ACL surgery for Andy Moniz-Wakefield

horrible luck after playing so well against north. i hope he makes a full recovery

Dam practise games, i have nightmares about them every year, for this reason

12 months gone…

So this practice match produced a net-negative, overall.

Are they really worth the roll of the dice?

Terrible luck. These sorts of injuries are the nightmare and have an especially hollow feeling during these practice matches. Even more painful because you feel he was starting to create a case for starting team selection. Super talented and gaining confidence. All the best for recovery, looking forward to seeing this kid out there in 2026!!!

AMW and Jagga both ACLs

Terrible week for the kids!! 😔

no, they're not

first time people play for real should be round 1

We're three defenders down already then. Not good.

Hopefully the AFL will see sense and open a new SSP window for the next fortnight, in order to cover any injuries incurred during the pre season.

Damn. Yesterday we were hoping it was a mcl instead of an acl. Nope. ACL/MCL/PCL all done. That really doesn't sound good for recovery, but I have no idea.

Article says that he hurt his ACL, PCL and MCL. Was the ACL the only rupture? or were all three done?

Thats horrible luck for him, wish him the best. But I would prefer to wish that the AFL looks at addressing the hip drop tackles.  NRL and NFL have banned it, if it's not a knee, it's an ankle or syndesmosis.

That said, if you take it out of the game there are not a lot of ways for players to be bought to ground...

Horrible stuff.

I find ACLs particularly unpleasant because there seems to be so little to be done to prevent them and they have no context to help players get their heads around it. Not even a 'soft tissue injuries will turn up more as you get older' or 'it is a product of your bash and crash style'.

Plus, properly rehabilitating an ACL takes all kind of disciple and specific effort, so you don't even get to have a calm convalescence.

Doesn't help the mood that AMW is such an enthusiastic character.

Poo-on-a-stick.

Absolutely shattered for him, looked really set to announce himself as a player. A long road ahead of him. My daughter did her ACL in a very similar incident in her grand final in late August. Wish him nothing but the best in his recovery.

We have plenty of defenders…

Damn, poor guy. All my thoughts are with AMW; no doubt Trac, Lever, Maxy  Melk and others who have experienced long injury rehabs are getting around him.

Could we jointly go to the AFL to open a new SSP window to allow clubs to replace players in the sim games.

Shattered for him.. terrible luck consideration it was literally minutes away from the game ending for the day.

I feel shattered for the poor kid.  He’s worked so hard to get to this level, and all his effort was just starting to bear fruit.  Footy can be a cruel sport!

Call it what you will, that truly sucks. Quickly removed the buzz from yesterday’s team performance.

Believe he’s a determined young fella. You’ve just got to get up, (albeit slowly) dust yourself down and get on with it.

Positive the club will back him to recover and return to the playing field. Good luck Andy.

It's Game Day on Friday night. ANZAC Eve. The big stage at the ‘G. Round 7 is here, with the ANZAC commemoration games taking centre stage. Who are you tipping this week, and which results would be most favourable for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.

Before Sunday, the last time the Brisbane Lions had walked onto the turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, they celebrated the pinnacle of the sport - an AFL premiership secured in emphatic fashion for the second consecutive year.

From the outset, the Casey Demons lacked any spring in their steps. They were out-hustled and out-bustled and finally outplayed by the Brisbane Lions by 38 points on their home turf in perfect conditions at Casey Fields.
