Everyone has different tastes and preferences of course but to say the game was boring yesterday is ridiculous. Ripping first half chock full of outstanding goal kicking. Both teams took the game on. 3rd quarter sagged (understandably given the hot day) but it was tight and tense throughout.

Tough crowd to please.

It was sheet cause we weren't in it.
And had we been there the game would've been an ugly maul.
Cause that's how we roll.

Yep yesterday when I was at the G all I could think of is hopefully one day I can see Melbourne be a part of this.

Yeah just had to drive down punt rd and started getting very jealous watching all the Collingwood supporters walking towards their home base to celebrate some more.

I feel dirty but I’ll learn to cope… I’ll be selling a heap of Collingwood memorabilia right through until preseason next year.

Sell them the factory seconds ( or even thirds) Joe , and make sure to rip them off when giving change - those dumb [censored] won't notice.

Do you realise last night that in 9 months time there will be a new breed of feral Collingwood fans being born.

Hopefully Fosters Flop has limited the future damage.

Just got back from shopping. Ugh the filth fans are out in force.

What really annoys me now is I can no longer look at Howe and say you ditched us & we're the ones with the premiership.

Lets hope they go backwards like west coast did. I doubt it, McCrae is to good if a coach.

If we're feeling like this with the pies imagine how it will be when the bummers finally snag one.

What’s the general opinion about the quality of the game itself? I found it lacking some big moments, and the 3rd quarter was very dull. News media talking about it being one of the greats, but I certainly don’t feel that way. It was close, but a touch devoid of some magic?

I said even though it was close I still felt like it was boring…

no massive plays, no big moments. Once game finished I was like.. oh cool… anyway… and then off to chat to people

I said this last night and will double down today.

IMO this is your anti-Collingwood bias speaking.

There were a handful of goal of the year contenders in the first quarter alone.

The first half was a great blend of high scoring but high pressure - it never felt like a defence-less shoot out.

The second half was lower scoring but still intense.

I hate Collingwood, and Nick Daicos more, and Howe possibly more again, but the game was fantastic and they are wholly deserving winners after the season they’ve had.

Yeah fair enough. I don’t doubt that Collingwood deserved the flag, and Bobby Hill was the player of not just that game, but that entire finals series.

I think my expectations had more to do with the way Brisbane usually score. They have a lot of very dynamic forwards, so I probably expected more magic from them.

One major factor in Collingwood's win, despite their overall inaccuracy, was their finishing from set shots outside 50 at crucial times.  Crisp x 2 (he did it against us too from exactly the same spot), De Goey and Sidebottom all nailed long goals - we very rarely do that.  There's ball to be marked around the 50 and we can do that but we rarely convert from there - either the long kick to the pocket for a stoppage or take the risk of a point and turnover.  Who do we have with the range and accuracy?   Petracca, Sparrow and Rivers definitely have the length.  Melksham has both but will be out - maybe McAdam can do it?  Petty and Joel Smith may be able to - not enough examples yet.  Salem probably used to be able to but seems to have lost a lot of depth.  This is a very important asset when the 50 is crowded.

Watching them celebrate at their training centre angers with frustration that this site was first offered  to the MFC 20years ago but our band aid approach with either Gutnick Or ever was the president were in survival mode and no vision saying we couldn’t afford  & yet we sit going into the 24 season with still no permanent training centre!

It's not the small forwards that the issue, it's the flawed system that Goodwin has that doesn't play to their advantages.

Goodwin wants all our small forwards to be the link up option instead of actually being there for the drop of the ball. Too many times are smalls are pressed so high up that when we win back possession through sling shot we have no one in space to kick to their advantage

I can't remember the last game where our  genuine small forwards have created goals from being front and centre of the forwards or given the space and opportunity ahead of goal.

Look at the way McRea uses Hill. In our system there is no way he gets so much space an opportunity as what he does at Collingwood.

I'm all for Watson, but not if Goody is going to run with the same flawed system that he's had the past 2 years.

Honestly the discussion on Hill is nonsense. Pure utter nonsense.

Fair play he turned in his best ever game at the best possible time. But that was his career high. Kozzie Is younger and has already had several bigger days than that, and regularly kicks more goals and has more involvements and defensive acts than Hill does.

We all dislike it when he flies unnecessarily, but let's not get lost in the moment. 2 (3?) of his goals were as simple as getting loose and receiving a hit up kick for a simple set shot. Koz also does this - not as often as he should which says more about our ball use not finding him. The one snap Hill did back on his left is a goal Kozzie has kicked many times.

The guy had a good day in a team that is statistically one of the luckiest sides to win a flag. Don't overplay it. Kozzie's output puts just about every small forward other than Charlie to shame.

I see the COLLINGWOOD 2023 PREMIERS TEAM SIGNED GUERNSEY has gone up $500 on last years offering. Lot of Centrelink money going to Official Memorabilia this year. Extra 500 being made available as well. Rip them off I say.

Collingwood were the best side all year but they were also very gettable late in the season, just that no one could get them. Many side should have but none could. We just have to live with it now.

Lucky maybe but dont discount Collingwood would have replied if the trip had been properly paid. They have a cult like belief in their system in close ones. Goody has to examine their system late and counter it. I have examined  it but think it must be to do with their system from the centre bounce. Perhaps they have a play or two they only use at the end of games when a goal or two behind. We saw it yesterday when Brissie got in front.

Not anti-Collingwood bias at all.

I didn’t really care who won. Both had a great season.

05/06 and 2010 grand final excited me as did last weeks semi and 05’s semi…

This game just didn’t haha but that’s just for me. Second Qtr was good though

I still feel like we were the best shot and it still hurts. I also feel like they scammed their way to the premiership with 7, 1 and 4 point wins. But you don’t keep winning those tight ones if you’re no good. I think their coach is superb. It’s painful!

Agree with most of that, but Collingwood beat us fair and square in the QF.

They kicked our butts when the heat was on in the first quarter to gain a 20 point qtr time lead, and then kicked the key goals in the third.

We threw away the semi final, but Collingwood were the deserved winners in the Qf.

Except for Maynard knocking Brayshaw out.

The luck I'm referring to is their statistical profile, not luck within the game which they clearly deserved to win on the day.

Statistically, they are the weakest premier since the 16 Bulldogs and I think the 94 bombers before that. Every footy model out there has been saying this. They don't rank in the top metrics anywhere near where most premiers do.

Whether it's a statistical anomaly (luck) or whether they have found 'new metrics' is open to interpretation, but 1 premiership and 2 years of close finishes is a small sample size and does little to dissuade.

Mathematically, they were lucky to win the flag. I'm not saying their players aren't good or that they didn't own the moments, which they did, very well. They have unbelievable chemistry as a unit and work harder off the ball than any other team.

I'm just saying that over the 200 year history of our game, very few premiers have played like that. People will say it's a new age or a new paradigm, but these things are rarely true.

I keep saying that, overall, psychology is THE most important factor in sport. (Especially if you’re comparing similarly accomplished players/teams)

McRae has done a brilliant job. I’ve seen some of his player addresses: he focuses on his players actually enjoying the pressure moments and owning them. We did that in 2021 - esp in finals.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
