I remember the good old days fondly when H&A rounds ended and this was my favourite thread

I don't think Gold Coast are getting enough advantages 🙄

Has a team ever won the flag and had the no 1 pick? Would be a great trick if we could pull it off. The other clubs will be spewing

Closest I can think of is Sydney winning the flag then recruiting Buddy.

Another 5 years or so of top 4 finishes and i might look back to that time wistfully.

Not yet but.

Sydney came runner up in 2014 and got Isaac Heeney for a bargain at pick 18 being a part of their academy. Was rated a top 5 pick.

Pretty sure there was a mini outcry after that so the afl changed the rules meaning clubs then had to match bids for their academy players. This was the introduction of the new draft points system rather than just clubs using their next selection.

The following year we bid on Mills at #3. Thank god they matched.

WC will live trade the number 1 pick to us on draft night.

This thread will get a few more pages yet.

Get ready for the Demon Harley — it’s coming! Would have to be a monumental change of beliefs & player ratings from now to October for it to fall over.

Get excited!!! This kid is sheer dynamite & as for ceiling, his is Gar superior to ANY of this or last years draft choices, don’t even begin to argue about it, just ask JT.

Personally, I’d of been wrapped with Watson & Sanders but Harley could be anything.

Don't think you have the bait right.

Yeah a new means of deathride transportation.

Is anybody going to summon @Chook in Perth on any murmurings over this potential pick trade - He had the good mail in the past!

Edit: I consider myself a nobody!

You can see how compromised this draft could potentially be.

Just a note on your order, GC have pick 4 (pick 6 in your mock) and will presumably trade it out... so there will be another selection between Hawks and Melbourne with the GC Read bid notwithstanding. Might be us, might be another team. If your general order stays then we miss out on Duursma and we're looking at prospects from Caddy onwards.

Yes GC do have pick 4, but will be gobbled up with their first academy member at pick 2, so they will trade it out for currency (our proposal will be 15, 24, 34 and our FF1, possibly then offer 4 and 5 to WC for 1), we may be the club who bid and get their pick 4, but who knows, I'll still take any 2 of Watson, Duursma, Caddy or O'Sullivan. Will be interesting off season. Its all navel gazing at the moment, Cheers

Pick 4 and 5 for pick is overs imo. If we offer 4 and 5 (on the assumption, we are successful in obtaining from GC) you would be expecting something back from GC in addition to pick 1.

so 5, 15, 24 , 34 AND a future 1st ( say 15) fr pick Harley. 3x 1st  rounders and 2x 2nd. that’s a LOT of capital.

The Eagles and North upending tanking theory the last 2 weeks. Maybe clubs aren't as fixated on high picks as we think they are.

Doesn't matter how good the talent is if the team doesn't know how to win, I also Imagine WC want Curtain so don't care and Nth may be eyeing the Sanders and Mckercher duo.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
