we don't have the rebounder, like Nick or Harry, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Malceski or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heritier_Lumumba, as soon as we have this type of bloke we'll be laughing. I reckon Tom is fantastic for his 1% efforts and run with ability, easily pick up a gig in any team, but we are never going to be Manchester United, where everyone has a great kick. I too get a twitch when he goes to kick, but it's his other talents that are why we should keep him. Pair him with the right rebounder and we'll have a defence as good as the Russians at Stalingrad (If Frawley stays as well). I also think we need a Nick or Harry more than a midfielder or forward, the slow kicks coming out of our backline is what puts pressure on our midfield and forwards. I ache to see a few more flat hard passes that gives our attack time and rewards all the good work everyone is doing.1 point

i don't know if he's worth pick 5 on his own, i'd probably want brayshaw instead if that were the case I reckon we will take stretch at 23 if we need too, he's just what the doctor ordered in terms of pace, skill, bleeds red and blue and outside run1 point

Watch port adelaide bid their first rounder on him.As for coniglio, I reckon we could get him with pick 5, but don't know if they'd give 24 back?1 point

I am glad we have progressed to the point where we can put lines through promising kids names. Why don't you look at his age before you determine his fate? This thread is a steaming bag of nonsense. McDonald is a promising tall defender who needs refinement - he will be sticking around.1 point

The only problem I have with him the moment is the lack of his signature on the contract waiting for him at head office.1 point
-
The problem McDonald has is he needs to know his limitations. Too many times he tries to run around or take an opponent on too much. If its not that its trying to be too cute with his kicking. But unfortunately we dont have the dashing half back flanker with sizzling skills to feed it off too. Haven't had one since Aaron Davey use to play there and set us up.1 point

The complete lack of leadership shown by his delaying of talks is reason enough not to have him at the team. You're either 100% dedicated to the cause, or you're not. So take your stuff and get out, we'll take the compo and find players who want to play for us.1 point
