In a bizarre alignment of astronomical boulders I do tend to agree with Mr Bin. Our problem is more craft than personnel.

Throwing a more than decent import into the fire but continuing our current game... wellllll... just find a brick wall.

    And McKay has more forward craft in his left toe than anyone else on the list. Why are we in the business of turning away Coleman medalists plural, and then having the tenacity to think it's not a matter of personnel?

    Furthermore, were we not in a similar position 6 years ago with Ben Degenerative Knees Brown available and a forward line that had too many limitations to contend? Thank god we traded for him and didn't throw Petty up forward back then!

    I have to agree here. Petty was an important cog in the backline in 2021. His height and ability to play on the tall talls, whilst Lever played his best as interceptor and May could use his strength against the gorillas went a long way to winning a flag.

    Plugger Mac and BBB were in great form up forward too.

    Apparently, we offered a big deal to Logan Morris from Bris last yr, Garry Lyon mentioned this on SEN, which good to know we had a crack. Dunno who will be available this year. Hoping our forwards develop and we don't need to go shopping, optimistic I know.

    Might have been an idea to actually draft him in the first place rather offer him a mind boggling contract.

    It's all about how the ball is delivered to forwards and inside 50 now as opposed to dominant tall forwards being difference makers.

    Which of course Is not to say gun key forwards are not important but they are now icing not the cake.

    And I'd argue that small to medium forwards are now more important. Ah Chee, Long, Elliot, McCluggage, are the type of players I'm thinking of.

    If it were me I'd target Bergman as our real need is utility types who have elite foot skills.

    Bergman is exactly what we need - an elite kick who can play hb and wing and can run and carry. Would free up Windsor to go back to the wing and Langford could go into the middle, where he is sure to end up anyway. He can also play forward if need be.

    I'm not sure of his contract status but I'd also try and get the Long from the Suns if at all possible. A gun who kicks straight and is a nightmare matchup as he can play small and tall.

    Long gets his own ball, Harry's still looking for his.

    If (big if) he was interested in coming to us we should be pursuing it. Now it's not going to solve the problems we have entering the 50 but it would mean we actually have someone to target that can take a mark and kick a goal.

    Look at the one time our forward line actually functioned, Big Benny Brown was our key pillar. It wasn't just what he did with the ball coming his way it was the fact he took the main defender and we could build around it.

    I can't get around it.

    I'm sure he could help us out but taken on another mega contract isn't ideal considering we've handed them out like candy lately.

    I'd be happy with a B grade key forward who does their job.

    Hill was moderately successful and on the market a few years back. His skills are separation, marking and goal kicking. Essentials for a forward but without the excellent delivery he gets he's back in the pack.

    Mihochek ... moderately skilful who maximises his opportunities. Fritsch was better but not the last few seasons.

    Rucks... Cox and Cameron. The latter is improving and is probably about the 6th best in the league but no superstar.

    Grundy was traded because McRae had a view that rucks weren't worth the money. He's probably been proved right. The half backs and the midfield win games these days

    So Jamie Elliot isn't a star? Wow wee, golly gosh.

    I 100% like the idea of Ollie Lord, have liked what he has given Port when he has played. and gives a good @nd ruck option. Would be cheap and there has been murmurs that he wants to come back to Vic.

    He'll fit right in 😉

    Tbh he would be better than what we have but I wouldn't want him at the price it will cost and I don't think it fixes our issues so I wouldn't go near it. Perhaps only if it was a straight swap for Oliver so we get that contract off our books.

    Don't think you can compare Ollie Lord and Harry McKay.

    Lord has been unable to lock down a spot at Port and the most goals he has kicked in a season is 15 in 2023.

    Harry McKay is a prior coleman medal winner and has kicked over 40 goals in a season 3 times and averages just under 2 goals per game for his career. FYI his career goal kicking (not including OOF) is 261.176 (59.7% accuracy).

    Would be happy to get Lord on a low cost contract, but McKay is a much more sure thing and Lord could be another list clogger.

We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
