The harsh criticism by Jeff White during one of the games put McQualter in the spotlight, where he pointed out the incorrect positioning of our mids at centre bounces. I assume that would have McQ responsibility.

In white's opinion, so he's right and McQualters wrong? so look at the truth Gawn has lost his ability to be a good tap ruckman but the best ruckman around the ground by a street, another factor you have 2 club leaders in the midfield and they cannot make corrections to set-ups come on you are clutching at straws.

Yes and no line coach's only coach to the game plan that Goodwin wants and we played a game style of contest to contest down the line style in 21, 22,23 and 24 mcqualter came fron the tigers who played move it forward at all costs and had the players to do that, we tried to change but everyone found out we didn’t have the pace, ball skills or football awareness to play it so we went back to what they knew.

As for game day coaching and set-ups yes that falls on him and unfortunately Gawn is not a top grade tap ruckman anymore he's the best at around the ground by a country mile but his inability to jump at ball ups and throw ins doesn't help the midfield but by the same token the midfield should be able to change their positions when things go wrong plus the rules around runners for 2024, allowing them to only deliver messages four times per quarter, plus after every goal hasn’t helped.

Will be interested in seeing who they draft and how they go about designing a gameplan moving forward.

And if we can see from the outside that the setups are not effective, because of player placement, and which side of the opposition they are standing, then why couldn't McQualter?  ...and that is what a midfield coach should be coaching, not just on matchday, so that no matter who is in the centre square or around the pack, they know where to stand and go. 

That wouldn't and didn't ever happen under Yze.

And now he has to rebuild a midfield at Richmond because there is no Cotchin, Edwards, Martin and Baker to work with.

Every game starts with how you want to set up first, so you are saying that the 2 main midfielders in Gawn and Viney cannot change it when things go wrong? Remember you only have 4 times to send a runner out a quarter and after goals but the players would would have the ability to be able to change it don't put it all on McQualter remember he was in charge of the midfield at Richmond when their midfield was flying so he has credits in the bank for that.

Yes i agree. It is too early to judge McQualter. Goody needs to restructure his gameplans which have become too defensive

even Ross Lyon is playing a more attacking style than Goody!!

You are talking absolute drivel. Richmond’s midfield was never flying. Even during their golden era their supporters used to lament the fact that they got annihilated at clearance every week, which is why they brought in Taranto and Hopper in an attempt to rectify that.

You’re also talking as if our midfield is a group of plodders which is clearly absurd - it’s the best group we’ve had in the club’s history.

It’s incredibly evident when you’re at the games how nonsensical and reactive our starting positions are. That’s down to the midfield coach. In the game against Freo they won the first EIGHTEEN clearances of the game. There is no excuse for that. None. That is abysmal coaching.

The bottom line is a previous strength of our game has become a glaring weakness in the space of a season since McQualter took over the reins.

Goodwin needs to GO Massively disappionting coaching performance this year and our insipid non finals winning shhheitfest of 22/23 means his message and game plan is SHOT. Mark my words he should go now but will be replaced half way through next year. MARK MY WORDS

Strongly suspect McQualter was better suited to managing the around-the-ground and forward pressure aspect rather than on-ball set-ups. No? 

If he goes to the Eagles, is Brett Ratten still looking for a plum midfield gig?

Come to think of it, about half this season's finals coaches have been on the edge of sacked at some point this year, so maybe we can snipe one of them.
