Premiership Rings?

Featured Replies

Tom Morris needs to find a story to generate clicks everyday this is his latest. The prototype and latest push come from a business that makes them say no more

I already have one from 2021

Will post a pic

Grotesque but there you go

How many more Yankee concepts do we have to endorse?

We award medals in this country not rings.

If you want a ring go and look for one on a Friday or Saturday night.

Gross.

I can understand the argument around giving players who didn't play grand final day but still played a certain percentage of games a medal (say, 10/25 games) as they have made a big contribution.  But the rings are gross. Might as well call ourselves world champions when we win the flag too

Premiership teddy bear.

Premiership beanie.

Premiership membership to Demonland.

Premiership Netflix account.

Premiership fridge magnet.

Premiership double-glazing installed at a 50% discount.

All better than the display of vanity that is a ring which tells people how great you are.

It would be absolutely creepy seeing the players get on one knee and the kid slipping the ring onto their finger.

MFC did this about 12 months after our 2021 premiership, with a dinner and presentation of premiership rings in the MCC Committee Room involving the 23 in the flag team.

At $50,000, $2.2m just for players!!!  Plus some for staff.

Its a ridiculously indulgent way to spend approx $3.0m.    It will be closer to $6.0m if they add AFLW premiership rings ...

Sure recognise all involved but $50,000 apiece?.  If they really want “The ability to recognise all staff and make them feel special for all the hard work and to have something on their shelf is a good thing."  Give them a small replica of the Premiership Cup.  Perhaps personalise it with the recipients name etched onto it.

so, spend less per person and put the rest into junior or country AFL.

after all i drank after 2021 GF, I could just post the Japanese flag

That they should even consider calling it the 'Barassi' ring to honour his legacy offends.  He was a down to earth, no fuss person.  This grotesque and ostentatious token is imv not approriate and I suspect the last thing he would want.  He deserves better and something more public.

Give them a ring but don't name it after the mighty #31.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • PREGAME: Fremantle

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

  • POSTGAME: St. Kilda

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
