  1. Have nearly finished reading Roos' book of a few years ago, Sport is Life, Life is Sport, co written with his wife Tami. Roos is an unusual person, very moralistic and caring of other people. He does not appear motivated by money and I am pretty sure any stumbling block, would be the attitude of his family. He will not coach us if his family are against it. As well as his media work and part time coaching, he is a very successful motivational speaker and would not be short of a dollar. I have no doubt he will change our culture if he coaches us. The players will grow under him. The club will grow with him at the helm. I can see why we are desperate to get him and the AFL are desperate for us to snare him. Make no mistake, he is responsible for the Swans culture. If our membership didn't exceed 40000 for the first time, with him as Coach, I would be amazed. He will help us keep players and recruit others. He will give everyone in the place renewed hope.

  2. He played 4 games there 25 years ago. Left in less than harmonious circumstances. He's a Melbourne supporter since childhood.

  3. I think another reason he hasn't said he is interested could be that he doesn't want to be inundated with 3-4 offers to coach. If he said he wanted to coach, Brisbane would not honestly chose Voss over him, WCE with their resources alone could match/beat anything that we would put out there as well. I think Roos is looking at the offer on the table by the Dees, just like he would have last year with Carlton. The Dees role offers a very unique opportunity to him to build a list from what was a pretty low place, to build a culture within a club that has known very little success for a very long time, to shape the club and put the resources in place to see this work. Sure you might turn things around at WCE faster than here, but I don't think just getting a premiership cup with another club is enough to entice him out of what he is doing now. The chance to bring the Dees back from the brink to a big club in Melbourne again... to win a premiership at a club that hasn't won one for 50 odd years (just as was the case at Sydney) and to hopefully set a club up for a sustained period of time with a clearly understood succession plan. These are the things he would be considering ... sure the money helps too though!

  4. He is not interested "at the moment". Once the FD is finalised and board in place and is what is expected of a competent club I think a yes will follow

  6. Exactly. KB was saying yesterday he's not the man for the job because he's not 100% committed and needs to be convinced. What bollocks. If he was not keen he'd say a flat out no as he did with Carlton. He's not going to commit publicly now, why would he and why would the dees want that now either. One assumes he want s to see what the makeup of the board will be and try and extract draft concessions from the AFL. I doubt even if keen he'll want to take over before the end of season and an early announcement would make it very hard for Craig and the team to focus on the job. I'll stick with my prediction that he will be announced as coach at seasons end (or close to it). I said Craig would remain as FM but I'll change that to a player mentor/development role. J Mac will be back and he'll bring someone in as his right hand man (eg Ling, Micky O) in the box.

  7. Imagine if Roos says" "Yeah I'm keen to coach". He's not going to say that until the day the appointment is announced.

  8. You have it backwards and so does Mooney. The head of the FD under Jacksons structure is the boss, he and he alone reports to the CEO. Last time I looked the coach was a part of that department so Mahoney should be on the committee as interim head the same as Craig is on the selection committee for the team as interim coach. He is not appointing his boss, he is the boss. Jackson has put structures in place and trust in the people in the interim jobs to do the role they are in place to do. Until anyone else steps up then these are the people that should be involved. Todd's role is an interesting one in representing the players and I think it shows good faith on the clubs behalf where there hasn't been a lot for a fair time now.

  12. Whether the allegedly great man is going to coach us or not, the announcement could not be made before the last round as it would otherwise risk undermining the excellent job Craig is doing now. While he is in contention, Craig can't be seen as a lame duck. If Roos is coming, the gnome could announce after round 22 that coaching is not for him - that it no longer drives him. Meanwhile, the rooster could be hatching plans for next year in peace and quiet (and in conjunction with the club). After round 23 he is announced as coach.

  13. Definitely bending rpfc. But it's just a bit of fun. But also interesting to consider what the game might look like in 5 or 10 years. The MFC have been so reactive over the years in terms of the trends of the game. It would be great to be seen as an innovator and a trend setter. The mobility and the depth of mobility in our tall department is genuinely unique. Why not try to exploit that?

  15. two points that convince me he is our coach in 2014 1: he refuses to say no, strikes me as an honest guy so he is trying to find a way arouns lying. 2: he is constantly defending our list and players now when not 12 months ago he was worse than barett to me that says not only is he seriously considering it or has said yes, it also suggests he is passionate and excited about the opportunity

  18. amazing.. the kid defiantly has talent, and doesn't seem to think he is king s**t like some other blokes that come in (Johnson) hughes' role will be grossly overlooked, played a very mature, sensible knock, that partnership singlehandedly got us back in this game. and now Clarke can set aggressive fields, and the reward for starc 2 wickets.. pressure does amazing things.. cmon boys 6-7 down tonight!

  19. Master stroke from Boof to bring in another batsman, then stick him at 11 and tell everyone he's a left arm spinner. Not every day a 19 year old carves out a piece of history for himself. Absolutely brilliant stuff. Agar might have a few records to his name now but what he's also achieved is remind me why I love cricket.

  21. Viney is always injured. He's wasting our salary cap and a spot on the list. Because he's young I think he'll be worth a lot to other teams and we might be able to get a midfielder in return.

  22. I get it that Lyon stuffed up the last two coaching selections, but really do we have to dump on the guy cos he tried? Garry was one of the few MFC players I have watched in the past forty odd years who could win a game off his own boot. I would always welcome him back to the club, ( Just not on a coaching selection panel). P.S he was also the best step ladder the club has ever produced, just ask Jeff Farmer and Shaun Smith.

  23. With half our team in moon boots maybe we would have an advantage :-)

  24. It would take a long time for the ball to reach the boot. In Fitzy's case it would never get there as his drop involves it goes up before it goes down.

  30. OK, our admin hasn't triumphed in all areas, but why do we have so many on here who think the worst of the admin at every turn without at least waiting to see what happens? When these were posted it was still possible that Jones was planned to be parachuted into Skilled Stadium alongside 3 marching bands.

  31. I totally agree with this, but lets be completely honest, even if we played Geelong on the moon tomorrow, we'd still lose.

  33. I have received this back from the club Thought some may be interested "Thanks for your email. To explain, this week Nathan Jones has done an exclusive with Fox Footy, a segment with his younger brother for the Robbo Show and will do a pre-game interview when he arrives on Saturday. His ‘time line’ was always planned to go up on the site on Friday. In regards to Colin Sylvia, he did his first media appearances for the year on Wednesday compared to Nathan Jones who speaks with the media weekly. I hope this clarifies that we did not ignore Nathan Jones in the lead up to his 150th. Please feel free to contact me in the future if you have any questions. Cheers, Ryan"

  35. I went to training this morning and asked Nathan what was going on......in his typical fashion, said "keeping it quiet''.........I told him he was being "expletive stupid" and deserved every accolade, thanked me, pulled his hood over his head and zipped off

  36. You guys have said for so long Sylvia has attitude issues and that's letting us down. Than why the hell would you want to bring in a player like Chris Yarran who also has attitude issues? You'd be starting forums each week to complain.... Atleast Sylvia is working on his attitude issues and is progressing, i dont see any improvement from Yarran's second season to now.. steer clear

  37. I can't believe people don't understand the argument for trading him. We have a surplus of tall forwards, tall forwards are in demand. We need midfielders, we could trade him for a midfielder.

  38. Craig wants the job, and if Parkin and the rest of them pick him, its a done deal. The way I read it, Roos is first choice, Craig is second, and if Roos says no, Craig will say yes.

  39. Out of my own curiosity I did some research into highest succesful run chases at Trent Bridge to get an indication of a good score to try and restrict England to and turns out the highest succesful run chase at Trent Bridge is 6/284 achieved by England v New Zealand in 2004. So from our point of view, obviously the cheaper we can get them out the better, but to try and avoid needing a record chase for victory, especially with our fragile batting line up, we need to make sure we restrict England to a score under 348. I'm still hoping we can keep them to under 250 so our chase is under 200, but as long as we can keep them to under that 348 mark I'll consider us more then in this game, and at this stage you'd have to say it's advantage Australia, but that can change within a session. Big Day 3 to come, I'll be watching this one at the pub and enjoying a few!

  41. Nasser Hussein is incredibly enjoyable to listen to in a position of English adversity. He's such a massive whinger and sore loser and it makes you realise why England were so bad when he was captain. Such a victim.

  45. I actually think that's a really interesting thought. Could a team carry Clark, Gawn, Fitzpatrick, Watts, Dawes, Hogan, McDonald, Frawley plus Garland and Howe? Could they all be on the field at once? It would be nice to be ahead of the game for once in terms of the next big trend in footy. A plethora of mobile talls with big engines and good skills may well be it. A couple of big inside midfielders like Kennedy and Watson would be interesting in combination with the above key position players as well.

  47. Garry was part of the process (not the process) that picked the last two coaches, others were involved. I think it's time we let this one go. Gentlemen time to get outside and smell the roses.

  48. Clark & Gawn have proven themselves to be injury prone and therefore unreliable. Watts is a work in progress and i can still see him being a swing man when the situation calls for it. Hogan is yet to debut. Nothing wrong with holding on to Fitzpatrick for another few years until we can confirm the others are going to offer us more than him. I totally agree with maurie's post, its not dream team or trading cards! Lets see if Watts and Gawn re-sign before we go too far down the hypothetical trade scenarios!

  49. He would have to be leading our "1-2" count at the club. Sure, he handballs to what appears to be a stationary target, but it is generally becasue he is running his guts out to get the handball back. DL4E - you reckon he has the worst disposal in our team? Bit over the top don't you think? How about starting with our co-captain (#31), if you think he is better than Terls, then look at Bail, Tom Mc, Nicholson. Once you've watched footage of those blokes, if you still believe Terlich is the worst, let me know and I will list others. Terlich actually reminds me somewhat of Nathan Jones in his first couple of seasons. Slightly different roles, but the foundations are very similar for mine.
