It's fascinating to observe in this thread the phenomenon of distinct positions continuing to be presented, each continuing to be unaffected by the ones from which it differs.

'This is what I think. I am immune to what you think.'

FWIW, though, I'm in the 'I-don't/can't-know-what-he's-thinking-now-but-fact-is-he's-contracted-largely-happy-and-pretty-sure-we're-pretty-good-negotiators' camp.

For what it's worth I'm gonna go with @Dannyz summing up of the situation and expect he'll be out the door at seasons end. Anything else will be a bonus.

HE IS CONTRACTED FOR 3 YEARS!

Would hate to see him go and or Judd leave however if home is really where they need to be we should absolutely be getting on the Harley Reid front now.

That is the only trade I’d consider. Kozzy for Reid and maybe some change to the Eagles to cater for the age gap.

I’ll bet we’ll start to hear murmurings of Reid wanting to return home this year. If that’s the case I’d be on the front foot to make this happen. If Kozzy wants to be in WA then the club shouldn’t matter. Can’t have your cake …

It seems to matter to him and only weakens his argument of being home sick.

Strengthens our case to keep him to his contract.

I feel like this is something the AFL should be trying to drum into players, by all means you can be homesick but if you are contracted and you want to return to your home city/state then the club you are contracted to should be allowed to negotiate with whoever will give the best deal. This idea of being contracted for another year or more and being able to hold the club to dealing with only one party is a joke.

Adding to that if there were a scenario where Koz said at season's end, "I really want to go to WA, please deal with Freo" but WC are in a position to provide better compensation I want us to be blunt and say, "if WA is where you want to play next season this is your only option".

If the contract is up, that's a different story.

In all due respect, who the hell has any regard for what that [censored] says?

There are a lot of whispers and information out there from within and outside the club to ignore the reality that is; Kozzies head is elsewhere moving forward.

All the anger, frustration, fear, denial etc won’t change this situation.

Tim Kelly was a shocker when it came to this.

Pleaded with Geelong to trade him back to WA on humanity grounds. Tim was in his early 20's and had young children, and he and his partner were desperate for family support. He was well in his rights to request a trade back to WA but then had the nerve to demand to be traded to West Coast because they were only 12 months past a flag while Freo at the time were...well... Freo.

Putting two things together

Pickett appears to have a lot of respect for the Melbourne Football Club and also for the principle of signing a contract. He also doesn't seem distraught at the idea of being in Melbourne, but has clear reasons to want to move to WA.

That he seems to be quite fixed on Fremantle is awkward, though West Coast could be entering a phase resembling Melbourne 2010s but with a lot more [redacted]. You can understand a young and exceptional player not wanting to burn away their career there.

But, if Pickett respects the MFC and the principal of contracts, then his de facto nomination of Fremantle has basically put the onus on Fremantle to offer a respectable, appropriate trade. Pickett knows that if Freo don't ante up, Melbourne won't deal.

So, honestly, I'm not too anxious. Either Pickett stays or we will get a reasonable exchange. I'll be sad to see him go but I won't be feeling betrayed and I don't think it'll wreck our prospects.

Strangely seeing Kane throw his name into this only makes me feel better. His mail, his intuition, and a lot of his analysis has been shown to be way off base. Oliver is the best and most recent example, his word was that Oliver will never get back to full fitness and his broken, and that we should trade him for a packet of chips.

Cheers for cheering me up Kane!

EDIT: He was also pushing hard the agenda that he was going to go to Port last season and this season. In footy scuttlebutt I would trust my dog's intuition over his.

This is almost a copy and paste of the Oliver thread in some ways.

He's playing with us this season. My only concern is how well he and the side play and how deep we go into the finals.

The media are just muck raking again.

BT will be mentioning three times in every one of the games we play this year. It's all conjecture and rubbish.

Very interested to see Koz go through the midfield more often and to see how our game plan has transformed.

Go Dees. Hope Clarry, Tracc and Koz just tear it up on the field this year.

I wonder why he or the AFL media don’t want to focus on the rumours surrounding Bobby Hill wanting to return to WA as well. Why is he off limits?

Same old media, talking nonsense.

The possibility of that happening might have just increased with the recruitment of Jack Henderson via the SSP process.

Yes, it shows an absolute eagerness to avoid Pickett in the forward line for the entirety of the game.

If Kossie wants home we deal with both WA Clubs and look at everyone st Freo and not just Jackson. Nice bitten twice shy with him.

Yeah that's not how it works mate.

Interesting. Let's see how homesick the lad is if there's only WC on the table at seasons end. As they say, if one door closes another one opens.

The best thing about Kayo is that I will never have to listen to BT again.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

  • GAMEDAY: Sydney

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
