Straight swap for Trac

Too soon?

Not that he's a bad player but I don't think he'd change our midfield dynamic much. Certainly it wouldn't be much of a gain compared to the proverbial 'replacement', which would presumably be one of the young players we're looking to develop.

My summary - not worth the salary cap space relative to a kid, and not worth even the relatively modest draft cost in an allegedly deep draft.

Agree, owies would be handy in our forward line

All these guys had games this year with a side that made the top 8. Fell in perhaps but arguably better than us ATM.

speak to them absolutely does not hurt or cost $ to talk  (unless it’s after the game)

if it’s little cost in $ and in draft picks in a deep draft, and future development of young players.  It should be assessed.

needs someone much smarter than me in football terms to do that.  But give nuthin to the baggers   Keep our picks.

It smells like Carlton are freeing up space for Houston. In which case, we drive a hard bargain and could get him cheap (pick in 40s). I think he’d do well taking the defensive mid role with flexibility to play forward also. I’m all for it - we need more depth in this area.

In simplistic terms, I think he’s a more versatile version of Sparrow. Sparrow gets a gig every week so Kennedy would too

Like both Kennedy and Owies if cost not too great. Both were regulars at Carlton who were close to flag favourites before they imploded. Neither player was responsible for that and indeed, Kennedy was good for them. Didn't he stop Tracc in the first quarter when we played the Blues forcing Goodwin to move him forward?

I don't watch enough of Owies closely, does he provide pressure?

no, he's a small forward who is not overly quick

knows where the goals are tho

certainly does over 30 goals is well above average for a small forward.

We probably come home with the 4 points if Owies didn't play against us in round 9.

And a big yes to Kennedy who could replace ANB is that mid/forward player. Carlton seem to be well stocked in B/B+ midfielders such as Cerra and Hewett so could probably afford to trade him.

Our clearance numbers in a lot of games this year would suggest we could use another inside mid.

Owies definitely hits the scoreboard but he is small and not super quick. Is he an upgrade on Billings/Spargo? Suspect yes...older than I thought though, 27

Is Kennedy the bloke that kicked the winning goal in Gather Round after a Freo player gave the umpire a mouthful?

Yes. Kicked 16-10 when forward this year.

Yes and he also kicked 1 or 2 clutch goals against us in the semi final last year.

Kennedy is a decent inside mid, but is slow pace wise. Has been used to fill in other positions this season and always puta an effort in. Solid when kicking for goals.

Carlton are sending Cerra to specialists in Qatar for his hamstrings so that looks like they see him staying at the Princes Park. George Hewitt probably gets in slightly ahead of Kennedy and now their is also the youngster Lord who can provide midfield depth so Kennedy is free to look elsewhere.

Kennedy is a popular player with supporters and many would be sad to see him go but changes to the Blues midfield mix are needed.

Would be a good player to have if the club still considers Petracca to be a flight risk. Obviously, not close in ability and standing but good cover until we can rebuild our midfield.

Kennedy is a great get.  He can play the defensive mid role that Brayshaw played and is a very handy Fwd/Mid, which would be a good rotation for Trac

Kennedy would be a steal for a set of steak knives. His best is far better than alot on our list.

Would have been great to have him this year to be honest with Oliver's hand and Petraccas internal injuries crippling us.

I would take him in a heartbeat.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
