PREGAME: Rd 07 vs Richmond

Featured Replies

As a tridents member I was surprised to see that a reserved seat in the outer on level 1 for this game is an additional $38. If that's definitely the case then I think I'll take my chances with the hoi polloi on level 4 which is general admission I think.

If Jefferson is leading to where a teammate is on his own - that is not a good thing.

In fact it is what JVR is learning - and Mihocek knows innately as the best forward at the club.

The great goal Chandler from the flank was possible because he slipped out and JVR stopped his lead to that flank to get Harris Andrews to hesitate on where the footy would go. Culley (who seemed to have eyes in the back of his head) U-turned and then spotted him up.

Jefferson presented well on occasion and if he can push Fritsch up the ground for periods then that means he is playing his role. Happy to give him a month block of games but I haven’t seen anything special yet in terms of his movement and forward craft.

Completely agree

And that Culley u-turn was unreal.

I'd be amazed if T.Mac got another gig. He was ordinary in the reserves and Petty was terrible in the seniors we don't need either. Howes, Lever and Turner are our talls. Obvious selection this week after Lindsay gets managed he comes straight in and Petty goes straight out. I'd be amazed if this wasn't the outcome.

Agree 100%. TMac is not our future. He will go at season's end. As will Adams.

We need to be planning for next year (with two more first rounders) and beyond.

For that reason XT and Moose stay in my team. I too would have Lindsay in for Petty.

Not like for like but Toigs ain't overly tall.

Heaven forbid that Gawn does a 'Sam Darcy'. We'd only win another game if Moose was to step up.

What is wrong with Rivers? He seems to be on the dreaded 426.

I suspect the club is trying to 'manage' his knee and avoid an operation.

In. Lindsay McDonald

Outs. Petty (concussion) Laurie

This is the way, if Lindsay is fit. Give Lindsay more time in the middle.

Hopefully the squad pulled up well today with the short turnaround. As least it's nice and warm for the aches and pains this week!

T Mac And Petty are BOTH cooked and should only be played in extreme emergencies

Are they expecting close to a full house for this game? It's a Richmond home game, not sure how confident those supporters feel about their team at the moment.

T Mac????

That ship has sailed - forever a 2021 Premiership Demon

Thank you for your service xxx

Agree whole heartedly Jumbo.

His professionalism kicking the goal after the siren in the grannie - when I would have just hoiked it into the crowd to start celebrating 5 seconds earlier - is the reason that grannie was our greatest ever winning margin. It's that same professionalism as to why he's still on the list, but (not unlike Maysie), he's now in the "still very capable, but unfortunately too slow" basket.

TMac is slow and in his last year, but we are trying to win games and if he helps us win…

We have enough kids in the team tbh

Hmm that does not sound good.

weather looks good, But Richmond are going so badly they will be down on numbers but to their credit they are one of the more loyal supporter bases who do turn up.

I'd guess mid to high 60K mark, maybe just tick over 70K at best.

Richmond have very few tall fowards, and even less in form. They sent Faull to the backline during last weeks game, Fawcett had none of it, and the week before Lefau kicked 4, but most in the last quarter and a half but hadn't been near it before that. I don't think we need a tall to replace Petty. We killed them with speed in the practice game, so I'd look at CJ or AWM (or both), but if Lindsay is right to go he needs to come back.

Petty was also the primary back-up ruck before Moose came in, as well, with JVR only doing some of the forward line, so that needs to be considered.

I'd go - out: Petty and Laurie, In: Lindsay and AMW (unless CJ is 100% right).

Could Kentfield debut and play down back to replace Petty. Has more speed than TMac.

If his knee comes up after Casey I agree. Kentfield has done a bit down back in Casey last year and practice games this pre season. We need to get games into him as soon as possible. No point in continuing to play TMac.

Yeah, but it's still a special night. Probably the only special night Richmond supporters might have this year. Our performance over in Adelaide will probably give them just a grain of hope as well.

Out Petty concussion, Kossie suspended (Christian rules)

No way Jeffo or Heath dropped given King’s comments in Presser.

In Lindsay and Rivers. (Unless the mystery knee is still there) Riv to defence and Lindsay more on ball. You can never have too many Xaviers.

Um just NO!

I like Kentfield but Jefferson is in front of him. Kentfield only got the ball 4 times in the VFL. Doesn't get enough of it unfortunately.

And Kentfield was ahead of Jefferson in the pre season…

The fact is they are both at the starting line, and I am looking at both of them from the stands waiting for them to get on the blocks.

It was nice to see us going big against Brisbane, who play 6 talls Andrews, Gallop, Zakostelsky (who filled in for Fort), Draper, Allen, Morris on top of Lester and Lohmann who play tall anyway.

We went with 8 bigs - Gawn, Heath, Petty, Lever, Turner, Mihocek, van Rooyen, Jefferson plus Fritsch and Howes who can play on bigs and it meant that Jeffo had a couple of nice runs at it without being bumped off it straight away, although both Broad and Vlastuin will make sure he doesn't get any cleans runs and jumps this week.

Richmond went 7 bigs last week - Balta, Gray, Miller, Faull, LeFau, Fawcett, Ryan plus Vlastuin, Broad and Campbell who can play big if necessary.

We will lose Petty but can afford to lose one of our bigs, so a replacement could be any of Lindsay, Jiath or Bowey (he looked great at training last week) if fit with Moniz-Wakefield also a consideration if none come up.

If we want to stay tall, then it is definitely a suitable game for Adams to gain experience.

Being a night game and Gawn's fitness dominance, I suspect there will be little value in having Heath, so a second change could happen.

And a third change could be leaving out Laurie with Henderson's big VFL game rewarded.

But I am happy with just the one switch or whatever Kingy wants. How can you not be happy with anything we do at the moment. Who would have thought that we would play Tholstrup as our proxy full-back doing kick-ins and it worked a treat and most of the time he played on and nullified Zac Bailey. It was great stuff. Or that Ed would become a running half-back to utilise his discipline and smarts. Even greater stuff!

Horse and Simmo did a thing a few weeks ago on 360 about the way the 3 talls for freo use a rotating triangle spacing between them which makes it hard for defence to cover and transition. Obviously working well for them.

Not knocking the suggestions, but i often wonder what internal targets they put on someone like Laurie.

Every time he plays he seemingly has 'nearly moments', hasn't quite taken the chances as yet.

If he slotted that goal on the weekend would you have looked at him differently? Couple of turnovers but he wasn't alone there, Langford made up for his though.

I would be curious to see some of his running stats but it seems Telstra Tracker (to my knowledge) only has the top 5.

Looking at the Stats he did pop up have some contribution.

  • Defensive Half Pressure Act - 2

  • Pressure Acts - 10

  • Tackles - 2

  • Tackles inside 50 - 1

  • Score Involvements - 3

Not advocating for / against him, just curious how he's viewed internally.

Need some fresh legs for the 5 day turnaround

Cross should come in. Only played a half so will be fresh. Had plenty of tackles and will provide some much needed pressure up fwd

Also Lindsay in if he is right.

Out Petty and Laurie

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
