Captain Max

Featured Replies

I think it’s time.

You don’t have to agree but I think it’s a conversation worth having.

Who's your pick rpfc?

For what it's worth, I'm Team Max. I like Rick but I'm not sure he needs the C. Trac would have been a good interim for 3-4 until one of the younger guys was ready.

I can't see them going back to Jack

At this stage I'm happy to wait for him to hand over the captaincy to George.

I as many others don’t  have much of an idea of the inner machinations of leadership at the club. We hear snippets here and there about so and so. Max has been great.  I’d leave to the club to decide and forgo an opinion.

You haven't said anything ? Give some reasons.

He's the only person at the club who has shown any competent leadership in the last 20 odd days and just coming off his 7th All Australian and is our only living Premiership Captain.

What an insulting and disrespectful thread to start.

When Max says it's time. It's time. Double Facepalm.

Was sitting next to Geelong players tonight 👀

@TomMorris you’re up

There is no better option at the moment. Maybe Vines, but the players have indicated they prefer Max’s leadership style over Jack’s more assertive nature.

Seriously?

Do you think we could let things simmer down a bit & be happy Traccs staying

Yeah, a round 1 pick for each aa guernsey

Let's hear what comes out over the next few weeks/months.

If things go as we want them to go, and the group starts to galvanise after all this, I dare say Gawn will have played an important role in that.

If he still wants to be captain (and he may be exhausted from the role, tbh), it's undoubtedly still his IMO.

I think if max says he doesn’t want to do it or doesn’t feel capable of doing, then it’s time to move on.

If he does want to and does feel capable, he’s captain in 2025.

It’s up to him and I don’t have any reason to doubt his judgments.

I’d leave it with Max for now. I think our next captain is in the U/24 group.

Imo Max is the only person at the club who has shown proper leadership this year. He's asked to do far more than any other captain in the comp.

I'm happy for Max to stay captain for as long as he wants it.

Not only does he speak incredibly well and lead by performance, he consistently gets to every Casey VFL game to support the players in the twos. Was also down in Geelong tonight supporting the Woman's team. If only we had a few more as committed to every aspect of our club as him.

Beatification? Yes.

Not only is he the best captain but today of all days we should value his leadership. I have no doubt whatever that he is a substantial reason for Tracy’s decision to stay

Max is the best captain by a country mile. Now and going forward. If he doesn’t want it that’s different if he’s just had enough, but he is an amazing captain and we should be so lucky to keep him on as captain. He’s a true leader in every way!

We have plenty of problems at the club.

Max as captain is not one of them.

Max all the way. I love when that music starts and our man mountain emerges first from the smoke filled race to lead the side out. Hard as nails on the ground yet has all the subtleties required to represent the club off it. I'm dreading the day he hangs up the boots for good.

Max continues as captain for the next season or two and then I'd expect it pass to Rivers or JVR.  Both play with the spirit I'd expect from a leader. Max is a genuinely great leader on and off field. He cares about his team mates, his club and the supporters. Whoever the next skipper is has enormous boots to fill.

I agree that Max should get the choice of what he wants...if he happens to think giving it up might prolong his playing career then that should be factored in. One of our all time greats in multiple facets.

I also don't mind the call out for Rivers down the track. He consistently plays with the kind of effort and intensity that we need other players to be dragged along to. Will he be yet another interstate player that can't do their 10 to 15 years away from their state of origin though? He seems like a stronger character than that to me.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
