  2. What's wrong with this Roos bloke? Doesn't he read Demonland?

  3. Disagree he'll be dropped. Seems less likely now. That is hardly a "spray". Here's a team of young men who have played 50+ games of unaccountable football with ZERO guidance. Watts may as well have played 20 games. It's like this team is being taught defensive fundamentals. The likes of Howe, Watts, they may as well be starting their careers over again. They haven't really been held to account for how they play football. This was probably to be expected.

  4. Controversial? Absolutely not, you're entitled to your opinion. Out of curiosity though, did Dawes have an affair with your wife or something?

  5. What exactly did Clisby or Strauss do on Sunday at Casey that justifies them replacing Terlich in Melbourne's backline? Terlich had 3 'clangers' on Saturday night (behind Viney with 6 and equal with Pedersen, Dunn and Matt Jones, all with 3). However, overall he had 16 possessions, with a DE of 81.2% (ranked 3rd). He also had 8 marks (ranked 2nd) and 6 tackles (ranked 4th). Supporters let 'clangers' cloud their judgement about players, probably because when they happen they are so prominent. The rest of the work he does, which is most of it, is very good and I doubt Roos will want him dropped, including for the example he sets.

  6. So glad we picked him up. One of the few constantly good competitors in our season so far. Remarkable to see that he's just turned 31: the way he's going so far he could play on for at least a couple more years. How embarrassing it must be for one or two of our high draft picks. Mr Cross thank you for choosing the Melbourne Football Club.

  8. For probably the first time in Jack Watts' career, he is receiving some leadership from the senior coach. He is the most talented player at the club and it is in all of our interests for Roos to be given the time to find the key to unlock his potential. Great leaders (as against great managers) often display the flexibility needed to get the best out of a group of individuals. Ultimately, Jack Watts will decide if he loves football and the club enough to realize his potential but, until he does, cut him some slack. We quickly forget that this is his first extended shot at playing midfield and all the feedback from teammates & coaches is that he's worked his arse off to try and make it a success. None of us know what instructions he's been given and, at the end of the day, the coaching team will make the call. Just remember how happy most of us were when he re-signed this year. At least recognize & acknowledge his loyalty to the club when others are playing hard to get.

  9. Not an ounce of laziness in any of the recruits we've gotten this year. That's one thread they all have in common. Expect 7 or 8 more just like it at the end of the year.

  10. Some peanut has played the game and sport at professional level knowing a little bit about injury management and rehab, knows family and friends of Hogan, you have tunnel vision and don't realise we are no different in this respect to any club Please go and do your homework on Richmonds management of Richo's lisfranc injury Geelong with Hawkins back Brisbane with Brown's knee Essendon with Hirds issues with his feet in the late 90's Meth Coast with Natanui's groin issues over the last 2 seasons Freo with Sandilands turf toe and it's recurrence Port managing Hartlett through his early years Reiwoldts management early on after going pick 1

  11. He's doing a bit more than that. He's downplaying the heat that has come onto him from fans and the media (see comments from Nathan Brown this week as an example). From someone in his position, it's probably a wise move. He doesn't have the luxury of giving up on Watts like many supporters do, and have exercised.

  12. Compare that with when JKH kicked his. Only three players made the effort that day - the two forwards in his immediate vicinity (I can't remember who they were) and Frawley, who was still playing in defence then and made the effort to run right down the ground to congratulate him. You can't convince me that this team somehow has greater respect for Salem than JKH, so I'd say the coaches were horrified with the team's lack of care in the JKH instance and told the team so. Hence, the much better reaction when Salem kicked his. It's disappointing they had to be told but on the plus side, pleasing that they responded so well.

  14. Georgiou will be unlucky to get a week for that. Lowest of impact and it was meant to chop Franklins arm so it was accidental. Might get points with a reprimand. Franklin should be reprimanded for throwing himself on the ground like a spoilt brat - over acting and crying like a baby.

  17. Well done, Roosy. This is clearly the way to play Jack. You've just gotta keep nurturing him until it clicks. He realises how important Watts could be. I'm glad Roos is the coach. He'll sort him out.

  21. 6 years of chances? Different positions aren't the problem, it's his intensity that is the problem. Intensity, attack on the football, pressure, tackling etc. are non-negotiables in every position on the ground!

  22. Gosh watching that press conference in full reminds me how lucky we are to have this man as our coach. Inspiring, empathetic, encouraging, knowledgeable, straightforward and realistic.

  23. We are learning to lock sides down and that is a real plus for when we can get our midfield and forward line right. That is the start of the way back. Next get game time into the possibles and improve the list.

  24. How did Franklin get off for terrible acting? I couldn't knock that man over if I was driving a bulldozer, but Georgiou took him out with a mere touch.

  25. Roos is obviously trying to get the most out of Watts by using the carrot rather than stick. I think this is the correct approach. (Although Watts’ game on the weekend would have tested his patience and I would always pick our best 22. I doubt he is in it the way he is playing.) I also think Roos realises he has more chance of improving Watts’ intensity and turning him into an AFL footballer than he has improving the skills of the alternatives (McKenzie, Nicholson, Evans, Fitzpatrick etc).

  26. lol It's quite clear now that he won't be dropped. Discussion can now turn to what he needs to do against the Crows to restore some faith.

  27. Whilst it wasn't Georgiou's best game, there is a lot to like about his attitude. Love the way he stood up to the $10m man. No backward steps, no beg your pardons. Alex didn't give a stuff Lance is a superstar and he was pick 347. The glamour boy dives like a soccer player, lies on the ground until he realises he ain't getting a free then jumps up and carries on like the overpaid prat he is. Franklin should be suspended for bringing the game into disrepute. Georgiou joins Cross, Viney and Jones in my list of players who I don't need to worry about if they will give their all on the footy field

  29. And i am saying we don't have to exchange like for like this week. Attitude is what we replace Watts with. His attitude has shown it will not change. Don't worry about the silky 196 credentials right now. Give me a blue collar tryer who can grasp a chance....(Pederson style) Watts is not a fighter

  31. McDonald was good on Buddy, kept him to 1 goal which was from a cheap free kick early. Also had a good 2nd half vs Carlton after Henderson beat him early.

  32. Watched the game with my old man and i have to agree with his comments on Watts. "Get him off the field and put someone else on that will tackle and chase"...I cannot defend his lack of endeavor anymore. I don't think he'll ever be anything more than Jog Watts. There was footage shown before the game with Cameron Ling pointing out Watts' chasing in the Gold Coast game. Chris Dawes sprinted from 15m behind Watts and chased Watts' man, didn't manage to tackle him, although put him under pressure all the while Watts just jogged along like it was never his responsibility. People are surprised that players like Dunn, M Jones, Pederson ect are improving while others with more talent aren't. The simple answer is that players willing to put the effort in and can play a roll are the type of players the fit the Roos game style. I'll be happy to see those players that think they're above the team, or in some way special and don't have to play by the team rules, moved on at years end.

  33. A real leader would've dug his heels in and forced a change in culture. He's a pathetic sell-out.
    3 points
  34. Was going to make a post about that. The fact that every single player, with no exceptions, came over to congratulate him was CLEARLY a direct result of the rubbish they showed for JKHs first goal. Would've been along the lines of "you want to play as a team, then start acting like one."

  35. Surely it's not that hard. He jogs around aimlessly rather than applying pressure and sprinting to the ball to force turnovers. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know what he's doing wrong. It's not a skill deficiency, it's pure laziness.

  37. Cross is on target for our B&F. Junior didn't get top 10 GWS playing with 18 year olds for memory. From an on-field-viewpoint, we "missed" Junior because we were so deplorable; and the past looked better than present and future. From a pure playing point of view, it was time for Junior to go when we told him father time was up.

  38. Now where are those that said he was another skinny outside kid? Salem was known for his kicking and his hardness, that's what he brings. Now lets just let him develop, as Robert Shaw (his very proud school coach) said on SEN today...it only gets harder from here.

  39. Although he only played little game time one thing became apparent, revealed when he kicked his goal; his second efforts, and willingness to compete. Competed for the mark, got spoilt, went the ball, got knocked off it, went again, grabbed it under pressure and drilled one home. Competitiveness and the will to win the contest is what this team needs, and what Crossy was disappointed that some people didn't do in his post-match interview. i also saw him drill a beauty to a forward on the lead, very composed. Keeping a lid on it, but looks like we could have (another like Tyson) beauty on our hands. Early days, but with Roos and his team and their seemingly successful drafting/trade period looking the goods from last year, i am bloody excited to see what happens this year!

  40. He played mainly midfield, but also up forward at times. Actually presented pretty well as a medium forward at times and showed good hands overhead. I think he has a lot of good 'footballer' traits (good hands, hardness, etc) but alsoI was very impressed by his pace for an inside player. I think that we have a good AFL level footballer here in the making.

  41. What's the problem? I wear a Demon scarf if I go to a"neutral" match and want to wear a scarf at all. It just shows club loyalty. Not compulsory but not an issue IMO.

  44. Totally agree. Just keeps doing his job. Roos must love him. And I'll be disgusted if he gets any sanction for standing-up to Buddy. MFC have not had such "spine" for years!

  46. C'mon after all the crap we went through with Scully, the fact Hogan wouldn't entertain a contract extension, is from Perth, will have the WA sides knocking down his doors, is unable to get on the park to form a bond with the rest of the team, the performance of the team and perception of the club and was quite happy to have a photo of himself wearing a Freo scarf publicised on Instagram I think those of us who are a little sceptical as to where this will end up have a right to be.

  47. I rang up SEN last night (I was Aiden from Geelong although my name isn't Aiden, but something similar sounding). I spoke to Wallace about Watts and he agreed with everything I said and said he felt the same way; no endeavor, intent, intensity, respect etc. He was as disappointed in his game tonight as I was. Thinks we should leave him on the wing for 5 or so games to basically just go for it, with what I infer means is to play for his career as I believe it is on the line. You can teach kicking, hand balling, and skills etc, but I feel you can't teach bravery, attack and basically "giving a crap." At the moment Jack is playing like he just doesn't care about AFL footy, the MFC, or heart wrenchingly: US, the supporters. Well Jack I am hurting. And everyone else is hurting because I am hurting and I know they care as much as me. You have supporters now who have defended you since day one 5 years ago starting to break from your lack of effort. Show them you give a damn, because we have always given a damn about you. You have it all, just [censored] find it, use it, care about it and stick it up everyone!

  48. I have been a big supporter of Watts. Last night I was calling for his head. His performance was bordering on bizarre. It was as though someone spiked his Gatorade with marijuana just prior to the warm up.

  49. I knew he was a good in and under player, but I hadn't watched a lot of Footscray over the years, so I didn't know the extent of it. Sometimes he ends up first on the ball when he has no right to. I thought he'd be a good match for the club as soon as he became available, and so far I couldn't be more pleased.
