The AFL sell the product, C7 have as much power as the AFL allows itself to sell OF itself.

It is a cop out from the AFL to just blame the broadcaster as they count their cash. Theirs is a responsibility to the game - one they have been failing more and more and since they have not had an empowered Footy boss it has all been laid bare that the facade of proper governance was just that.

Excited is an understatement for me.

We are in far better shape then last year and was interesting hearing Leigh Montagna on First crack mention something along the lines that we're the only top 4 team for all defensive indicators that are premiership credentials. If someone can correct me on this because I only heard snippets.

Beat Collingwood, week off, then hopefully that means we could potentially play Port Adelaide/GWS/St Kilda at the MCG.

Garbage.

If swans had won yesterday’s and had a home final it would be different. The AFL is worried how supporters from GWS and Swans would travel on a Thursday. Yet Sydney based Dees supporters are expected to….

It'd absolutely stupid and making things unnecessarily difficult. How did we end up with this garbage day and timeslot?

It's why they have the pre finals bye, the stuff about teams resting players was just bs

Does that mean us or Collingwood would host a Saturday prelim to play what's most likely Port who are locked in to Saturday Night semi?

Whereas the Friday night semi between Coll v Carlton would then end up meeting the Lions in a prelim at the Gabba on a Friday Night?

My understanding is the highest ranked team hosts the Friday night prelim.

If Collingwood beat us, they will host the Friday night prelim.

If we beat Collingwood, Brisbane (or Port) host the Friday night and we get the Saturday prelim.

Either we’ll be playing the Saturday prelim should we get there.

What is the rationale for Thursday night? It’s the effing finals, you are going to get blockbuster ratings, just put it on the bloody weekend. No chance for a lot of people to make it to the game.

The answer is because Channel 7 and the wider AFL media want Thursday night footy. They can’t put our game and the Carl v Syd game both on Saturday as both are at the G. They appear to have given us the Thursday to ensure the loser of our game has the extra day break into the semi.

However, that didn’t happen last year. Last year we played Friday and the Bris v Rich EF was the Thursday. Brisbane got the extra day’s break into our semi. Arguably that was because travel was involved but IMO it’s the wrong result. We should be Friday night this year.

I’m confident we’ll be the Friday semi if we lose, and then the Fri prelim. Or the Sat prelim if we beat Collingwood.

I can't go. Very disappointed. Hopefully I'll step off the plane and learn how the Dees dismantled the pies.

Time to change that flight! 😅

I'm a touch annoyed about the Thursday night but I guess it makes some sense that all other games have teams travelling and interstate travel on a weeknight would be very difficult for those fans.

We have to be happy to have a final in Melbourne when we finished 4th. Let's GO Dees!!!

Has the club sent out an email about tickets?

I thought I saw it somewhere that they had, but I can't find anything.

Yes they did. Barcodes will get sent today.

It's cos pies fans don't have to front up to work the next day.

He says what we're all thinking!

It's the way we are finishing games that is the gamechanger for me this year. Finals are about who is toughest for the longest and as opposed to last year when we were hobbling off the field our guys look like they could play another game then and there.

In regards to the defensive indicators, there have been times and yesterday in particular where we've conceded a few marks inside 50 and there is a threat that things could go to bits but more often that not that defensive unit has managed to sort themselves out and get back to killing the danger and relieving the pressure by hitting a target. If they give up a goal, no problem, ithey put it  behind them and it's about the next contest.

It would be almost perfect if we had Petty out there and losing Melksham is a bummer but nothing goes perfect for anyone in a premiership campaign. We will back our selection and whoever comes in to do the job. Perfection is not required, doing your role is.

Like Big Kev, I'm excited!

I guess the AFL don't really care about kids and families attending. I've got 3 who are all under 12 and love going to the footy. Unless i give them a day off school in Friday there is no way they will be able to go.

Even watching the full game on tv on a Thursday night is problematic for those with younger kids

Just lucky we didn’t cop a concussion today. You’d be frothing at the mouth if we lost Trac to one and had 11 days to play the Pies.

I find it's generally better to save my froth for things that actually happen.

The two biggest beneficiaries of dodgy goal umpiring decisions face off in an elimination final. Surely this game has to be decided by a goal review.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
