Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Which former player? Or do you know his mum’s name?

edit: there’s probs a bunch of people related to players or former players in our cheer squad. One of the first DA members I became close friends with happens to be Steele Sidebottom’s cousin. I only discovered this a week ago despite knowing his surname (which is the same).

Need to get a wriggle on, what!

I don’t know what’s in the water down at Moorabbin, but I’ll have some, please!

16 wins gets top 4. 15 wins gets top 4 about half the time. So we can only lose 4, maybe 5 more games.

Extra game this year. Most likely 16 wins will be needed but it is an even 12 teams

Hang on, there!

A good win today will have us 3rd on the ladder at the end of the round, with a good % lead and our fixture opening up.

Even if we lose today, the next month or so will give us a good chance for a top four position at EOS especially as most teams are like a yo-yo: WLWLWL.  Only a few have won more than 2 in a row.

There is a very good chance we will be 10:3 at the bye - about the same as last year.

The danger in this game is if Dusty decides to put in one of his Big Game performances.

But, I reckon we will win today.🙃

It’s a very even year; we are not the team of the 2021 finals. Geelong is weaker, Syd is immature and injured, the Lions are bullies in the front half, Carlton are all stars, no shine. Tigers are made of paper, Saints are well organised but young and starless, Essendon are putting in effort but have NQRs all over, WB are as good and as bad as they have been the last 6 years, the Adelaide teams are wilful but can lost their way at times, Collingwood are great when a team they play doesn’t commit as much as they commit, and then there is Freo, GWS, GC, and the pub teams.

Peak at the right times, win enough games to be top 4 and get into a prelim. Those are my expectations.

My hopes are higher but those are my expectations.

I agree with this.
We aren’t the team we were in 2021 and I doubt we will ever repeat the perfect performance that was 2021. It’s nearly impossible.
However unlike in 2021, the competition isn’t nearly as strong and is much more wide open. If we peak at the right time and have luck with injuries, we absolutely can win it.

Hang on a minute; who says we aren't the team we were in 2021. If anything on paper we are stronger. Our only relative deficiency since then is that our two main key forwards are in unreliable form, and that seems less concerning when you remember we are the highest scoring team in the competition this season.

2021 came together at just the right moment and there's no denying something magic happened, but we're going along just fine to give that magic another chance.

Just incase LH isn't around to share, here's todays mood over on the Tigers Big Footy board...

 =======================================================

"Petracca feature article on AFL website this morning"

·         "And mid week an article about Gawn.  Tumbleweeds finding Richmond stuff on the boy's club site"

"Will be lucky to score 60 points"

"We are a sneaky chance to win this one methinks"

·         "No chance.

"Given they lost to Essendon who were without their number 1 forward I don't think they are playing as well as people think. Leaving at Brown and McDonald seems they are confident with Gawn/Grundy playing key forward most of the night and them going smaller actually helps our undermanned defence out at the moment.

Still think we will get smashed in the midfield so weight of numbers probably wins it for them"

"Nothing more obvious than Gawn playing majority forward in his first game back against our depleted tall stocks"

"First and foremost, I just want us to look like a legit AFL standard footy team tonight.
Anything more is just a bonus."

"Only 200 odd posts in the thread suggests we are all expecting a loss, a heavy one at that!
Lets hope the boys fire up for this one and surprise us all!"

"Normally glass half full, but geez big task tonight. Normally against Martin playing 90% forward, but probably stretches their defence if he clunks a few. Need to break even or get on top in the midfield to be any hope"

"Can we please just beat these bastards?"

·         "We’d have to be really on for that to happen. Our best players would have to play great games and our intensity would have to be at its best for 4 quarters"

·          "Yep, ever since i can remember (1960s onwards) i have had a special dislike for Rabblebourne and their stuck-up sticky-beak bastard supporters"

"Our VFL side would've been longer odds to beat Casey yesterday so anything can happen. We're due, that's for sure."

"Played at our best in the dry this year. Considering the current conditions, we might put together more than 1 good quarter.  Pinched a good win over Dee's in the 2s who were undefeated, hopefully we're in for a good one tonight."

"Just be competitive for as long as possible. That's all we ask."

"Anyone know if Gawn and Oliver are definite starters?"

·         "Dees fans seems to be fairly pessimistic about Gawn. Oliver trained with the main group yesterday so should be right."

"Have a look at who's bloody umpiring. The friggen All Star anti Richmond line up"

2021 wasn’t as perfect as some remember. We struggled for a large chunk of the season. Lost to some poor sides. After the loss to gws at the g I thought we were done that year. Our last two months built beautifully but there were many hiccups. We can get back to that. There are some things we are clearly working on that may click along the way.

We won finals by a combined total of nearly 200 points. It was the perfect season.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
