Brisbane’s giant ex-basketballer come forward-ruck has requested a trade to us...

Unless I’ve fallen victim to one of those scam accounts.

I see this as a proper win, depending on cost.

Know nothing about him but this

🚨 Trade update - per Cal Twomey

24 year old ruck/forward Tom Fullarton has requested a trade to Melbourne.

He stands at 200cm and 98kgs.

Good size.
Can he kick Goals?

I saw him kick 7 for the Lions at the Gabba the year before last - they had huge wraps on him then.  Daniher in and Fort as 2nd ruck behind Big O has kept him in the two's.

Lots of talent....opportunity and development - not sure

VFL this year:

18 matches, 30 goals, 15.3 disposals, 4.5 marks, 4.6 hit outs (Lions often played 2 primary rucks).

He’s discount discount Luke Jackson.

Id be concerned he doesn’t hold up as a starting ruck, nor does he make a consistent impression as a forward ruck.

But he’s well suited to cover both roles and I can’t imagine he’ll cost much as a contract or a trade.

Unless both Tomo and Brown are retiring, the Schache 1 year extension looks necessary. Better option than an NQR like Shaq, Chol or Lobb as this guy still has a chance of turning the corner at 24.

The missing link.

Ruck and forward back up and capable of claiming a position in the side, if he works hard in the pre season.

Perfect signing IMO. Won’t get a game if Gawn’s fit, but a good break glass option on the cheap. Can play a bit.

I love the work goodwindees and Chook in Perth do on here, but also find it interesting that some other “ITK” posters didn’t mention this one or McAdam at any stage. Very interesting indeed.

Nothing more than someone to contest the ruck should Max get injured -   don't think he's anything more.

Yeah, I've been quite worried with Grundy's depature what would happen if Max got injured.
Maxy continually gets belted and our weird and slow "kick it to Max on the wing" strategy means he get's belted even more than most talls.

Sounds like a good get.

Geez I hope we take on a more offensive and direct style of play through the corridor to take the pressure off Maxy having to take pack marks all bloody day.

That we play fast into an open forward line with Kozzy and Fritta sitting in there one on one with space just like Charlie Cameron does.

Fullarton certainly fills a significant need for the club and presumably will cost very little.

Hopefully he is prepared to play as a battering ram in the ruck and up forward, as this seems to be how we want to play.

Since others have mentioned it, it is one thing to resign Schache, it is another entirely to have done it any time prior to the end of the trade period, let alone during the footy season. You have to assume they are expecting Brown to move on, although I wouldn't blame him for collecting another year's salary.

There's our back up ruck option. Has decent form forward in the VFL too.

Edit: also want to say I put his name out there a few weeks ago in a other thread, complete guess but you're welcome

We don’t have the key position depth to stop him getting opportunities as a forward even if Gawn is healthy.

Going small with 2 talls is probably the optimal set up but to get through the home and away we’ll need Fullarton or Schache to play games.

I’m hoping Fullarton can grab that chance because it would allow us to manage Max in games and he’d bring something different to our midfield mix.

I like it, with Grundy moving on we need coverage for Max when he is tired or gets injured.  If he can roll forward and kick goals like he does in the VFL (52 shots for 30 goals in 18 games at 58%) then he is better than what we had with Grundy, he's young so has plenty of scope for development and will, I imagine, a boatload cheaper than Grundy's enormous salary.

Win-win depending on the trade value.  Future 3rd?

Interesting times when a player can be 200cm and not in the tallest half-dozen at their club!

Certainly the exact right 'type' that we need and won't got a lot to acquire. We'll see how he develops, I guess.

Potential range of expectations;

Works his way into the team to be a regular filling the role of genuinely tall tall target.

to

Is sub for a semi-final and actually gets subbed on.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
