PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Brisbane
If the outs are Salem and Melksham, and the ins are Taylor and Jefferson, that will mean every first round pick since the flag is playing. Unfortunately every single one of them has big question marks but at least we're developing kids.

CASEY: Rd 03 vs Box Hill
Surely Kentfield has to play next week.

CASEY: Rd 03 vs Box Hill
I've been saying for years that we needed to draft and develop another KPD. It'll hold back our return to finals unless we can find some trades or free agents like the Hawks did with Battle and Barrass.

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Gold Coast
For those calling for Petty to be dropped, we have no-one to replace him with. Even if you'd like to see it, we simply don't have the key position depth to cover him. Further, if you liked Lever's game today, good luck seeing that without Petty there.

CASEY: Rd 01 vs Footscray VFL
We've got problems in the KPD department if Adams doesn't make it, and if Berry - a project player - doesn't turn up quickly. It leaves us with just TMac. IMO a defender is a priority in the draft this year, and/or go looking for one in a trade.

Koltyn Tholstrup Re-Signs until 2028
IMO Koltyn could make it as the successor to Jake Melksham. They are both similar - same height, strong builds, a long kick and good competitors. Melksham took years to find his feet as a forward. Years of experience playing down back and learning the game. We can invest in Kolt to do the same.

PREGAME: Rd 02 vs Fremantle
Ask any Hawthorn supporter and they'll tell you that Jiath is a lemon. He was very poor today, ran around defending ghosts and did nothing to hurt the Saints offensively. I'd be happy to go with no change but I would prefer McDonald.

The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
Imagine a Chief Marketing Officer trying to explain to a board that they want to spend millions on naming rights for a training facility that may or may not get built, has no location and no timeline for building. Better chance getting a wealthy benefactor to put their name to it.

Vale Dennis Cometti
Very sad. One of the last genuinely great commentators. His last game was calling the Dees premiership for Triple M Perth.

The State of the Salary Cap?
I'm fine with the position of our cap. Fritsch and Salem both come off long-term contracts at the end of this year. Considering their age, if they sign again, it'll be at significantly less money and/or less years relative to their previous deals. One or both might potentially leave to chase another premiership. We have enough senior players around to develop the current crop of kids until they start hitting their prime years around 2029. We don't need to go heavy on recruiting; it's about drafting and development. By the end of 2029, Steele, Viney, Lever and Gawn are likely to be done or on their last contract, freeing up cap space. Brayshaw will also be off the books. We can then go hard on finding trade targets and free agents who want to be part of an up-and-coming squad, much like we did with May, Lever, Hibberd, Melksham and Langdon. Sounds like we'll have enough space to get Humphrey too.

2026 Injury List
Starts by saving he underwent "surgery" then ends with saying it was a clean-out. Better of calling that a procedure, not surgery. Players would have that sort of thing done all the time.

Welcome to Demonland: Paddy Cross
Fritta was also an electrician when signed from Casey. Hope they have similar careers!
