One of those borderline decisions that could have gone either way. Next season's injury toll will probably indicate whether it was the right choice or not.

Thommo has always given of his best when selected but unfortunately is way behind May and Lever in the picking order.

He should go with the best wishes of everyone at the club.

As soon as Barass left, I was very surprised they weren’t looking at Adam.

Best of luck Adam.

Wasn't overly excited that we parted ways with him.

We always had that luxury that we could bring Tomo straight in if a May, Lever or Petty was out. Now we're probably in a little bit of trouble if two of May, Lever, Petty and T Mac are missing in the one game.

Bulldogs should have a look at him with Keath retired and Liam Jones has just done a severe hamstring.

I kinda feel like this may be Maysies last year anywhere. I think he's lost that closing speed and he just doesn't seem to move that freely anymore.

I'm glad it looks like Petty is going to play back, but yep we'll probably need to keep rebuilding our backline over the next couple of years.

Hope Tommo gets the permanent spot he worked so hard for with us. He deserves it.

He's definitely still a plug and play defender, but May has really seemed to have lost a step over the past two seasons. His closing speed is has diminished, as has his ability to gather a ground ball with that one-touch finesse he's previously had which meant he was uncharacteristically caught out a few times (last season, especially).

I hope that Jed Adams comes on this year because Tomlinson was a huge part of our defensive depth.

Best of luck to Tommo!

I follow Norf pretty closely. Absolutely a role for him down there. They have a couple of young defenders that may well come on this year - but they have been injury prone to date. Tommo, as @BLWNBA rightly notes, is plug and play extraordinaire.

May wasn't the same after two of his ribs were fractured early in the season.

It's been reported he's in better shape this preseason than he has been for some time.

I'm expecting a good year from May.

Ditto wasn't the same after the knee to the ribs.

Backing him in for a couple more top line seasons.

Being interstate, I don't see too many live games, but the few I have over the last two years, my wife points out how terribly he even walks on the field. Like his gait is really impeded and he's looking sore every time we see him play.

He's been a great leader for us on the field but yeah, I think the young fellas have a step on him now.

Yes Steven May is mere mortal like the rest of us, but l don’t see a rapid fall off the cliff. In fact he is a remarkably resilient footballer. He bounces back quickly from setback and injury that might daunt others.

He saw off Tom Hawkins in one of the better games for the team last season. That fearsome wack from Tommahawk which fractured his eye socket left no physical or psychological scars.

His appearance in the premiership Grand Final is of course the stuff of legend. Had Astro-Naughton totally bluffed and on a tight lead. More poodle than bulldog that day. And all on one leg.

Knock on wood may the injury gods be kinder to all Demons this season. Especially, so S May remains a physical marking presence on ball and on opponent. Leave the ground ball gets for the swifter, smaller defenders.

You can’t hold too many in waiting. Adams may well be the heel in this crown if he is able to develop quickly this season.

Good luck Tommo thanks for your nearly 50 games of pure guts and determination and I’ll never ha able to understand why you were dropped especially after the Masterclass vs Pies in Kings Birthday in 2023. I think Stephie played with  a broken rib next round instead ? did he not ?

Hi 58er I haven’t heard that saying before - The heel in the crown I was taught - The Jewel in the Crown. but I do agree Adam Tomlinson should have been played more, our problem appears to be a lack of spots available on the list, even now we have 2-3 players that we can’t fit in. 😁

Should have not resigned Marty Hore so quick who is a forgotten man when replacements are mentioned for probably Petty and Lever but not necessarily ideal for May or McDonald.

Maybe Tomlinson was unlucky because the club meant to delist Adams and wrote it as Adam instead. Once the paperwork was lodged with the AFL it was then too late to rectify the error.

(Or maybe not. Tomlinson seems like a fine fellow. Someone told me he was studying for a Masters degree at Uni. If that's correct, does anyone know in which discipline?)

Anybody disappointed about Tommo leaving watch a replay of last year's final game v Collingwood.

... and most of his others post knee reconstruction. Tommo gave us a few good games when there was a suitable match up but he is very replaceable. Reading this thread I don't know how he missed Team of the Century (so far).

Seventeen other clubs have had an opportunity to get him since he was delisted and nobody has exactly pounced. Having said that I really hope North or West Coast pick him up and he gets to extend his career.

According to 'the people's bible', aka wikipedia, 'Tomlinson currently studies a Bachelor of Property and Real Estate / Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University'. I guess you could do a Masters in that? Or change it up? Quantum Physics?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
