Thanks, Finally some good news with everything that has been going on

You edited your post but you needn’t have. It’s still disrespectful to a member of OUR CLUB.

Stafford used to play the bin lids after wins. That will be a tougher assignment to replace!

Thank you Staff. It was the get together at your house that, if you believe Max, changed the course of history for this club and propelled us to win a flag.

You have been instrumental in achieving that premiership, and will forever be a MFC great for doing so.

Wishing you all the very best in the future.

A long time servant in our  recent 🏆 era.  Many thanks.
New opportunities for some fresh idea and our next 🏆 era.

Book the grand final after party then. Firm favourites now.

The very fact that he's lasted 11 years in a cut throat industry is testament to his character. The flag is testament to his contribution.

Best of luck with his future plans.

Any idea who we may poach for the forward coaching role?

Have been told in the past we like Davenport from GWS but haven’t heard anything specific.

Just when our fwd line is functioning…

WTF is going on round here?

😳😬😂

Big Thanks and good luck Staf!!

What struck me about Staff, whenever I attended training, was his great enthusiasm for every drill he took. It was contagious among the lads he was coaching. He also put his body into his ruck and forward positional instruction, taking the blows, that were inevitable, with a smile before setting up for the next!

A huge thanks to Greg Stafford came aboard during the massive change process introduced by PJ, PR & SG which eventually led to our finals successes in 2018, 2021-2023 and now has made space for someone else to come in and help reinvigorate the group for future successes. He’s been a great father figure for the team, thanks Greg and good luck in your future endeavours.

Greg Stafford’s departure from Melbourne is one of those "it is what it is" moments. Footy is a results-driven industry, and going forward, the Dees will need to adapt in the space. Stafford’s been in the system long enough to know how it works, but now it’s up to the boys to step up, find that fresh voice, while staying true to our brand.

Who do we blame if our forward line sucks next year??!!

For a start, the game plan has to change and someone who can teach the young players how to play that position, how to position one self, running patterns, when to lead and where every time.

Not unhappy that they’re mixing things up but I always thought Stafford copped a lot of flack when his line had the least amount of talent.

Our forward line also defended their backsides off whilst our backs gave no attacking drive.

So all the best Staff.

Best of luck Staff. Successful or not I am sure he tried his hardest. 11 years in one place in AFL football is an eternity

Yes, time for renewal for Staff and the coaching staff. He was part of a coaching team that delivered a flag and multiple finals appearances.

  1. Goody’s game plan—obviously.
  2. Kate—for sneezing near a training session.
  3. The re-emergence of the Norm Smith curse—because we just can’t resist.
  4. The umpires—standard procedure, really.
  5. Maynard—because even if he’s not involved, why not?

'Pursue other opportunities' always smacks of 'let go' as opposed to 'I'm going'. I hate it. I hope in Greg's case it was at least somewhere in between.

Loving that the word nuffies is being used here to describe opposition players or in general anyone who isn't Melbourne.

Well it's not an actual word anyway so not sure what your point is to be honest.

I'm far from someone who hates on opposition teams and players for no reason either.

Whether you were happy with Staff or not, and hand on heart, I think it was probably time for him to move on - and that's ok - that's not a dig - sometimes you just need change and that can be said for both parties. Our forward line/approach needs a fresh set of eyes and it's time (perhaps a little late...but again, just me) so it's a good decision and I wish him the best. To those potting the guy, it's easy to do so from the couch, but the reality is that we won a flag with him there, and very little was said about that. It should be acknowledged. Thank you.

All the best, Staff!

And let’s not forget he helped bring across Burgo. Thanks Greg and all the best!

A ruckman coaching our forward division? yeah right, can we get someone who was an ACTUAL forward to do the gig next year? Just my view of course!

TOM HAWKINS would be a great start!

Thankyou Staff. Good luck in the Future

Always a part of the ‘21 Flag

Now we must recruit The Best Forward Coach in the Land

Start Searching…..

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
