Fact he even played 60% an indictment on the coaches based on some of the vision.

Yeah absolutely, wouldnโ€™t also the medical staff have noticed something? Iโ€™ve seen more clips and even the way he was running is weird. His general motor skills were affected.

The footage I posted of Hollands has elicited some "laugh" responses. Rest assured it was not meant to be funny.

I'd have serious concerns for the bloke and serious doubts about how Carlton is being run right now.

I acknowledge Langdon was great against him KB, but itโ€™s not as easy as putting a running player on him, Hollands started on him in the last who is a great runner Daicos took him to F50 where his forward craft was too good, Walsh tried to go with him but as you say got caught out hunting the pill instead of just manning up Daicos. I think youโ€™re also under selling how good Daicos was in the last at clearances and CBDs, the game no longer allows for you to body up without trying to win the footy
Thereโ€™s also the fine balance on focusing on your opposition and not backing your own game, Carlton should have been further in front at 3 quarter time based on getting the upper hand at stoppages and winning the midfield battle.
The amount of times in the last quarter they spoiled each other and got in the way of each other at the honey pot in D50 whilst the Pies stayed down and held structure was telling, maybe that was panic of de ja vuex or poor defensive coaching but that cost them as much as anything else

Yes it is not easy and agree with you on his craft, but allowing him space to do that is not the way to reduce his influence you need a player with discipline and you can reduce his influence, tackle hard but not the rough tactics but man on man he does get frustrated.

what about when Hudson kicked 600 goals in his first 100 games??

I hope that Holland is okay and that people are kind, especially after the latest update from the media explaining the situation.

Mental Health in the AFL is [censored] and has been for a long time. How many more warnings do we need. No more โ€˜wake up callsโ€™ and more action please

People should be kind to Hollands and absolutely scathing towards Carlton. The amount of scrutiny Melbourne got for putting Petracca back on the field after his injury should be par for the course, plus more because they had all the time in the world pre-game to figure out Hollands wasn't right.

Hollands has had issues for a while and look like they have worsened. Something very awry at Carlton to play him in that condition

I think the issue needs a wholistic response to ensure that there are no other issues present, mental health or otherwise.

He certainly didnโ€™t seem normal compared to his previous games.

I donโ€™t believe these are comparable situations.

Itโ€™s a shame nothing was spotted prior to the game re Hollands. Canโ€™t be easy to keep your eye on 20+ players so not sure itโ€™s Carltonโ€™s fault.

I think the whole of Carlton have a lot of pressure right now which I doubt helps the situation.

Clear from footage, including now of pre game warmup, that Hollands was not in a fit mental state to play a game of AFL football. That he was not withdrawn from game is an epic duty of care failure for both Carlton and the AFL.

Giants paying $4.50 is crazy

Rampe out. Giants missing a few but still very dangerous

Know the Hollands family very well

His Great Grandfather is Martin Cross Carlton rover in the Sixties considered Mr Football in the Ovens and Murray

His Grandfather is an Accomplished Country Footballer and Coach and my ex teammate and coach

His Father is ex Richmond for a few games in the Geechon years and another accomplished SANFL and Ovens and Murray player and Coach

Terrific Family hopefully has plenty of support

Great you have the inside lane Old Bear. I wonder what they feel about the club playing him in that condition.

Phar Lap raced 95 years ago (around the Warne-Smith, Reynolds & Bunton eras)

But why just the last 50 years re champion footballers?

Why place limits? Why not recognise the past? Just because we didn't see the deeds back then?

Footy was rather big even going back to the 19th century

For instance, in a match dubbed 'The Match of the Century' approximately 30,000 attended a match between the 2 heavyweight teams of the day (South Melb & Geelong)

Melbourne's population at the time ... approx 300,000

That's 1 in 10 Melbourians attending a footy match. No cars back then either

The equivalent of 546,000 in today's terms

You'd need a rather large stadium to fit that many people in

I feel the same way Macca.

I find 'top 10' or GOAT conversations warped. It's understandable with recency bias and info we have access to now vs then, but I would love a way to make these debates more nuanced and weighted. Maybe the A.I wiz kids can get off their butt and do something useful in this area.

You look at someone like Hayden Bunton. No videos of him playing each week, minimal film footage. Just fans' and opposition players' memories and recounted stories describing his style of play and what he could do on the field. I can imagine Bunton's legend status was almost 100% a word of mouth thing and punters telling each other "You gotta see this guy".

Anyone watched the gws behind the scenes that ch7 has been showing Wednesday nights after unfiltered?

I watched it Wednesday night & gee Adam Kingsley can give a good spray & it was interesting to see how he interacts with his assistants & he likes to use the f word a bit to.

I'll probably flick between the 2 games.

A lot of heat on Carlton about lack of duty of care. I hope the AFL media goes as hard on Carlton as they did on Melbourne with Petracca.

I did change my post to last 50 years and Hudson was just outside that.

I am sure there are a few more great examples of fabulous first 100 AFL/VFL games.

As you and others would be fully aware, Redleg, Hawthorn would clear out their forward line so that Hudson was one-out

Pagan's paddock style but 2 decades earlier. They would also flood the midfield which led to the Centre Diamond/Square being introduced

Fairly sure we double teamed Huddo in that 1972 encounter where he had kicked 8 goals by half time

Biffin & Bourke? Anyway, Hudson did an ACL in a pack mark situation

I was there but the thing I also remember about that day was Phil Rhodan's enormous drop kicks from full back, playing in the 2nds

Yes Rhodenโ€™s drop kicks were huge.

Yep. I mean sure we knew trac was in discomfort, but hollands behaviour was next level. There were even signs before the game he wasn't well.

The worst thing is, different footage is all over social media

I thought Barry Bourke gave Hudson an all mighty shove in the back when Hudson led and marked just before half time and did his knee. Hudsonโ€™s wan on track to break Fred Fannings goal kicking record that day.

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.ย
