I thought Christian Salem continued his midfield form despite chopping disposal a little

Absolutely correct. He was the general whose delivery, almost always, set up so many attacks. I rated him our second best

It was soooo good to see Clayton get his clearance work and timing right

Forgot how big he is - he had blokes hanging off him and still got the ball!

Only guy who Harley Reid didn't get through last week

For those laying into McAdam, it’s a bit rough. 2nd game. It’ll take time to find his feet and rhythm at this level, in a new team. I thought he got into some good spots. He’ll be fine. Got to give these guys some time! Even if it was smart strategy to drop guys after 2 rounds, we don’t have the depth for that!

I generally agree with that comment, but in the last quarter he  didn’t  run, didn’t tackle and,n frankly, looked unfit

Hopefully the Cats have a few mediocre years to bring Chris Scott back to the pack a little.

Every year since about 2020 was meant to be the year Geelong finally went off the cliff. I thought we might have punted them off it in 2021 but nope. The buggers seem to just be able to get up again, over and over.

From now on I’m just going to assume they’ll be a contender again until I see with my own eyes that they’re not.

Pretty happy with that performance. We got our forward half game back, got a heap of forward half intercepts, repeat entries, high inside 50 count and pressed up better. I’m not fussed about the late goals as you often see that with fatigue, but our defence was rock solid and almost kept the Saints to our lowest score this season. I just wanted us to get to 100pts which we did.

Also, props to Salem who had a terrific game in the middle

We’re still a massive work in progress though. That forward connection just still isn’t there yet and it’s hard to blame just one or two culprits because they all do it. Kozzy goes for his mate McAdam instead of Petty all alone, AnB (had a great game) had a few poor entries, Clarry too, Hunter, Chandler etc. I’d just love to see a game where we just nail that because we’d honestly beat anyone.

I'll take the win, but I need medication to get over the first 2.5 quarters of snooze fest.

When we take risks and change the angle of play to come through the corridor, we really are dangerous and exciting. This was the best thing about the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Great to see Tomlinson play so well.

The gut run and repeated efforts of Langdon, ANB and Rivers looked top quality today.

I was unconvinced about Billings and I remain unconvinced about McAdam.

Hated those 3 last quarter goals.

Best game from Oliver Viney and Trac as a trio in some time.

Max Gawn - simply the best.

Well the first quarter was our best, we absolutely dominated. Just missed several set shots but terrific footy

Great to get the four points but areas of concern may outweigh the aspects to celebrate.

Positives:

  • Max, ANB, May, Tmac
  • Midfield mix change ups
  • Tommo slotted in ok
  • Hunter exceeded expectations
  • Better game from Sparrow

Negatives

  • Petty couldn't get a kick for 3 qtrs and then injured (& the cupboard is bare)
  • Concerned for McAdam, spilled a lot of chances, pressure just ok
  • Windsor couldn't get into the game, fatigued?
  • Fritsch mostly quiet
  • 67 inside 50s for 14.16
  • Coughed up 3 goals in junk time, costing us ~3%

We dominated them for 2.5 quarters and held up ok during the other stages, was about as good as I would have expected we'd play today. Can't dwell that much on a few individual down games

A win is great, and I don’t want to be that guy but we will need to be a lot better against the Dockers and the Pies. Good in patches, but sloppy in others.

Bank the win, but gotta sharpen up from here.

Then DON’T be.

To be fair, 2 goals in 8 games as a forward is pretty shocking

St Kilda are terrible. Outside of king and marshall I can’t think of too many of their players I’d want us to trade for

Maybe Jack Sinclair but that's about it.

An obvious improvement from last week.  Good but not great but that’s okay. Sure, the Aint’s didn’t perform well but that is life.  We got the four points.  That was important.

More importantly I feel that there is a lot of potential upside to what we can do over the later half of the season. Don’t want to peak too early.  Keep the opposition guessing.

Just need to try and get enough wins to be in the top four come finals (and fingers crossed for injuries).  And then…. bring it on!

Makes sense. I thought he was younger. Tx.

Good to see all the dads with the little ones.

My friend who is involved with the Saints ( her father was a former premiership player) said Ross Lyon will not let the players bring their kids into the rooms after a game. She can’t stand him BTW.

I love seeing the families together celebrating ❤️💙

goodwin now has a 99-1-70 record, so a 58.73% winning percentage

those with more than 100 wins as a coach and a better record than him:

  • leigh matthews - 58.79%
  • david parkin - 58.89%
  • phonse kyne - 59.46%
  • john worrall - 59.86%
  • ken hinkley - 60.08%
  • jack dyer - 60.81%
  • reg hickey - 61.02%
  • norman clark - 61.21%
  • mark thompson - 61.71%
  • alan joyce - 61.84%
  • allan jeans - 62.15%
  • john longmire - 62.93%
  • tom hafey - 64.75%
  • frank hughes - 65.08%
  • john nicholls - 66.06%
  • dick reynolds - 66.99%
  • chris scott - 68.5%

that's some serious company

And perhaps more importantly he walks the talk in demonstrating team values and culture. He truly leads in this space and everyone else follows.

Loved the way he handled Langdon ‘week off’.  Look after everyone and then everyone will look after you.

Totally aware that quite a few here have different opinions on Goody. I hope he stays on board for a very, very long time.

To say nothing of the rubbish they served up last week.

On the contrary, plenty was said of it… in the post-match thread last week, that is. And it was said in the post-match thread last week because IT WAS THE POST-MATCH THREAD LAST WEEK. Emphasis on LAST [censored] WEEK

Yep.

No point expecting perfect performances, decent win over a finals team.

Solid win in the end despite some prolonged sloppy periods especially in the first half. The real test comes in the next couple of weeks though, let's see how we go against Freo and the Pies.

Eagles losing by 99 points today makes last week's loss feel even worse 🤬

Great points. Only one I think could be a positive was that whist McAdams did spill a few chances, he did contest a few zero hopers and brought the ball to ground. A bit of contest we haven’t had!

All hail this week's winner of "Missed The Obvious Joke" Award!

Didn't miss the joke, the curse started when they decided to put a eagle on our indigenous jersey, I am all for it, but that did not represent the club, putting another team's logo on your jersey, is  just not acceptable, no team has ever done that it's a curse.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
