I agree with some here, that Brad Greens letter was a bit of a nothing response,

but

I am happy at least he understands the letter needed to be written to us fans

and what can we really expect him to say?

Perhaps seem a little more [censored] off like the rest of us, sure.

but is not like he can say, "WE ARE SACKING EVERYBODY" and rant and rave like we do on here. What would that achieve really anyway.

Change Must happen, but it is not going to happen overnight. This is something as demon supporters we all should know too well from our past experiences.

What is he going to do about it, nothing I WILL BET

we will see what he does, and can judge him from that.

I would be surprised if nothing comes from this debacle.

Brad Green is keeping the seat warm until Steven Smith arrives

He is not going to make any big decision

A letter to members after yesterdays circumstances and this morning was warranted, however not having any substance sets it up for people to make their own assumptions or “True meaning” of the nothing.

Besides we all know big news won’t come from a special letter to all members it’ll be leaked well before they even think of making an AI generated statement.

I would have said we make contracts with coaches to teach and players to perform to an agreed level. We are making an assessmrnt of whether those contacted are fulfilling their part if the deal. Those who want out will get that opportunity at the end of the season.

Yes and surely the bit about abuse to Simon is a seperate matter.

Would you prefer he didn’t write one? What would you have said instead?

Let them have their win for the ages. Our last after the siren victory won a minor premiership and set us on a path to a flag.

And their win will be forgotten within weeks.

Brad Green was keeping the seat warm when he was captain. Except he was tough as nails and never took a step down

He’s preparing the battle space for a big decision. I’m quietly confident… But rarely correct.

This was my read of it too

Thanks Brad for taking the effort to acknowledge the poor performance of the team in 2025 and the disappointment and anguish felt by the supporter base and also referencing the threat to Simon Goodwin on unsocial media. He is smart enough to know that he is damned if he speaks and damned if he doesn’t but personally I am glad that he spoke. What happens at the end of season in four weeks time is anyone’s guess but you can bet it won’t be enough for some.

A token response to what must have been a flood of venom that came into the Club. I would say it was written by a PR consultant. I would like him to have said that the last 2 results were totally unacceptable and the Board are demanding answers and corrective action.

How can he inform supporters anymore than he has until they have their board meeting?

There wasn't any mention of the Board Meeting or what they might be addressing.

He managed to drive right around that.

We aren't stupid. The club has long taken many of us for fools.

The club must have got pounded today with feedback.

The phone line (a.k.a. the membership hotline and the only one publicly available that standard nuffies like myself can call) was down and still on the standard "our business hours are" recording when i called at 10.20am

All's well at HQ then yes

Probably temporarily disconnected due the overwhelming amount of angry and abusive phone calls they received.

As for Brad Green's letter. It was definitely a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" but I think he had to say something.

If I was Brad Green, I would be having some uncomfortable conversations with both the players and the coaching staff after such an embarrassing and humiliating choke.

Losses like yesterday, aren't just damning on the coach, but definitely cause damage to membership numbers. That costs the Club a HUGE amount of money!

The trouble for many here with the letter is that it doesn't propose remedies that align with what they're FEELING. Because in response to BIG FEELINGS people want to see BIG ACTIONS - whether or not they actually achieve anything.

i.e., people want the club to perform angry disappointment.

i.e. it's not what the club actually does that counts, it's the optics.

Perhaps something like "the season in totality has certainly not lived up to our expectations as a football club ... however your Board and I are committed to doing everything required to have our AFL program performing at the level we all expect"

?

Not sure what everyone was expecting. Patience.

The one thing missing was the perennial kiss of death to the coach "Simon Goodwin has the boards full support to steer the ship".

Again more talk from the club, with very little action.

Is an EGM out of the question? The entire board has been complicit in this clubs shocking downfall.

Well, an apology would have been nice. A sincere apology acknowledging that yesterday was unacceptable and continues a run of losing close games. At least Max fronted up on the radio and took ownership and explained some of what went on, especially the 6-6-6 stuff up. I would prefer he kept his powder dry until after tonights board meeting and had a harder edge than we aren't where we would like to be.

SACK THE COACH What else

I agree the threats to Goodwins safety are not acceptable and horrifying.

That shouldn't have been the only point of the message to members though. Surely speak to what's gone wrong and what's being done to put us on the right path again.

The email feels like it was knocked up but ChatGPT, but he added a condition to the prompt that said "remove any accountability or actions and keep it vague".

If you're going to address the members.. I.e the dyed in the wool paying stakeholders... then do them the courtesy of acknowledging the issue. The real issue. Of the thousands of likely emails the club received what % do you think expressed outright ire and contempt for the coaching and football dept ?? I'm thinking pretty high. Not just about another woeful season, not about 'roller-coaster rides' and any other platitudes.

The only issue would be Goodwin. Green might have wanted to at least talk to us...not the hand.

7/10 for effort

3/10 for content

Goodwin is an employee and should be respected, regardless of what is occurring within the club and the anger from members.

It seems Green didn’t address what you (plus thousands of members) wanted, so let transfer the frustration and anger at Green because too many here can’t self regulate themselves.

I would be disgusted (more so than where we are at) if the club treated our Premiership winning coach with such disrespect.

Good question. Maybe the legal eagles can weigh in here. If you put it together right now you might just get a groundswell of support

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
