Why would someone resigning get paid for the year? I’d imagine he has a heap of leave entitlements that it doesn’t matter but I’m not sure Richmond should pay a full 4 months that he won’t work.

The big question is will Richmond seek trade compensation if/when he signs a new deal before his Richmond contract expires. I think they could and they should.

They're not going to play hardball with such a successful coach (after being a such a basket-case)

3 flags speaks for itself so I'd be surprised if he doesn't get paid out for the rest of the year

Handshake agreement is my take

The Tigers probably knew they needed a fresh voice with fresh ideas

So an ideal parting off the ways.  Hardwick looked rather pleased with the finish as well

CAC got rid of Millar and Wallace, employed Dimma and Blair Hartley and the rest is history.

He was part of their success.

As for passing on Eddie, so did every other club as Eddie was taken as a rookie.  JT passed on McKay and Curnow for Weideman so I suppose you'll never value him.😀

Well ok I will concede he was a small part of the Tigers success but doesnt need front page billing. Everyone passed on Eddie because he had OP, and not possibly because they didnt rate him.  Passing on Curnow was a certainty coz he told everyone he wanted to get to Carlton.  McKay, I dont know.  The really interesting thing about the Weid selection is that (with hindsight) it broke our golden rule of picking a competitive beast.  Of course I value JT, how could JonTee not.  But the question you might want to consider over tonights sherry is Has JT gone off the boil? 😉

As for supply & demand

If Hardwick is the supplied commodity, there will be a high demand

And with a sacked coach now only receiving 6 months severance, an even bigger demand is prevalent

In effect, it's possible (but not probable) that Hardwick could end up at Essendon

By the way, that practice of not having to pay out a full contract for a sacked coach is often standard practice in sports overseas ... KPI related

For instance, David Moyes was given a 6 year contract with Man Utd a few years ago but after only one year was sacked* and only given a one year payout ... mind you, it was in the vicinity of $6Million for that one year so go figure

*Missing a Champions League spot was a KPI apparently

You're saying it's possible that Hardwick could end up at Essendon? If that's the case, surely possible he could end up at any other club, ours included.

I mentioned Essendon because he played there previously

You know, favourite son and all that

But landing there is not probable unless the Bombers cut short Scott's contract

Remembering that 6 months severance is all clubs are up for these days if they dispense with a coach

And with that short payout we might start to see more contracts cut short if KPI's aren't met

People are the same all over so sacking coaches could become more prevalent in the AFL like it is overseas

Whether we like that or not is often irrelevant

Nope,

Say our season came to a treacle, finish 13-10, lose the first final and bow out.

Would you ask the question?

Are we that gutsy?

It’s not even gutsy. We fluked a flag and have since looked like sh*t. Hardwick coached lesser talent to multiple flags. If he is available and wants the gig we’d be remiss to not ask the question. We’re a bottom 8 side in 2023.

Won the flag.
Won the first 10 games the following season.
Currently fourth on the ladder.
So dramatic!

I would, but then again I’ve never truly warmed to Goodwin.
I think Goodwin has potential to be a much better coach but he is now behind on how the game needs to be played and has not rectified any of it.
But in saying that I’m sure DIMMA probably has flaws like that too, I’m just not seeing them cos the grass is always greener on the other side 😂

Hardly..

We'd more likely extend Goody's contract instead......

i now know why you wouldnt want to put your face to your name. "dingaling"

The first rule of demonland.

Anything football related story represents evidence goody is a rubbish coach.

Has Hardwick been seen checking out Perth realestate these days?

Hardwick to the Suns would seem a good fit. Alot of untapped talent will appeal to the former Essendon sniper.

You have serious issues, dude

Just wow

Knew he had the job months ago IMO. Very odd how he wanted a break yet signed back on before the current H&A season has even ended.....

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

  • VOTES: Richmond

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
