Lachie Hunter an absolute specialist at it, haven't seen him f one up yet.

Larising has to be one of the best words in the english language. I quite like the grubber handball.

A number of Doggies used this to aplomb in their 2016 premiership year.  Probably more about execution.  Was ANB also using it tonight?  Sparrow?

The only bad thing about them is the stupid name they've been given by the commentators.

I don't think the bouncing handballs actually go under the ground.

Right. Otherwise, the stat for gathering an “underground handball” would be an “underground ball get”.

I don’t mind it from the wingers when it’s boundary side. Seems like a low risk attempt at keeping the ball moving.

At least we can’t be accused of not trying to evolve with the game. Sometimes it’s hard to notice in game, when I’m too busy abusing the umpires and fretting about the scoreboard. Credit to the coaching department for trying new things.

I really like the bounce handball. And Hunter is really good at it.

When the opposition is closing down the ball carrier, he can’t handball through him. So it’s over, under or around. Over is very risky because in getting it high enough, it takes so long to come back down that the recipient will get crunched. We used to call them “hospital handballs”, remember? Going around the opponent is often hampered by the boundary line on one side and other closing opponents on the other.

Vive le handball de rebond.

(Hey, @Demonstone I found the new name.)

'My boy' JMcV, I think?

I like 'em. Get to the receiver quickly, and with 'easily' created end-over-end bounce they seem relatively easy to gather.

Other thing is if you throw afoot at it skiing the boundary you have a high percentage to kick out on the full.

Think again DS

Doc's explanation of time travel in "Back to the Future" tells us that the "underground" handball is not only plausible but may well transcend time and stop the game for a nano second,  thereby confusing oncoming opponent and providing receiver with more time to assess and gather...

Ask Brian dc!

Great when they work, no so when they don’t. Handy way of avoiding extreme pressure. Still room for more cohesive tapping of the ball on especially up forward.

Hunter’s smarts and bag of tricks is handy but it’s also a reflection that he can’t break the lines at all any more. Could only find room for 6 kicks last night and most weren’t effective.

He never broke the lines, was always an accumulator on connection and smart play-maker. Still is. Most of those 6 kicks last night WERE effective. And the sun still rises in the east.

Hunter is an exclusive specialist - the effective vibe hasn't really reached the others yet. Whereas Clarrie is the dive-handball specialist off the carpet and that one completes him as a very hungry ball-magnet in the thick of things.
